Tips for Using This Packet

The comprehension questions are intended to provide a quick check of literal comprehen-

sion following a chapter or a few chapters. They may be presented orally or in print.

The comprehension questions should not be used as an end-of-book test. Many questions

are context-specific to the chapter and will not make sense or will be confusing if used only

at the end of the book. They are intended to be used after a one-day reading assignment of

one to three chapters.

Discussion questions may be used in whole-group or in small-group settings. Many of these

questions require inference, analysis, prediction, and problem-solving.

Part 1 Vocabulary words come from the first half of the book, and Part 2 from the second

half.
