Climate confusion among US teachers
• Most address global warming, but only 1-2 hours per course
• 30% of those surveyed do not attribute global warming to humans
• Less than 50% have had instruction in climate science themselves
(Eric Plutzer et al., 2016)
Climate change games as tools for education and engagement
• Fun: naturally motivating• Engrossing: immersive, learn by doing,
emotional experiences• Visioning of the future• Winner’s mentality (epic win!)• Evidence for learning• Collaborative learning
(Wu and Lee, 2015)
• Few educational climate change games are place-based
games (easy to relate to your local community)
• Limited instructional resources for teachers on climate
change using games
• Little guidance on how to embed or mainstream climate
change games into curricula and schools/districts

Questions/Points to Consider
• Structure and components of the teacher’s toolkit
• Is it better to have lesson plans built around the game or have lessons to follow up on the teachable moments?
• How can the toolkit help make the game more accessible and feasible for teachers to use?
• Situating Future Delta within the curriculum
