Using Diigo to Create Bookmarking Groups and Share Favorite Websites

Why Use Diigo?

• Are you tired of your Browser’s ability to simply create bookmarks of your favorite websites?

• Don’t you wish you could share these sites with others on the Internet?

• With a website called Diigo.com, now you can!

Why Use Diigo?

• As college students, faculty, and staff often are required to gather information on the web, this process can be difficult if there is nowhere to organize and share websites

• Diigo.com can facilitate this process much more efficiently than traditional applications because it offers simple and easy tools that allow users to create, share, and invite friends to view bookmarks of websites of their choosing.

• Diigo.com will save time by grouping websites together. It will also inform others of fun, creative, and worthwhile websites that may be helpful.

Goals

• For the students, faculty, and staff in the College of Education to learn how to effectively use Diigo.com to:

• Create social bookmarking groups

• Invite friends to this group • Share websites of their choosing by adding bookmarks to the group

Objectives After this lesson, students, faculty, and staff in the College of Education will be able

to…

1) Access the Diigo website.

2) Create an account on the Diigo website

3) Login into the Diigo website

4) Use the information presented to create a social bookmarking group using Diigo

5) Use the information presented to invite a friend to the social bookmarking group on Diigo.com

6) Use the information presented to add a bookmark to the group using Diigo

Teach Me How to Diigo!

Now that you are familiar with the goals and objectives of this lesson, we will now begin the process of accessing

Diigo and learning how to bookmark, invite friends, and create groups on this website!

Accessing Diigo

Open your default Internet browser by clicking on the icon on your desktop or control panel

I am operating from a Mac, so I like to use Safari

Accessing Diigo

In the address bar, type in www.diigo.com

Getting Started With Diigo

Once you have accessed the Diigo website, click on the Join Diigo option in the top right corner of the page

Creating a Diigo Account

Once you have accessed the page to create an account, type in the necessary fields to join Diigo

Sign In to Diigo

Once you have created an account, type in your username or e-mail, and password then click sign in

Create a Group in Diigo Once you have singed into your account, you will see this page

blue tool bar

Once you have reached the groups page, click on the create group icon in the top right corner

Once you have reached the create groups page, enter the information in the fields to create your group

Invite Friends Once you have created your group by clicking at the bottom of the

page, a new window will appear that allows you to invite others to Diigo:

Invite Friends Begin by typing in either your friends’ names, e-mail addresses, or choose from the

blue links to import addresses from other locations. Next click invite so your friends can join Diigo and view your group!

Add Bookmarks After you invite your friends and welcome them to Diigo, this window will appear.

You will then click the Bookmark icon to add a bookmark.

Add Bookmarks After you click the bookmark icon, you will then type in the URL of the website, title of

the website, any comments you wish to make, and any tags you wish to place in the bookmark. Then click Post to add your bookmark!

Add Bookmarks After you click the post button, your bookmarks will be added to your group, where

you can share them with others. Users will be able to find them, depending on the privacy settings of your group. You can also see how many people viewed your

bookmarks, and others can comment on your bookmarks.

• Create a group called “My Favorite Websites”
