Cerro Gordo County Farm Bureau Vice President Joe McGrath recently presented the Farman family with their prize package.
IFBF PRESENTS FARMAN FAMILY WITH YETI COOLER AND $200 MEAT PACKAGE
CERRO GORDO COUNTY FARM BUREAU MET SEPT. 10 Prior to the start of the Septem-
ber board meeting, Shannon Latham spoke with the board briefly about her campaign. Latham is running for Iowa House District 54 now that Speak-er Linda Upmeyer is not seeking re-election. Latham voiced her sup-port for Iowa agriculture to the board, assuring them she would protect ag interests if elected into office.
The meeting was called to order on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7:18 p.m. by President Eric Arthur. It was moved, seconded and passed to waive the reading of the previous meeting’s minutes. Treasurer Jess Lutz gave the treasurer’s report. It was moved and seconded to approve the report as read. Motion passed. No state board update was given. Old business was discussed next and included decid-ing on a new camera system for the office that was discussed last month. It was moved, seconded and approved to go with Frein Audio and Technolo-gy to install a two-camera system at the office. New business was then discussed. Arthur asked the board to inform office administrator Sarah Tweeten of any nominations they may have for the Ag Leader Institute pro-gram for 2021.
A milking simulator was also dis-
cussed. OAs from other counties expressed interest in pooling funds together to purchase a milking sim-ulator cow to utilized at their ag fairs and county fairs. While in discussion, it was mentioned that the North Iowa Fair owns a very similar milking sim-ulator. Tweeten is to follow up with the other county OAs and the Fair Board staff to see if any sort of collaboration can take place. The board reviewed KISS Country’s sponsorship proposal to sponsor Harvest Snack Sacks this year instead of the Cab Cam like they have in the past. It was decided to pass on the opportunity this year.
Regional Manager Trae Hestness reviewed with the board a change in the billing of Directors & Officers In-surance. Over the past several years, IFBF has not requested reimburse-ment for the insurance premium paid on behalf of the counties for Direc-tors & Officers Insurance. This is now changing and should be budgeted for in future years.
North Central Iowa Ag in the Class-room would like some financial as-sistance to purchase logoed water bottles for local schools that they serve. It was motioned, seconded and approved to contribute to this project.
Reports were given next, which in-
cluded an update from Hestness on the Summer Policy Conference. He will send Tweeten the first draft of resolutions to share with the rest of the board.
Hestness also gave a report on the President’s Conference. It includ-ed goal setting and planning for the County Investment Fund as it contin-ues to meet milestones ahead of pre-dictions.
Jim Barkema gave an update on the North Iowa Events Center. He feels they are finally on the upswing from COVID-related issues. Week-ends are quickly booking up and he has found many people expressing interest in renting the arena.
No report on DOT/drainage issues was given.
The legislative and media contact lists were passed around as well as conflict of interest forms.
Hestness gave the regional man-ager update. He reported that the threshold for the County Investment Fund was met and that the voting delegates approved increased funds for all the counties. He also noted that the Young Farmer Conference was moved downtown and has been lim-ited to 400 people, so those who are interested in going should let Tweeten
know. No daycare will be provided at this 2021 event. It was moved and sec-onded to adjourn the meeting at 8:08 p.m. Motion carried.
On Friday, Sept. 11, Cerro Gordo County Farm Bureau Vice President Joe McGrath presented Bonnie and Gary Farman with a Yeti cooler and a $200 meat package from Fareway at their acreage just north of Ventura. The Farmans have been Farm Bu-reau members since 2016.
The Ag-Mazing Challenge was a fun, interactive game that was easy
to play. Participants completed var-ious missions released each week of the contest to score points while exploring and learning more about agriculture. Those earning 10,000 points were entered in a drawing to win one of 20 $500 Visa gift cards. Plus, the fi rst 250 players to reach 10,000 points won an exclusive 2020 “Missing Corndog” T-shirt.
