TCS Selection Guidelines
Firstly, TCS has several levels of tests/interview in their selection procedure.
1. Aptitude test (generally online test) consisting of three sections, verbal abilities,
quantitive abilities and logical reasoning abilities. In verbal, u r asked antonyms of
several words in english language, similar but less exhaustive than GRE verbal section.Quantitive consists of class X level mathematical skill testing problems. loogical
reasoning will ask you yes/no/can't say type qstns based on a paragraph. u will have to
read through the paragraph fast but efficiently understanding only the main pith of thewritten material. regading the words, they ask the same words over and over again. So,
memorise the word meanings from all the papers that i have put up. U will surely get all
of them common. In case, u have given GRE, don't bother abt this section at all. All
words are common. Each section is time limited. I have forgotten the exact time division. So u can not afford to waste too much time on any one section.
2. Psychometry: When u clear the above three section, u will be allowed to appear for
psychometry. Its 150 qstns to be answered in 30 min. Always remember to givePOSITIVE and CONSISTENT answers since the same qstn repeats with a different
sentense construction sometimes later. Try to hide ve traits in ur character as like beingimpatient, getting bored easily, distracted easily, feeling uneasy in a gathering of many
people, unsocial and over talkative nature, etc. They ask qstns like whether u wld make
frndship with a person of opposite sex, feel insomnia without reason, consistently brood
over a mistake u did in the past, the type of person u r, etc etc. what u r actually is notimportant, what qualities wld make ur employers happy is important.
3. After u clear psycho, is ur technical interview. Qstns come mainly from the projects, experiences u have gathered. They check ur resume and the blue form and ask qstns from
there. Even sometimes they test ur logical ablities by asking puzzles like the type they askat Infy. get through with the project works and stuff and be smart and reply confidently.
4. Clearing technical inter will make u elligible for HR interview which is also the final
stage. Qstns are various types, including ur background, ur hobbies, etcx etc. They areknown to harrass people with their hobbies. so, whatever hobbies u write, plzz be through
with it and prepare so that u can answer qstns from ur hobbies. Like if u say singing, plzz
get through with ur scale and technical things related to singing etc. If u like reading, plzz
be prepared to name a few novels and face qstns on those novels. Also, they might try toembarras u by asking qstns of personal and slightly indecent nature like abt ur boyfriend,
ur affairs(if any) etc. Stay calm and answer them with a smiling face. Keep eye contact.
Don't get provoked by any means.Thats abt all. They take a week or so to announce results. So have patience and hope for
the best.

I couldnt remember others, but mostly from Barrons GRE.
Then there are six question in which u should fill the appropriate sentence in a
passage.
AFTER THAT READ THE PASSAGE AND ANSWER THE QUESTION. There
will be five passages n five questions.
Aptitude(at least 30 Q):
Go through any previous TCS paper. Mostly questions had the same pattern like:
1.Base conversion2.Time n work
3.Plane travels through some latitude
4.Binary values of A,B and C is given, determine the decimal form of (A union B
intersection C)5.A file transfer question from any bucket
6.Largest prime no. stored in 7-bit processor
7.A question on cable laying through river.8.A question on temperature equation.
9. A question on series.
10. A question on the shape( values of x and y are given, which curve suit best?)11. A question on standard deviation?
12.how many vertices, edges n faces r there in a cube?
13. what is the value of m(373,7)+R(6.8)-T(3.4)+R(3.4)14. which one will be the exact power of 2.
15. three questions on select odd one out?
16. one question like find the value of G(3)+G(4).
{G(0) n G(1) is given n G(n)=G(n-1)+g(n-2)}17. one question coding-decoding.
There was five questions on Vein diagram n three questions on bar graphs.
So just go through the previous TCS papers, so be prepare with them.
Critical Reasoning:
There are three sections(passages) and at least three questions will be asked from those
passages.its a critical reasoning portion, not a comprehension, ok.
Passages are from Barrons GRE. In my paper two of three r frm model test paper one
given in Barron.

6.never waste the time to read the comprehension passages, do it in the last, if there ismanual test ( as in my case), but in online test u hav to do all the questions section-wise.
Technical Interview: I was very lucky in this round, bcoz they didnt asked any
question frm my project, but be prepare with ur projects, bcoz other guys were
encountered with project related questions.
My technical interview was very easy. Actually the guys from TCS were very friendly. They asked very basic questions from electronics.
My interview started with simple introduction. After that they asked where do u stay in Kolkata, bcoz I m frm noida.
Then why TCS?
What do u know abt TCS?
Then they slightly came towards technical interview:What is your favourite subjects?
I told Computer networks n Image processing.
Then they asked the questions on computer networks like OSI model, its layers nworking of the session layer.
Then they asked to draw the V-I characteristics of P-N junction and its description.
What is break during the Avlanche Breakdown? What is multiplexer n where u can used it?
I replied that multiplexer can be used in satellite comm..
They asked how?I replied.
Then they asked abt the need of modulation?
I couldnt reply.
What is the noise n what u can do to reduce the noise?
After this they turned towards the software. They asked me abt the array, two-
dimensional array and then asked me to write a program of factorial?
HR interview: I couldnt make me into this round, but may be u will.
Be prepare with some basic question like ur introduction, why TCS, what do u know abt
TCS?
Be careful abt ur hobbies, strengths n weaknesses.

I m frm ECE, so they asked y do u want to switch-over on software? Why not hardware?
What is the guarantee that u will not switches from s/w to h/w again after 2-3 years?
Where do u want to reach after 3 yrs? What type of work-environment u r looking?
Any question?I asked abt the training period at TCS n abt the work allocation system in TCS?
Dont be nervous. Just try to do ur best. Left all the things in the hand of almighty. Maybe ur luck will with u.

PSYCHOMETRY GROUPING
I have grouped the psychometric questions numbering 150. as it is not
possible for me to write each question I am indicating only the
numbers. Its up to u to correspond to the questions
8/9/2019 TCS Selection Guidelines
17/28
At the outset I would like to clearly state that this version has no
guarantee to be the correct version. Actually some 30/150 questionsfall in to many groups and the line differentiating them is very
thin. I have tried my best to group them.
Talking about the groups- they are 11 in number. As I have mentioned-
this is not the only correct version- but this can be one. So if u
feel u can group them more finer u can subdivide them in to many more.
I would advise u strictly to go through the whole set of groups and
define urselves- the key to psychometric test is to define who u are
and then start looking in to deeply the questions.
Each group represents a character or personality- u will decide which
of the following attributes u would like to include in ur personality.
GROUP 1 LEADERSHIP QUALITIES
2 3 28 39 53 73 103 128
GROUP 2 SOCIABLE NATURE
4 9 13 14 24 29 44 49 54 59 64 70 74 79 88 89 109

GROUP 3 BALANCED PSYCHE people who are balanced- not wavery in their
moods etc.. etc

104(34) 108 113 118(34) 129 133 149
read the following before proceeding
1. the last group is bigger and within the group itself a small
subgrouping is done- the no. in the bracket is the parent question to
which the no outside the bracket belongs to- hope u understand2. strictly- this may not be 100 % right as many questions look
very similar. So go thru and make alterations if u feel so.
3. in each groups there r 2 kinds of questions- if u say yes tosome and no to others u will land up at the same definition. So its
ur common sense to understand the affirmative and negative tones of
each question and answer accordingly- u shld know when to answer no
and yes for each question in the same group-4. some groups itself are opposite to each other and can be
grouped together- but I have separated them on the basis of finer
inferences eg:- serious persons cant be easy going type. if u say noto any question on serious group question u will land as an easygoing
personality and vice versa- so they can be put under a single group-
but some finer points prevent from doing soALL THE BEST

Verbal section:34-35 questions
There are three sections..
Verbal Ability (English skills) 32 questions
Aptitude 34 questions
Logical Reasoning 12 questions
In the verbal ability section the area where you can score the most is Antonyms &
Synonyms which consists of 10 questions each. There are two paragraphs , one dealingwith Fill in the blanks with appropriate sentences & the other is a simple one where
one has to read it and answer the questions. Take my word, the former is a tougher one so
after the Antonyms & Synonyms try to answer the reading comprehension part.
The Aptitude section is very easy . I say so because you can prepare for it in
advance for the sole reason that these aptitude questions never change. So whatever youfind in the internet is the ultimate aptitude question paper. One can easily do at least 20
questions correctly , but as a precaution try doing at least 26-28 questions correctlybecause you never know when & where competition is going to pinch you. Believe me
you can do it , just be cool .
The logical reasoning part has the least marks ( 12 marks ) but it is the most
determining one. Logic can never be created the night before the exam , but it can besharpened by doing various exercises . There are four paragraphs & each paragraph
consists of three questions. Even if you are very exasperated in the examination hall you
have to answer 9 questions ( 3 paragraphs ) correctly . Barons GRE guide & CATreasoning can act as eclectic sources as far as the logical reasoning part is concerned .
N.B : Just after answering the Antonyms & Synonyms try to solve the logical reasoningpart. Why ? The reason is fresh brain has greater efficiency in comparison to a tired one.So when the food is as rich as the Logical Reasoning you need a digestive body as a fresh
brain . This logic proved very useful for me and I expect that it will not prove to be futile
for your case.
Do not be overconfident after solving the above passage . It is the simplest one .It was a juicy full toss , two bouncers are still to come & believe it or not the last logical
reasoning paragraph of Set G is really tough . I solved it successfully , you can do it too
so be confident . My last advice Solve the logical reasoning when your brain is fresh ,
( on-liners are bit unlucky ) . Practice BARONS GRE GUIDE .
So Friends , BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL FOR YOUR UPCOMING T.C.S FORAYS
AND I HEARTILY WISH THAT YOU ALL COME OUT SUCCESSFUL . I could notgive the details of T.C.S Technical & HR interview but u can consult me relating any
type of problems and mail me at :
[email protected] . I am awaiting my T.C.S results .
