I am still searching for 9 more women to share their untold testimony in TCP Magazine’s “You Don’t Know My Story”. Do you know someone who has triumphed against the odds and haven’t used their struggle as an excuse; someone whose life changed in an instant for the worst, but they triumphed; someone who has forgiven the unimaginable; or someone who doesn’t look like what they have been through? If this is you or someone you know, pitch your written story to [email protected].

Pastor Shirley CaesarCrowned The Queen of Gospel

Pastor Caesar or Shirley Caesar? Both come in small packages with a big punch. Shirley Caesar is the Pas-

tor of Mt. Calvary Word of Faith Church in Raleigh, NC that serves as a place of worship and a tourist attraction

for travelers visiting the area. A place where they can feel at home away from home. Pamela J.P. Martin held her PUSH Global Ministries Conference in Raleigh last year

and visited Mt. Calvary for Sunday service. She couldn’t believe Pastor Caesar was so touchable and vows to come

back this year. While many high celebrity gospel artists and Pastors reach stardom and are surrounded by their security, Shirley Caesar walks freely. When you have won 11 Gram-

mys, 13 Stellars and 18 Dove Awards, recorded over 30 al-bums and reached a comfortable age, you have enough au-thority to speak and demand order and respect without drama.

Such is the case of this mentor, whether it’s Whitney Houston or someone she runs into at her favorite eating spot, she treats

them all the same.

You would think with all of the accolades that maybe it would be time to retire at music, stop the grueling travel schedule and spend more time at home with the Bishop. But that would require her many fans and promoters to cease demanding her for personal ap-pearances and decrease their insatiable appetite for her music. After

six decades in the industry, not even Shirley Caesar has finished re-inventing herself. She does traditional, contemporary, quartet and

even rap. Currently in the studio with Light Records, her next recording will include some praise and worship and country, evidencing her popularity with all ages, denominations and cultures. Who else would be worthy of such an honor as Pastor Shirley Caesar.

Pastor Caesar has my utmost respect. I grew up listening to her music with my Mom and singing “No Coward Soldier” with my cousin, Annie Mae. Her music has molded my life. Now I can give back three-fold “See Editorial”. Sunday, April 29 marks the crowning of Shirley Caesar as the new Queen of Gospel. Such honor follows in the steps of the late Mahalia Jackson and Albertina Walker. This event is sponsored by Dr. Mildred Summerville and The Mt. Calvary Diamond Club. A gospel celebra-tion with groups from across the country will be held at 4 p.m. at Mt. Calvary, 3100 Sanderford Road, Raleigh, NC 27610.

Paneh Mime Ministry

Timothy and Chandra Midgette are Pastors of Kingdom Building Christian Center in Durham, NC, Founders of Paneh Mime Ministries and Overseers of the Mime Ministries for Full Gospel

Fellowship. Their ministry has blossomed into the annual Desperate For Him Mega Mime Conference with registration exceeding 1,000 from 30 states and 6 countries.

Total attendance last year was over 4,000 people. This Conference makes a big impact on the music industry through their song selections. The songs and

routines are perfected and replayed continuously throughout this power-ful network of mimers. Paneh Mime’s future includes establishing

regional conferences over the next year which will lead up to the International Conference. This year’s Conference is held

April 26-29 at Cathedral of His Glory, 4501 Lake Jea-nette Road, Greensboro, NC 27455. Visit online

John K. Thorpe

Known to some as “Big John” this gentle giant has a smooth golden voice who feels most comfort-able in the Quartet setting. After spending his earlier years in upstate New York, John returns home to further his musical career with family. This month marked the 13th Anniversary for The Thorpe Family. The celebration includes the release of John Thorpe and The Thorpe Family Live with Dr. Bobby Jones “Child of God”. Another release is scheduled for the Summer. You may find John in his jumpsuit at his garage where he is a certified Ford repairman or in his white Sunday suit. Either way he’s the same gentle giant. Visit CD Baby, Facebook or YouTube.

Andrea Helms

Sunday’s Best Season IV Runner Up, Andrea Helms spent some time with us while she was in town for The Word Network taping and The Gathering of the Generals Conference.

Every aspect of what you saw on the show of her genuine spirit was visible. She shared her Sunday’s Best experience and how she never expected to be in the winner’s circle

with all of the other incredible talent. She just stayed true to who she was, enjoyed the experience and left it in God’s hand. Andrea along with the winner, Amber Bullock, are

on the Music World Gospel Label and are promoting their respective albums which consists of music that they sang during the competition. The CD allows you

to relive those moments on stage as you saw the First Lady blossom from the talented Texan to the Spiritual Diva experiencing the wardrobe transi-tion of television. Seven songs are included on the CD including “Change”, “Yesterday”, “Because of Who You Are”, “ I Love The Lord”, “Encourage Yourself”, “The Heavens Are Telling” and “Moving Forward”.

My favorite “Changed” is also Andrea’s testimony. The doctor’s said that she would never walk or talk when her Mom was pregnant. They didn’t realize

the power of prayer and the prayer warrior who was carrying this child. An-drea was born a healthy baby girl against all odds. Fast forward to the birth

of Andrea’s only child reveals her bout with severe postpartum depression with suicidal tendencies. The first year of his life was a blur but she still led worship

at her church. On this Friday night when I’m visiting with Andrea, she is manning her product table and shares her son’s first prom picture just emailed to her -- a night she won’t experience as well as many more due to her new fame. She is also keeping track of the storm warnings for the Dallas area. She knows he’s safe with Dad but she also misses her husband/pastor/covering who always looks out for her best interest. This PK from Denton, Texas is not only a First Lady but she

was also Minister of Music at their church until her travel schedule demanded she give up the position. Andrea loves family, loves

her church family, her Music World family but most of all loves God.

Pastor Nell Smith Spells

Nell began singing and preaching at the age of three and three years later ran her first revival. Her mother died when she was young blessing her on her death bed to carry on and pastor the Miracle Center, renamed Living Waters Christian Church in 2005, where she has been pastoring for the past 15 years. Nell travels from state to state with her healing and deliverance ministry, The Living Word Crusade. With appear-ances on TBN, The Word Network, Bobby Jones and Bishop T. D. Jakes the mantel that has been passed continues to move forward. I met Nell when she was 17 years old opening for the Canton Spirituals. She was dubbed as “Little Shirley”. She first met Pastor Caesar when she was 11 years old. She preached for her Youth Revival, accompanied her to Heritage USA and built a strong relationship which was beneficial when her mother died. She continues to love, admire and support her Godmother, Pas-tor Caesar. Nell has written two books, “Healing It Belongs to You” and “Breaking Free”. You can reach out to Nell on Facebook, search YouTube or email [email protected].
