Connecting Apple Time Capsule to a Sonos Music System

1) Open Airport Utility which can be found in Utilities.

2) Select "Manual Setup"

3) Click on the "Time Capsule" tab and then make note of the hostname under Time Capsule Name.

The name we are looking for ends in .local

In the example pictured below, our hostname is SonosTimeC

If the hostname has any spaces or special characters, omit them and ensure the name is less than 15 letters / numbers.

You do not have to put .local after it.

4) Click on the Disks button. In the Disks tab below, make note of your share name.

In the example picture below, our share name is Music

If the Disk Name has any spaces or special characters, omit them and ensure the name is less than 15 letters / numbers.

We are now finished gathering the information we need to add the Time Capsule to Sonos. Quit out of the Airport Utility.

Open your Sonos Desktop Controller Application

5) Click Music and then choose "Set Up Music Library"

6) Click the Add... button

7) Select "On a networked device such as a network-attached storage (NAS)..." and click continue.

8) This is where you will need to enter in the information we gathered from Airport Utility.

Enter the network path to the Time Capsule. First hostname followed by the share name.

Do not put .local after the hostname

You can also use the IP address to the Time Capsule, but this is not recommended as the IP may change.

Enter the username for your Mac and the password you setup on the Time Capsule.

Click Continue

9) Click Continue again to start indexing the music on your Time Capsule.

10) When it finishes indexing you can click Done. You should now be able to see and play the music from your Time Capsule.
