Status

Call for supplying historic and recent data was issued after transport TG meeting in Milano, autumn 2008

Response from JET: Historic He CXRS was poorly calibrated, not suitable for profile studies. Recent data to become available soon

He spectra inherently difficult to interpret: parasitic lines and strong plume effect for usual horizontal CXRS view

No response received from other ITPA partners

We believe historical data exist at least at DIII-D and at JT-60U

Why He transport? Important for ash removal Both diffusion and convection important No systematic investigations or database

yet Some, not all, existing published data

suggest convection may be outward (hollow He profiles) in H-mode, or inward convection weaker than for C, ne in ITB. Example: JT-60

Hollow He profiles favourable, equivalent to a main plasma contribution to He compression and hence pumping.

Peaked He unfavourable (dilute fuel in core)

Need He transport in various scenarios to better predict fusion performance

What data? He present in % range (like He ash in ITER) Hybrid, AT, ITB, ‘ordinary H-modes’ also welcome

some L-modes useful for physics

A) Stationary profile data Need nHe(r) in addition to the usual profiles and scalars in the

profile database, typically Te,Ti, ne, (nc),q,He (if He beams).

B) D,V from modulated He or puffs, if available How?

Designate volunteer to dig into historic data, but check soundness of data. Contact spokesperson…

Parasitic experiments with gas injection puffs into D Contact [email protected] , thanks!
