•TaylorCountywascreatedin1856outofMadisonCountyandnamedafterthetwelfthPresidentoftheUnitedStates,ZacharyTaylor.ThecountyseatwasfirstnamedRoseheadbytheearlyNativeAmericansbecauseoftheabundanceofbeautifulwildrosebusheswhichgrewinthearea.In1875thenamewaschangedtoPerrytownandeventuallyPerryafterGovernorStarkPerry.
•Spanningover1200squaremiles,thecountyisnestledintheBigBendareaofthestateandoffersamplehuntingandfishingopportunities.

Inrecognitionofthesignificantrolethatfreightmobilityplaysasaneconomicdriverforthestate,anOfficeofFreight,LogisticsandPassengerOperationshasbeencreatedatFDOT.ThisofficehasbeentaskedwithmeetingtherequirementsoflegislationinFloridaHouseBill599,aswellasmeetingnationalfreightguidanceofferedinH.R.4348,theMovingAheadforProgressinthe21stCenturyAct(MAP-21).
