Founder – He has made the foundation for ISKCON. We must build on that but not change it.In the NoI we will find many statements about what is the foundation of ISKCON.Acharya – He teaches by his example. He practices

what he preaches.

Founder-AcharyaThis is the title that Srila

Prabhupada adamantly and repeatedly demanded for

himself in ISKCON.

The Nectar of Instruction Preface

The Krsna consciousness movement is conducted under the supervision of Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī.The Gaudīya Vaisnavas, or Bengali Vaisnavas, are mostly followers of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, of whom the six Gosvāmīs of Vrndāvana are direct disciples. Therefore Śrīla Narottama dāsa Thākura has sung:rūpa-raghunātha-pade ha-ibe ākuti kabe hāma bujhaba se yugala-pīriti

PrefaceWriter’s GuideThe book’s Preface should explain:A.The purpose of the

book.B.Under what

circumstances it is being produced.

C.What are the qualifications of the author.

D.What qualifications are expected of the reader.

Can you find these in the NOI Preface?

Page 7: Tava-pache-pache

PrefaceThe first two paragraphs of the NOI Preface are a preface, but the second two paragraphs are an introduction.

What does it introduce?

Do you see how detailed and deep is Srila Prabhupada’s consciousness?

Just on the cover, just in the Preface, there is so

much to see.

Page 11: Tava-pache-pache

Therefore Śrīla Narottama dāsa Thākura has sung:rūpa-raghunātha-pade ha-ibe ākuti kabe hāma bujhaba se yugala-pīritiIf we investigate just this one citation (as it seems we should do for all the NOI citations) then we discover so many things. It seems that the citations are not just any citations, but THE citation that the Acharya’s use to illustrate, support, the topic under discussion. This citation from Narottama dasa Thakura is from his songbook Prarthana, but not just any song, the first song, and furthermore it is one of only two, or maybe three, songs that Srila Prabhupada cites completely in all of his books. This is one is cited in Caitanya-caritamta Adi-lila, Chapter Seven.

Page 12: Tava-pache-pache

This one is the song starting, “Gauranga bolite habe…”, and the other one is, “Narada muni bhajai vina…” in Canto Six.This “Gauranga bolite…” is a summary of our whole philosophy, our whole path. That is quite appropriate since it is the first song in Prarthana. We memorized it, have lectured and given seminars on it. We see Prabhupada using it again and again, and we can appreciate more and more the context and content of how he uses it.You do that too!

"When will there be eruptions on my body as soon as I chant the name of Lord Caitanya, and when will there be incessant torrents of tears as soon as I chant the holy names Hare Krsna? When will Lord Nityānanda be merciful toward me and free me from all desires for material enjoyment? When will my mind be completely freed from all contamination of desires for material pleasure? Only at that time will it be possible for me to understand Vrndāvana.

Only if I become attached to the instructions given by the six Gosvāmīs, headed by Rūpa Gosvāmī and Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī, will it be possible for me to understand the conjugal love of Rādhā and Krsna."

Well, we hope this gives you more of a handle on Srila Prabhupada’s NOI.

Maybe we can do some of the other Texts, but even if not, please appreciate the depth and value of even this one book of Srila Prabhupada, which “constitutes first instructions for neophyte devotees”.
