1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

PISTOLS are classified as FIREARMS or DANGEROUS WEAPONS and aresold by us with the specific understanding that we are not responsible inany manner whatsoever for their improper or negligent handling orresale under local laws and regulations.

Taurus shall not be responsible in any manner whatsoever formalfunctioning of the firearm, or for physical injury or property damage, resulting in whole or in part from (1) criminal or negligent discharge, (2)improper or careless handling, (3) unauthorized modifications, (4)defective, improper hand-loaded, or reloaded ammunition, (5) neglect,or (6) other influences beyond our direct and immediate control. Thislimitation applies regardless of whether liability is asserted on the basisof contract, negligence or strict liability (including any failure to warn).Under no circumstance shall Taurus be liable for incidental orconsequential damages, such as loss of use of property, commercial lossand loss of earnings or profits.

SAFETY WARNINGSNOT JUST FOR BEGINNERS

Regardless of your familiarity or experience with firearms, you need tostudy this manual. The safe handling of firearms requires specialized training, discipline andcaution. Firearms, by their nature and intended function, are deadlyinstruments. Accidental death or serious injury can result if they arehandled improperly or carelessly.

Firearms rarely cause accidents. Firearms accidents almost always arecaused by a failure to obey the basic rules of gun safety. Unfortunately, experienced shooters seem to violate these rules as frequently asbeginners. Thus the basics of safe firearms handling cannot be repeatedtoo often. Read, re-read and practice the basic principles of firearmssafety until they become second nature: habits that you don’t forget. Ifyou have any question about your knowledge or ability to use this or anyother firearm with complete safety you should seek supervisedinstruction. Personalized instruction is often available from firearmsdealers, gun clubs, state hunter safety programs or police departments inthe United States. If none of these sources is accessible, write to theNational Rifle Association, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030 orat www.nra.org. THEY WILL ASSIST YOU.

ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION AND FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER.

A person with a firearm in his possession has a full-timeresponsibility. He must KNOW how to keep and use his firearmsafely, and then must always TAKE the precautions necessary -all ofthem. He cannot guess; he cannot forget. This responsibility is hisalone. It cannot be passed off to someone else. Remember: nofirearm can be made accident-proof. A firearm is just a machine, withno judgement of its own. It responds to your actions, whether wise orfoolish. The only truly effective safety device is the mind of acautious shooter who never forgets that a moment’s carelessnesscan produce permanent tragedy.

Many makes and models of firearms might LOOK nearly the same. However, they differ widely in design and operation, and in thelocation and function of various controls.

Study this manual thoroughly. Educate yourself on thecharacteristics and operation of your particular firearm beforeattempting to handle it. Do not permit others to handle it - unlessthey also have done so.

You should have an instruction manual for every firearm you own. Ifyou do not, write the manufacturer and obtain one. Mostmanufacturers will gladly send you one free. If for any reason amanual is not available, visit your public library. Many books havebeen published which contain detailed information on obsolete ordiscontinued firearms.

Your knowledge can prevent injuries.

Firearms are not all alike

Taurus firearms are designed and made to offer maximumsafety when correctly used. However, as with any other weapon,it is not foolproof, and may become very dangerous if the nextbasic recommendations are not RIGIDLY observed:

WARNING

Taurus Pistols were manufactured to perform properly with theoriginal parts as designed. It is your duty to make sure any parts youbuy are installed correctly and that neither replacements nororiginals are altered or changed. Your firearm is a simple tool but ithas many parts that must relate correctly to other parts. Putting afirearm together wrong or modified parts can result in adamaged firearm, danger and injury or death to you and othersthrough malfunction. Always have a qualified gunsmith work onyour firearm.

THIS PISTOL IS CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED.INJURY OR DEATH MAY RESULT. NEVER POINT A LOADED PISTOL ATANYONE OR ANYTHING YOU DO NOT INTEND TO SHOOT.

To prevent injury or death, it is imperative that you must keep yourfirearm unloaded, securely locked, with ammunition in a separatelocation. In addition, take any other reasonable steps to limit thepossibility of theft, crime, accident or suicide.

LOADING

Always make sure the muzzle is pointed in a safedirection.

Never attempt to load or unload any firearm insidea vehicle, building or other confined space (except a properlyconstructed shooting range). Enclosed areas frequently do not oftera completely safe direction to point the firearm; if an accidentaldischarge occurs, there is a great risk of injury or property damage.

Before loading, always clean all grease and oilfrom the bore and chamber, and check to be certain that noobstruction is in the barrel. Any foreign matter in the barrel couldresult in a bulged or burst barrel or other damage to the firearm, andcould cause serious injury to the shooter or the others.

FIRING

Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and your fingeraway from the trigger when cocking any firearm.

Never carry, handle or leave unattended any firearm whichis cocked and ready-to-fire. When cocked, it will fire from slight pressureon the trigger. An accidental discharge could easily result if you fall ordrop the firearm, or if the firearm is struck or disturbed by someone orsomething.

Never fire any semi-automatic firearm with your finger, hand, face, or other part of your body over or adjacent to the ejection port,or in any position where you may be struck by reciprocating movement ofthe slide (or bolt). Both the ejection of the empty cartridge cases and themovement of the slide (or bolt) are part of the normal operating cycle ofsemi-automatic firearms, and pose no safety hazard to the shooter if thefirearm is held in a normal grip and fired at arm’s length (in the case of ahandgun) as intended by its design.

Never allow other persons to stand beside you where theymight be struck by an ejected cartridge case. The case is hot, and may beejected with sufficient force to cause a burn, or cut, or injury to anunprotected eye. Make certain there is a clear, unobstructed path for safeejection of the fired case. Remember, the case may bounce off a hardobject nearby and strike you or someone else.

If while shooting, your firearm develops ANY mechanicalmalfunction or binding, or “spits” powder, gas, or if a cartridge primer ispunctured or a cartridge case is bulged or ruptured, or if the report onfiring does not sound quite right, STOP SHOOTING IMMEDIATELY. It maybe dangerous to continue. UNLOAD THE FIREARM. DO NOT try “one moreshot”. Take the firearm and ammunition to a gunsmith for examination.

While shooting any semi-automatic firearm, an unfiredcartridge case may occasionally become jammed between the slide (orbolt) and the barrel. Clear the jam as follows, WHILE KEEPING THE MUZZLEPOINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION: remove the magazine, then pull back theslide (or bolt) and hold or lock it to the rear. The jammed cartridge or casenow can be removed by shaking it out or by picking it out.

SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOLS

Risk of an accident is greatly increased when anysemi-automatic pistol, no matter how safely designed, is carried witha cartridge in the chamber. THIS PRACTICE IS NOT RECOMMENDEDAND MAY BE JUSTIFIED ONLY IN CIRCUMSTANCE OF CLEAR ANDPRESENT DANGER WHEN THE PISTOL MAY IMMEDIATELY HAVE TO BEUSED IN SELF-DEFENSE. By far the safest procedure when carrying aloaded pistol is to leave the chamber empty.

Always point the muzzle in a safe direction whenmanually operating the slide to load the first cartridge from themagazine into the chamber. Malfunctions which allow the pistol tofire without the trigger being pulled when the slide snaps closed arerare but can happen. Always grip the slide so that your finger, hand, elbow and other parts of your body are BEHIND the pistol and yourfinger is off the trigger.

3.1 -

3.2 -

3.3 -

3.4 -

Use only high quality, original, factory-manufacturedammunition. Do not use cartridges that are dirty, wet, corroded, bent or damaged. Do not oil cartridges. Lubricant or other foreignmatter on cartridges can cause potentially dangerous ammunitonmalfunctions. Use only ammunition of the caliber for which yourfirearm is chambered. The proper caliber is permanently engravedon your firearm; never attempt to use ammunition of any othercaliber.

The use of reloaded (remanufactured), hand-loaded, or othernon-standard ammuniton voids all warranties. Improperly loadedammunition can be extremely dangerous. Severe damage to thefirearm and serious injury to the shooter or to others may result.Always use ammunition that complies with the industryperformance standards established by the Sporting Arms andAmmunition Manufacturers Institute, Inc., of the United States,(SAAMI) or the equivalent from other countries.

Firearms may be severely damaged and serious injury to theshooter or to others may result from any condition causingexcessive pressure inside the chamber or barrel during firing.Excessive pressure can be caused by obstructions in the barrel, propellant powder overload, or by the use of incorrect cartridges ordefectively assembled cartridges.

Immediately stop shooting and check the barrel for a possibleobstruction whenever:- You have difficulty in, or feel unusual resistance in, chambering acartridge;- A cartridge misfires(does not go off);- The mechanism fails to extract a fired cartridge case;- Unburned grains of propellant powder are discovered spilled inmechanism;- A shot sounds weak or abnormal.

3.5 -

3.6 -

3.7 -

If there is any reason to suspect that a bullet is obstructing thebarrel, immediately unload the firearm and look through the bore. It isnot suffcient to merely look in the chamber. A bullet may be lodgedsome distance down the barrel where it can not easily be seen.IF A BULLET IS IN THE BORE, DO NOT ATTEMP TO SHOOT IT OUT BYUSING ANOTHER CARTRIDGE, OR BY BLOWING IT OUT WITH A BLANKOR ONE FROM WHICH THE BULLET HAS BEEN REMOVED. SUCHTECHNIQUES CAN GENERATE EXCESSIVE PRESSURE, WRECK THEFIREARM AND CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.

If the bullet can be removed with a cleaning rod, clean any unburnedpowder grains from the bore, chamber, and mechanism beforeresuming shooting. If the bullet cannot be dislodged by tapping itwith a cleaning rod, take the firearm to a gunsmith.

Do not oil cartridges, and be sure to wipe the chamber clean ofany oil or preservative before commencing to shoot. Oil interfereswith the friction between cartridge case and chamber wall that isnecessary for safe functioning, and subjects the firearm to stresssimilar to that imposed by excessive pressure.

Use lubricants sparingly on the moving parts of your firearm.Avoid excessive spraying of any aerosol firearm care productespecially where it may get on ammunition. All lubricants and aerosolspray, lubricants in particular, can penetrate cartridge primers andcause misfires. Some highly penetrative lubricants can also migrateinside cartridge cases and cause deterioration of the propellantpowder; on firing, the powder may not ignite. If only the primerignites, there is danger that the bullet may become lodged in thebarrel.

These Taurus pistols do not have a magazine dis-connect (safety). They are capable of firing with magazineremoved.

WARNING:

4. The pistol is ready forinstant use. If the pistol isnot to be use immediately, the magazine should beremoved and the chamberunloaded. When the pistolis in the “semi-cocked”mode, the first shot can befired double-action bypulling the trigger all the

way to the rear, which fully cocks and releases the hammer andthen fires the pistol. Subsequent shots are fired in the same wayby releasing and then pulling the trigger until the magazine isempty, the hammer being semi-cocked by the slide as it recoilsfrom each shot. AFTER A SHOT IS FIRED, THE TRIGGER MUST BEALLOWED TO MOVE FULLY FORWARD. If the trigger is pulledbefore the trigger mechanism fully resets (two “clicks”) thehammer may or may not fire the cartridge.

5. Immediately followingthe firing of a shot, and if asubsequent shot is not tobe fired at once, removethe magazine and lock theslide back using the slidecatch. Be sure the chamberis empty. If the slide is shut, the shooter should always

assume that there is a cartridge in the chamber! Don’t rely onyour memory to know if a gun or magazine is loaded. Visuallyinspect the magazine and chamber.

Always wear adequate shooting glasses and ear plugs or “ear muff”type protectors whenever you are shooting. Always make certain thatpersons close to you are similarly protected. Unprotected eyes maybe injured by powder, gas, carbon residue, lubricant, metallicparticles or similar debris which may emanate occasionally from anyfirearm in normal use. Without ear protection, repeated exposure toshooting noise may lead to cumulative, permanent hearing loss.

Empty cartridges are automatically ejected from your pistol at aconsiderable speed and may cause injury to people close to you.Thepistol slide moves backwards during the shot. Therefore, keep yourface away from the pistol. Do not use double-holding, a condition inwhich the thumb of the hand not used to hold the pistol stays overthe other hand.

The firearm may be cleaned and lubricated under normal conditions withthe disassembly steps described in section 5- In special conditions, such as repairs, when disassembling is necessary,it is recommended the firearm be sent to a competent gunsmith or theimporter.- In order to keep a firearm in perfect condition it must be kept clean andcovered with a slight film of good quality oil to prevent corrosion. This isespecially necessary after use.- For normal cleaning of firearm not used or kept in storage for sometime,it is necessary to rub it with a lightly oiled cloth. In the same wayproceed with the bore of the barrel. The excess of oil must be removed- For cleaning after shooting it is of special importance that all residues ofpowder be removed from barrel and other adjacent areas using anappropriate brush. If particles of lead are detected in barrel they must bescrubbed with a brass brush, drenched with oil. Once cleaned, lubricationshould be done as above described.

- The magazine also must be cleaned to keep the firearm in goodoperating condition. The magazine shall be disassembled as follows:

Use a punch to press in on magazine spring seat.

Slide the magazine floorplate toward the front of the magazine, takingcare to prevent the forcible ejection of the magazine spring plate andcompressed magazine spring.

SAFETY FIRST: PARTS

All firearms require periodic maintenance and inspection which may

reveal a need for adjustment or repair. Have your firearm checked by a

competent gunsmith annually, even if it seems to be working well,

since breakage, improper functioning, undue wear, or corrosion of

some components may not be apparent from external examination. If

you notice ANY mechanical malfunction, do NOT continue to use the

firearm. UNLOAD the firearm and take it to a competent gunsmith

immediately.

Our Service Department maintains a full complement of replacement

parts for our firearms of current manufacture. Even though most

gunsmiths have the knowledge, training and ability to make the

necessary repairs to your firearm, the skill and workmanship of any

particular gunsmith is totally beyond our control. Should your firearm

ever require service, we strongly recommend that you return it to

Taurus. Follow the instructions outlined below. Remember,

unauthorized adjustments or parts replacement can void your

warranty.

It is the responsibility of the purchaser to be absolutely certain that

any parts ordered from Taurus are of the correct type and are properly

fitted and installed by a competent person. THIS FIREARM IS A

PRECISION MECHANISM AND THE IMPROPER FITTING OF PARTS OR

IMPROPER MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT MAY RESULT IN A DANGEROUS

MALFUNCTION, DAMAGE TO THE FIREARM, AND POSSIBLE SERIOUS

INJURY TO THE SHOOTER OR TO OTHERS. Therefore, the purchaser

and/or installer of parts must accept full responsibility for the correct

adjustment of and function of the firearm after such installation has

been made or attempted.
