MARK YOUR CALENDARS for two events. The Mid-Missouri Council Brunch will be hosted by Eta Chapter on December 12 at 10:30 at the Fulton Country Club. They will provide more details later. The Delta State Convention is scheduled for April 21-22, 2017, at Courtyard by Marriott in Columbia, MO. Re-gional Conferences will be announced for the spring of 2016. I have accepted an invitation from Delta State President Cay Sergent to serve as Northeast Area Coordinator. More infor-mation about the Northeast Area Conference will be reported after a planning meeting in August. Paulette Fischer will join other officers and members of Delta State at the Southwest Regional Conference in Wichita, KS, the weekend of July 25. At last report she was looking for “boots and bling” for one of the sessions. We are so fortunate to have a Tau member serving Delta State! It was so moving to recognize the dedication and service of

Tau members at the April meeting. YOU are the reason Tau Chapter is successful! Our membership is en-hanced by three new members—Sarah Porter, Theresa Struemph, and Sara Wallis. Once again, we con-gratulate Gloria Fields as Tau Chapter Lady of Distinction. In April, Colleen Abbott was presented the Past President Award by the University of Missouri Ag Alumni As-sociation. These awards are the organization’s highest honor—presented for teaching, advising, research, extension and volunteering, and to outstanding staff, alumni, students and student clubs. Congratulations, Colleen! We are proud of you.

Thanks to Tau member Gloria Fields for an update about Helen Schulte. Earlier this month, Helen chose to reside at the Miller County Nursing Home in Tuscumbia. She hopes to regain enough strength to return home, but she is now 96 and did not know if that would be possible. Let’s remember Helen in our prayers and, with a cheerful card. The address is Miller County Care & Rehabilitation Center, 1157 Highway 17, Tus-cumbia, MO 65082. As DKG members, we are to review our SAP (Strategic Action Plan) annually, so we will ask for suggestions at the July meeting. Membership has been our focus for the past several years—do we continue with a focus on membership for another year? Please share your recommendations at the meeting. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: At the July meeting we will take time to re-evaluate our committee goals (for 2014-2016). The stated goals should be met by the end of the biennium—April 2016. You can find the goals on the website tauchapterdelta.org – choose Resources then select Committee Goals and Responsibilities. Also, you can access the Strategic Action Plan from the Resources page. Each committee will have an op-portunity to report on revisions to the goals during the chapter meeting. (A few printed copies will be available at the meeting.) Tau members will continue to support THAT (Teachers Helping Another Teacher) program. Please continue to report volunteer hours and mentoring of students as well as financial contributions for the THAT program. Sherri Carter has provided excellent leadership for the Tau Teachers Care program. Also, we will continue our contributions to Buddy Packs as a Service Project—please check Tau Tales for details. As Tau members, we have so much to be grateful for—and so much more to accomplish. I appreciate the opportunity to serve as your president. Arlene

July Hostesses Report Theme: “Party like a Lake Girl”

Roll Call activity: When your name is called, you could say one piece of personal trivia the girls probably don't know about you. For example: I was Miss Camden County Fair Queen or won the Eldon Middle School Spelling Bee in 7th grade, or went on a date with the guy who went on to start the Applebee's restaurant chain or my grandpa attended Ronald Reagan's inauguration, etc. Be prepared to say just your state-ment!

Your hostesses pictured—Karen Blevins, Anita Chilton, Robin Adams,

Beverly Kincade, Debbie Misenheimer, and Angie Wolfe—invite all!

Program:

The Lake hostesses are pleased to announce the program for the meeting will be Lake Girl Team Trivia. Each lady at-tending our meeting will be randomly assigned a team. Nominations Chair Sharon Buster

We will continue the Tau Teachers Care program for new teachers in the dis-tricts we have previously done. We have enough cups so all we need from members is No. 2 Yellow Pencils (unsharpened) to put in the cups. We put 24 in each cup, and last year we filled 72 cups for new teachers. Please do not send mechanic pencils because they do not fit correctly into the current cups we are using. If members could start bringing these to the July meeting (while school supplies are on sale...) we can start working on them as I will be deliver-ing them by the first of October at the latest. Thank you very much for your generosity in helping us with this very worthwhile project.

We commend our great slate of officers that are presently serving. We have out-standing leadership and we are so appreciative. The nomination committee con-tinues to seek members who are willing to serve as officers. We already have a volunteer for one office for the next biennium. That's the Tau spirit!!!

Lillian Anderson 60 Years Membership

Lillian Anderson received her 60 year recognition certificate for membership in Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Gracie and Gloria Fields delivered it to her at the nursing home in Paris on Mother's Day. She was glad to see us and to re-ceive the award, even if she did have to turn down her Cardinal's game on the radio while we talked to her!

Lela Zey 52 Years Membership

Last week I visited with Lela Zey and took her picture. The California Com-munity Band played at her care center and she so enjoyed the music. We had such a nice chat afterwards. She's already talking about celebrating her 100th birthday in 2 and a half years! I told her I'd be there. I thought you might include her picture in Tau Tales. Nancy Lewis

Report on 81st Delta State Convention Nadine’s Theme: Spice up your life—with friendships

Your Chapter was represented at Delta State by 4 members: Paulette Fischer, Nancy Lewis, Judy Stanford and your president. Paulette was introduced as the new Executive Secretary/Treasurer of Tau. She will take office July 1. Nancy Lewis was recognized for Key Woman Educator at the Saturday luncheon. We are proud to have Nancy represent Tau Chapter as a Key Woman Educator. Judy Stanford, Achievement Awards Chair recognized Chapters earning Achievement Awards. Tau chapter received a Five Star Chapter Achievement Award for outstanding accomplishments and contributions—attendance at meetings, programs, and initiation of new members. I want to commend all of you for this award—your contributions to Tau Chapter are evident! Tau Chapter was also awarded the following:

· T.H.A.T. Award—Teachers Helping Another Teacher. Delta State reported over 2,500 total hours and

$9,000 in monetary contributions (thank you Betty Mudd for collecting and submitting this data)

to Alice VanLanduyt, Arlene Broeker and honorary member Jerena Giffen.

The Delta State Scholarship Committee Chair, Grace Weber, announced that they recommended Megan Humphreys of Eldon to receive the Bradford Grant-in-Aid award in the amount of $1,000. My duties were to assist with Order of the Rose presentation and the Celebration of Life ceremony on Sunday. 37 members were honored with a white rose at the Celebration of Life. There were several excellent speakers—the NW area coordinator Claudette Scott-Rogers welcomed us with “All I need to know I learned in 4-H (Kindergarten)” 4-H promotes “Make the best better” and that is something we can all follow. The luncheon speaker, Dr. Jennifer Webb of Epsilon Chapter addressed Teachers with Style—the style repre-sents Show respect, Take responsibility, a You can do attitude, Leading positively and Exhibiting safety. She explained each component with examples and said she emphasizes to students “It’s always the right time to do the right thing.” Elinor Etterling, former Delta President from Raytown, entertained us at the Sunday breakfast with her com-ments and humorous stories. She suggested we can be “over the top friendly at meetings because no one wants to go where they are not wanted.” There were excellent workshops offered—I learned about the use of Google Classroom and Google Docs to improve student learning, and suggestions to improve membership. New officers for Delta State were installed—President Cay Sergent, 1

st VP Karen Evans, 2

nd VP Marty Tidd,

Recording Secretary Jana Siefkas, Executive Secretary/Treasurer Paulette Fischer. There were 175 DKG members registered representing 43 chapters. We were very proud to represent Tau Chapter at the Delta State Convention. The site for the 2017 convention has not been named, but it will be in the Central area—committee looking at a Columbia location. The 2017 Delta State Convention will be held April 21-23 at Courtyard by Marriott in Columbia.
