Minnesota Rural Water Association in cooperation with WaterUniversity presents Utility Management Certification (UMC).Invest in your future and gain the recognition you deserve inthe water and wastewater industry.

Today, the water and wastewater industry is more complexthan ever before. Economics, increased complexity in regulatory requirements, and a changing society are craftingthe water and wastewater industry of tomorrow.

As our industry changes, there is a strong need to recognizethe individuals who provide management leadership to theindustry and create a standard for the future manager to strive for, thus meeting the demands of the future.

The “Utility Management Certification” program is designed to recognize the professionaleducational achievements of individuals and to market their achievements and skills toincrease the value of today’s utility manager.

Operator Certification alone is not enough for tomorrow’s manager. The future will demanddifferent skill sets that far exceed operations.

The UMC designation will document fields of study in public relations, financial planning, ethics, humanresources, and other skills not covered in today’s operatorcertification programs.

Be prepared for the future; earn the respect you deserve!

We invite you to achieve the recognition of UtilityManagement Certification for your future and the futureof your water and wastewater industry.

City of Onamia Checks Out MRWA’s Valve Exerciser Machine

The city of Onamia used MRWA’s “Spin Doctor” inAugust. Tom Cunz from Onamia said “We found that several of the 100+ valves that we used it on made aworthwhile change on the amount of torque it takes toturn them. For instance, some of them would start out at100psi or so and by running it up and down a few turns at a time, it then would only require about 50 or 60psi toturn the valves. One big plus of going through all thevalves was the other little issues we found. We found 2 or 3 valves off that were keeping the main from beinglooped and a few that were a few turns from being fullyopen and a hydrant valve that was half open. Themachine worked fine and we found that the large squareshaft wasn’t ideal on the valves that were not centered inthe box as it was hard to get on the nut.. By and large we were satisfied with the outcome!” Photo above shows thecity of Onamia using the Valve Exerciser “Spin Doctor” machine. Call MRWA at 800-367-6792 for more informationon renting the machine for your city!

the wisest might err.” — Mahatma Gandhi 3. “On the highest throne in the world, we still sit only on our own bottom.” — Michel de Montaigne 4. “Early in my career...I had to choose between an honest arrogance and a hypercritical humility... I deliberately
