TWC is responsible for overseeing the state’s workforce development programs, administering the Unemployment Insurance program,
and upholding Texas labor law, and maintaining Texas labor market statistical information 28 Workforce Development Boards & more
than 240 Workforce Centers 3,525 Email boxes
Business Problem
Aging hardware
End-of-life version of Microsoft Exchange
Data recovery and stability concerns

The Solution
Migrate Exchange Servers, mailboxes, personal .pst folders, and Blackberry devices from DCS to the Microsoft hosted solution, part of Office 365.
Replace Message One Email failover with auto-failover at Microsoft datacenters.
Move spam filtering and mailbox virus protection to the Microsoft hosted site.

Issues Encountered
Upgrades required o Office 2007 sp2 on all agency computers o Deploy AD FS 2.0 on Windows 2008 server
Single Sign-On not working o Configure so users didn’t have a second sign-on o Require purchase of additional servers o Open ticket with Microsoft

Office 365 does not support Blackberry devices o Switch agency supported devices to iPhone o Very limited time for testing and problem solving
Spam settings not as timely or strict
Indexing issues for users with large .pst files

Mailbox issues on Office 365 o Outlook rules should be turned off o Senders with read/receipt turned on receiving auto
response that message was deleted unread o Historical emails reappearing in batches o Meeting notices reappearing from several years ago o Limit for sending mass emails - 500 at a time o Manual requirement to correct time zone in Office
365 Web Portal - no global setting
