TASK 6: TWO TYPE OF DEMOCRACY According to Robert Dahl, a political scientist, the democratic ideal is based on two principles which are first, it is a political participation where it requires the citizen who are eligible to vote can vote and elections must be free, fair and competitive. Second, it is a political contestation that refers to the ability of people to express their discontent through freedom of speech and press where the citizen should have the ability to meet and discuss their views on political issues without fear of persecution from the state. Democratic government will guarantee both electoral freedoms and civil rights are referred to as liberal democracies. Two types of democracy are Direct Democracy and Representative Democracy. Direct Democracy is where the people make the key political decisions by themselves. This abolishes any distinction between the state and the citizens as it is a form of self-government. The effectiveness of this model of democracy is directly proportional to the extent of popular participation. Each person is treated equally and will be given a chance to directly influence the policymaking process. However, in practice this system is hard to implement. Representative Democracy however is an indirect and limited form of democracy. This political arrangement creates an intermediary political represented between the individual and the policy outputs of the country. It is where the people choose who shall make decisions on their behalf and citizen
