Unit 57: Photography and Photographic Practise Project Proposal (P2, P3, M2, M3, D2, D3) Candidate name: Theme: Music Magazine Portrait Photo Shoot Predicted final outcome For my final outcome I will be choosing 10 images from my collection of at least 50. These images will be of Salford Quays and will contain a variety of different aspects. I Most probably will take a few images of up-close faces; These will be from all different angles and heights. I will also try and get images of full body shots. These will be taken from the other side of the person, having half of the images with the model cantered and the other half with the model on the side. Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others) Joe McNally, is famous photographer who specializes in portrait photography, the images he takes are always brilliant and well set up. The lighting used in his images is done to impact the viewer. For instance in this image: You can see how he uses the darkness of the shading to give this image more of an impact. Allowing the viewer to look more indepth into this image. Also the way he uses the rule of thirds, and the way he places the Fireman on one side, and behind him, having loads of fireman kits. You can also see in this image:

(P2, P3, M2, M3, D2, D3)

Candidate name: Theme: Music Magazine Portrait Photo Shoot

Predicted final outcome

For my final outcome I will be choosing 10 images from my collection of at least 50.

Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)

Joe McNally, is famous photographer who specializes in portrait photography, the images he takes are always brilliant and well set up. The lighting used in his images is done to impact the viewer. For instance in this image:

You can see how he uses the darkness of the shading to give this image more of an impact. Allowing the viewer to look more indepth into this image. Also the way he uses the rule of thirds, and the way he places the Fireman on one side, and behind him, having loads of fireman kits. You can also see in this image:

The use of the mans skin colour, and the darkness of the backgound, and how the photographer edited these to blend together, also the way the mans covered in water and the light is reflecting off his skin. Joe McNally uses the lighing, rule of thirds and general composition to capture a speachless photo, and does this amazingly.

These piticular types of images would feature in magazines such as the times. This is because in a few of the covers of this magazine the images have been editied to have extreamly dark areas for example here is one with seve jobs:

As you can see, a similar effect has been used.

The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why

The camera I will be using is the Canon 60D. This cameras technical specifications are :

• 18 MP APS-C CMOS sensor

• Advanced creative features• Vari-Angle 7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 ratio LCD

• Full HD Movies• DIGIC 4

• ISO 100-6400, H:12800• Up to 5.3FPS shooting for up to 58 JPEGs

• 9-point cross type AF System• IFCL metering with 63-zone Dual-Layer Sensor

I also will be using a tripod provided by college.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message

The technique’s I will be using are: Shutter speed, ISO Level, F-Stop, and rule of thirds.I will change the shutter speed depending on what is in the image, This will be based on the brightness and if anything is moving. The ISO Level will be changed on the basis of me being inside or outside, looking up in the sky, or down to the ground. Or if I generally would like this image to look a bit darker than the others. This will all cause me to also change the ISO.The F-Stop on these images I will be taking will differ on the grounds of focus, and detail. There will be a higher F-Stop to make sure hardly any of the image is blurry, but I will lower the F-Stop if I see something that has to have a blurry background.

Location of shoot The locations for my shoot may vary, this is dependant of what I would like to use in my image, I will taking images in a controlled environment (My House), this is to make sure I will have the lighting I would like, also if I would like to use any props or anything like that, I will have them in hand.

I also would like to take some images in a form of woods. This would most likely be taken in Lilford woods, or the surrounding area. Here is a few images of the woods I would like to use:
