Analysis of Articles- Double Page Spread 1 NME (September 2009)

The graffiti background represents the idea to Hip-Hop/Rap music is known as street music and it involves street art and rebellion.

In the main image the artist is seen spray painting the wall, which shows that he is involved with Hip-Hop/Rap music. He is looking over his shoulder to show that he is looking out for police as he is committing a crime, which is part of the street image. His clothes match with the colour scheme of the magazine black white and red.

Page number, issue date and magazine logo appear on all pages throughout the magazine so that readers can find what they are looking for from the contents page.

The credits to the writer and photographer help the audience recognise their names so that in future issues, if the readers see these names, they will know the standard of the article

The sub-heading introduces Dizzee Rascal and the article itself. It is required so that the target audience are given an insight into the article and the artist.

The main heading is unconventional because the typography is irregular. The scrapbook-style of the text links to the style of Hip-Hop/Rap music.

The 4 coloumns of text wrap around the image and the background is blurred to make the copy easy to read.

The image of beer bottles and a boombox represent the partying lifestyle of hip-hop/rap artists which is less glamorous than your typical

celebrity champagne party.

The text begins with a bold drop capital so that the target audience are drawn to the start of the article and then read the article.

Analysis of written article

The article itself is basically about the success story of Dizzee Rascal. It discusses his success and experience along the route to where he is at the time of the interview.

The style of the article is casual, but informative. Dizzee and the interviewer are having an informal conversation but the target audience are still able to have questions answered and learn more about the artist himself.

It is written in 4 short columns each of approx75-100 words and continues onto the next page as it is a long interview.

The main heading/headline is quite dramatic because the leap to fame was quick for Dizzee Rascal. And this represents the fast and successful year Dizzee Rascal has had.

Analysis of Articles- Double Page Spread 2 NME (November 3rd 2012)

The graffiti background represents the idea to Hip-Hop/Rap music is known as street music and it involves street art and rebellion.

The main image shows Alice, the lead singer infront of Ethan, the musician behind her. Alice is the main character and represents their rebellioud behaviour by lighting a cigarette. Their black clothes contrast against the background and shows that their music is quite dark.

Page number, issue date and magazine logo appear on all pages throughout the magazine so that readers can find what they are looking for from the contents page.

The sub-heading introduces Crystal Castles as a unconventional, alternative group. This links into the genre of NME .

The title has a backwards ‘s’ in the word ‘twisted’ to show the quirkiness and rebellious style of this artist.

The text is divided into 3 columns and continues over more pages which include more images of the duo.

The text begins with a bold, pink drop capital ‘I’ so that the target audience are drawn to the start of the article and then read the article.

Analysis of written article 2The title is larger than the article so that the readers attention is drawn to the page as they turn the pages.

The style of the article is very casual as they interviewer and the band have a conversation about success, lifestyle and music. The article is also informative as questions are answered that are in the interest of their fans and the magazine’s target audience. There is use of swear words, which conveys the lifestyle and attitude of Crystal Castles and also it gives an insight into the target audience..
