Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group,

Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The

Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300

magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and

radio stations. In 2008 Bauer Media joined Bauer Media Group.

The business is built on influential media brands with

millions of personal relationships with engaged readers

and listeners. Their strategy is to connect audiences

with good content through the different multi-media

platforms. Their wide portfolio of influential brands gives them

advantage over pure play magazines or radio

competitors. Today Bauer Media spans over 80 influential brand

names covering a diverse range of interests.

Its sister company H Bauer Publishing is a publisher of

the UK’s biggest TV listings, ‘Bella’ and ‘Take a Break’.

Bauer have a wide range of magazine brands that they

manage.. Some of these are; 4 Music, Car, Empire,

FHM, Fleet News, Grazia, Kiss, Kerrang, Heat and many

more! Kerrang is a popular rock magazine

George Newnes, Odhams Press and Fleetway Publications

all came together in 1963 with the Mirror Group to form the

International Publishing Corporation (IPC)

Five years later (1968) IPC Magazines was created.

IPC creates contents for multiple platforms across print,

mobile, tablets, online and events.

They have more than 60 iconic media brands.

They are the UK’s leading consumer magazine publishers

that engage with 26m UK adults – almost two thirds women

and 42% are men. There award winning portfolio of websites reaches over 25

million users globally each month.

They produce different types of magazines from sports and

leisure to teen and women's weeklies.

Example of magazines are Cycling weekly, decanter, InStyle,

Livingetc, LOOK, Eventing, Beautiful Kitchens, goodtoknow,

Ideal Home, Country Life, Pick Me Up, Marie Claire and much

more. The magazines they distribute are a very much mainstream

and niche. The iconic music magazine brand that IPC Media is well

known for is New Musical Express (NME) which was first

published in March 1952 and will be celebrating 50 years in

the music industry in 2012.

NME is the longest published and most respected music

weekly in the world.

EMAP

EMAP International Limited (now known as Top

Right Group) is a British media company,

specialising in the production of business-to-

business magazines, and the organisation of

business events and conferences.

EMAP was founded in 1947.

The company is now owned by Apaz, Guardian and

Media Group. EMAP has 20 magazines in its portfolio, some of

these are; Broadcast, Screen International, Retail

Week, Drapers, Health Service Journal, Nursing

Times and more! EMAP ceased publishing many magazines in its

history and they moved away from computer genre

magazines in the 90s. Some of these magazines

were; business matters, Nintendo official magazine,

pc leisure, sport, the one and many more.

EMAP had a music magazine called ‘Smash Hits’

which ran from 1978 -2006 and was a bi-weekly.

Smash Hits focused on pop music primarily, which

aimed at a young audience (children/young teens).

The magazine featured gossip, pop music artists

and fashion- more aimed at young girls.

Smash Hits rival magazine was Top of the Pops and

they tried to compete for a higher market share at

the same defined audience.

Future PLC is a worldwide media group (listed on the

London Stock exchange)

The company was founded in 1985.

When it was founded it only had one magazine.

Today they have operations in the UK, US and

Australia creating over 200 events, websites,

publications and events. They have market-leading positions in their core

sectors: Technology, Entertainment & Video Games,

Creative, Art, Music and Sport & Auto.

Over 50 million monthly unique visitors visit Futures

digital websites. They deliver over 100 digital editions and bespoke

apps on tablet devices. Future sell over 2.2 million magazine a month.

They export or syndicate to 89 countries.

Future are the UK’s number one exporter and

licensor of magazine content.

Future is also PPA and AOP Consumer Digital

Publisher of the Year. Some of Futures music magazines are: Classic Rock,

Metal Hammer, Guitar Techniques, Prog, Total Guitar,

Guitarist and many more.
