Task (b): Reflective Writing

First of all, I felt thank god because I had done my assignment

successfully. This assignment has been a good platform for us to gain a new

experience. This assignment was different with before as I needed to conduct a

study on two students which one of them always achieves good academic

performance and another achieve poor academic performance at SJK (c) Taman

Rejang during my School Based Experience (SBE). Finally, I decided to choose

Henry Wong and Wong Soon Chai as my subjects. The one who always scored

good result in the academic is Henry Wong while another student which

performed poor academic achievement is Wong Soon Chai. They had been

chosen because they were fulfilled to the requirement of my assignment. They

were easy to co-operate with. They could give me response actively when I

asked them some questions.

Firstly, I would like to state the problem that I faced before I doing my

assignment. Learner and learning environment is the subject that every semester

two students in IPG must take. Actually this subject is in Malays but my major is

TESL and all TESL must learn this subject in English. I was quite surprise when I

heard that this assignment need to do in English. It was because I got some

information for this subject only. If it was in Malays version, we can have the

reference books but in English we had none.

Before I was exposed to this coursework, I only know the basic knowledge

of the learning theories. I tried to search from internet to know more information

based on the question of the task. I also went to the library to find the related

books. I also spent some time discussed with my coursemates about the detail of

this assignment. I needed to find out the reasons what had influenced their

academic achievements. Through this assignment, I had gained new knowledge

about the theories. It was because we needed to relate the theories to the factors

that influenced the academic achievement of the two students.

Then, I would like to share about how I cope with the problem I had faced

while I was doing this assignment. From here, I put a lot of efforts of doing this

assignment. I also tried to ask the opinions from my lecturers about my

assignment and he gave me their opinions generously. I really appreciated for

the opinions and solutions that he gave to me. He gave me some guidance and

constant supervision as well as for providing necessary information regarding the

assignment. He had been very kind and patient while suggesting us the outlines

of this assignment too.

Besides that, through this assignment, I had learnt to manage my time as

well. I also needed to complete the task in a short period of time as I had a lot

assignment to do and the most important was the dateline for every assignment

were almost the same. As this tasks cannot be completed over a day or two, so I

decided to start it earlier. From this coursework, I learnt that we needed to

manage our time properly otherwise we would burn the midnight oil. Before that, I

always do the things last minutes and it made me nervous as I did not have the

idea where I should get started of it. For example, I needed to hand in tomorrow

and I started it tonight. This was not a good habit as I needed to rush overnight to

complete my task. It was a very tiring things in my life. Now, I got them done one

by one so I won’t get myself so stress. I felt so thankful because I could handle

them well.

Through this coursework, I had gained knowledge and understandings on

the subject EDU 3103, Learning and the learner. From my opinion, I felt that this

subject was a good platform for us to more about the teaching and learning. It

told us the ways and the implication for the teaching and learning process. As a

future teacher, and now as a student, I thought that we need to know these

things as a learner and a teacher in the future. It helps a lots in our dail lives as

well. Overall, this assignment really means a lot to me. By doing this

assignment, I also gained a lot of benefit. First and foremost, I learnt a lot about a

child. I also gain knowledge on understanding a child. I also knew how far the

factors influence the academic achievement of the children.

It gave knowledge that I needed as a future teacher especially about the

children. Through this assignment, I could get approach to the children and

understood them so that we could know how to teach the children and this is very

important for us because it will affect the teaching and learning process of a

student. Everyone has their own learning techniques and learning styles as we

needed to know because of individual differences, students have their own

learning ability and specific learning styles. In other word, this assignment is not

a burden but it helps me to gain more experience and knowledge. In addition,

from this subject, I also learnt that the effectiveness of teaching-learning activities

in the classroom depends on the teacher’s planning according to the pupils’ level

of development. With this in mind, the strategy of teaching-learning should be

suitable to the pupils’ stages of physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and social

development coupled with a conducive learning environment. Besides to make

the learning environment to be conducive, it should also include technical

elements such as leadership and teacher’s proficiency as well as social system,

custom and so on. These technical elements are vital to promote effective

learning in a conducive learning environment.

Last but not least, In conclusion, I have learned a lot from this assignment. I

feel that all of this experience cannot get from anywhere and just can get at here

and in this subject. All of the experiences and also the knowledge that I can I can

use it in the future as I will become a teacher. I also hope that I can gain more

about these things in order to help me to become a better student and can give

some good impact for the students to develop in a holistic way. I gained a lot

throughout the process in completing my assignment. I learnt how to work

together with my coursemates and I also realized that a thing is hard to be done

without the supports from peers. We can share the knowledge to help each other

too.
