Love and Light,

Lauren X

From the editor

The lights are coming out, the shops are busy with customers, and people are preparing holiday celebrations. It’s a time for joy and togetherness, but it can also be stressful. A good dose of spiritual and psychic insight can be just the thing for the holiday season.

Benedict Cumberbatch has a quirky connection to Christmas. Big things always seem to happen for him during the holidays. We take a closer look at where this connection, and how his psychic qualities have helped shape his destiny.

Christmas itself also deserves an in-depth look. Far from having only one meaning, it spans multiple religions and cultures throughout history. Are there any common symbols or messages that can deepen our understanding of the spiritual message of Christmas?

Karma is another important part of the holidays. People seem more sensitive to the karmic forces at work in their lives, and we explore the meaning behind this.

It’s a wonderful time of year in so many ways—including psychic and spiritual inspiration. We extend our very best wishes to you and yours for a happy Christmas, and are grateful to you for making us the most respected psychic reading service in Australia.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER THAT YOU WERE PSYCHIC?

Between the ages four and six, after a life threatening operation. Although I did not know what it was at the time, I began to feel other people’s sadness and pain. As a young child at primary school, I had a knowledge of things that had not yet happened. This was often quite unpleasant. I also began to experience claircognisence and clairsentience during these early years.

WHAT ARE YOUR TALENTS AND WHAT DO THEY MEAN?Clairvoyance means clear seeing—I sometimes have visions during readings. Claircognisence is a sense of knowing. This also happens in both face-to-face and phone readings with my clients—I’m able to see the outcome of the situation through psychic knowing. Clairsentience is all about feelings and empathy. It can manifest through tastes, smells, temperatures, the sensing of spirits, and advance knowledge about what will happen. Clairaudient experience are best described as an inner voice through which I hear my spirit guides directly.

WHAT TOOLS DO YOU USE AND WHY? WHAT IS THEIR HISTORY?

While tea leaf and palm reading originated in China, I inherited them from my Romany heritage. I also use coffee cup readings, which came from Cypriot or Turkish coffee, and also believed to have originated from tea leaf readings. My pendulum comes from

the ancient art of dowsing for water and oil—this tool is excellent for yes/no answers. Tarot some believe originated from Kabala/Church/playing cards. I’ve known how to read since touching my first deck. I tend to use Tarot to augment and clarify my clairvoyant experiences.

CAN YOU TELL US ONE REMARKABLE STORY FROM A RECENT CLIENT?

A woman once called me and asked about her career. As she spoke, I began to notice the smell of natural fragrances. The woman said she wanted to learn how to make crystal space clearing sprays, using natural aroma oils. Then I saw a salt lamp, and the client said she had been wanting to buy one for some time. Throughout the reading, I was able to tune into her and pick up on her attention to detail. She had very high standards!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT READING FOR CLEAR PSYCHICS?

They are an ethical company with total integrity, and have always been kind and polite to me. The team are warm, fair and well-mannered. I also appreciate that everyone who works for them is genuinely psychic. The company provides excellent support to both readers and clients. The clients themselves are wonderful and polite to me. P

Cumberbatchfor Christmas

Cumberbatch with partner Sophie Hunter

On December 19, 2012—just two days before the end of the Mayan calendar—Benedict Cumberbatch did not seem worried. In fact, he stood before hundreds of people at St George’s

Hanover Square in London and gave a heart-warming rendition of A Visit from St Nicholas, filling the halls of the church with his distinct voice. Doomsday predictions aside, he embraced the spirit of the season and lent his talents to a Christmas charity event.

Two years later, as the world was getting set for the 2014 holiday season, the actor gave legions of admirers something to cry about when he announced his engagement to theatre director and playwright Sophie Hunter. He also gave them something to cheer about with stellar performances in The Imitation Game and The Hobbit, both released during the Christmas season.

As it turns out, Benedict has another surprise in store for Christmas 2015. Following a hiatus of nearly two years from the tweed jacket and pipe, the star is returning to the role of Sherlock Holmes for a Christmas special produced by BBC.

So just what is it about Benedict Cumberbatch and Christmas? Even though the actor is tight-lipped about his personal beliefs (he has gone on record saying that he subscribes to the philosophy of Buddhism, and is “drawn to the transcendent”), he seems to have a good deal of Christmas spirit. There are even a considerable number of Christmas memes and videos created by fans—and they seem to be multiplying every year.

A look at the actor’s astrological profile does shed light on why he shines so brightly during the holiday season. Cumberbatch was born in London on the 19th of July, 1976, making him a Cancer in the Chinese Year of the Dragon. While this may not sound particularly Christmas-like, his chart does have three important planets—Mercury, Saturn and Venus—placed in Leo in the 11th house. This is the house most closely associated with charity and the collective mindset, while Leo is of course the sign of the spotlight.

Cumberbatch’s tendency to champion and speak out on important social issues is already well-known. Following his performance in The Imitation Game, he became a leading spokesperson for GLBT rights. He has also been a staunch and vocal critic of Great Britain’s political response to the Syrian refugee crisis. After his recent turn as a Massachusetts State Senator in Black Mass, some have gone so far as to speculate on a political future for Cumberbatch himself.

The actor brushes off this speculation, saying he is only grateful to be where he is today. That’s another important part of what endears him to fans and connects him to the Christmas season—a soft-spoken humility and good-natured humanity.

Whatever the reasons for Cumberbatch’s unique connection to the Christmas season, he shows no signs of slowing down. With his A-list status confirmed, and his choice of intriguing film roles on both sides of the Atlantic, we’re likely to see the actor in any number of highly-anticipated Christmas releases during the golden years of his career. And this December is particularly special for Cumberbatch—it’s his first Christmas as a father. His fiancee Sophie gave birth to a boy last June. With a brand new family and a soaring career, Benedict Cumberbatch is gearing up for a very happy Christmas indeed.

LIGHT OUT OF DARKNESS

In mythological and spiritual terms, the birth of a savior fits quite naturally with the shortest days of the year. Darkness is at its strongest, food supplies are more limited, and the weather is colder. But on December 21st, the scales tip back toward light. Out of deep darkness comes a promise of hope.

The ancient Babylonians, Egyptians, Arabians and Slavic peoples all considered the 24-25th of December to be the birthday of a divine personage or savior. In the case of Arabia, the moon herself was believed to have come into the world on this mysterious date.

For early leaders of the Christian church, the most obvious celebration would have been that of the Romans. Their Saturnalia festival, in honor of the god Saturn, was celebrated on the 21st of December every year—and if we could travel back in time to one of these celebrations, we would instantly be reminded of our own modern rituals. People threw banquets, feasts, parties, and even exchanged gifts. Further to this, the birth of the Roman god Mithra—who was said to be the mediator between man and God—was observed on December 25th.

A UNIFIED MESSAGE

When we look into the spiritual origins of Christmas, we see a profound theme of birth, light, renewal, hope, joy and inner awakening. The deeper we look, the clearer it becomes that the meaning of Christ’s birth in December is one of truly universal proportions. Many would argue that the same goes for the life and teachings of this incredible sage.

This December, consider the rich spiritual traditions that have played a part in what Christmas is today. The spiritual origins of this divine time of year are nothing less than a celebration of our own divine nature, and the eternal spiritual balance that unites us all.

T H E S P I R I T U A L O R I G I N S O F CHRISTMAS

Like many holiday traditions, Christmas is multi-dimensional. The history, ritual and symbolism of 25th December have evolved through countless cultures and religions across the globe, from Babylonia to ancient Rome to Scandinavia. This

fact does not take away from the principal reason for most Christmas celebrations today: The commemoration of Christ’s birth. It does, however, give us a chance to probe deeper into the spiritual origins of Christmas, to broaden our perspective, and to enhance our appreciation of the universal spiritual values it holds within it.

The simple truth is that nobody really knows when Christ was born. The Bible itself offers few clues, and historical scholars are widely divided on the subject. The only evidence we do have suggests that Christ was not born in December. A passage from the book of the Luke, for example, states that Shepherds were in the fields and watching over their flocks at the time of the divine birth. Historically speaking, Shepherds would not have been tending their flocks in the fields during the month of December—at least in that part of the world. Other pieces of anecdotal evidence have placed Christ’s birth in just about every season except Winter in the Northern hemisphere.

But the birth of a spiritual figure as profoundly important as Christ could not go uncelebrated simply because the date was unknown. When early church leaders were deciding where on the calendar to place the observance of Christ’s birth, they must have noticed the prevalence of Winter Solstice and pagan festivals already being celebrated throughout Europe and other parts of the world.

It’s difficult to prove whether these festivals were an important factor to make December 25th the official observance of Christ’s birth—but calling it a coincidence seems even more far-fetched. So what was the nature of these Solstice festivals, and how do they relate to the birth and life of Jesus Christ?

Holiday Karma

One of the greatest Christmas stories of all time—A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens—is really all about karma. Scrooge lives a miserly, penny-pinching life. He has no friends or loved ones. People shun him on the street,

and those brave enough to engage him in conversation are met with sharp reprimand. Following a nighttime visit from three otherworldly spirits, Scrooge is shown the karmic effects of his selfish ways—not only on those around him, but on Scrooge himself. In one harrowing vision, revealed by the Ghost of Christmas Future, Scrooge sees his own burial—an event that takes place on a cold, dark night and is not attended by a single soul.

Scrooge snaps out of it, as we all know—and when he does, the whole world opens up. As he begins to experience the power of charity and goodwill, he instantly attracts the love and goodwill of others. By the end of the story, the cheerless old man is overflowing with joy.

The classic Hollywood drama It’s A Wonderful Life is another exploration of the relationship between Christmas and karma. Our protagonist, George (played by a dashing young Jimmy Stewart), has a long history of being there when people need him most. He saves his brother from drowning at a young age, prevents his employer from making a terrible mistake, starts a housing project for the poor, and does everything he can to help those in need. Despite all this, fortune never seems to smile upon him. Distraught and disillusioned after a serious financial setback, he is visited by an angel who shows him what the world would have been like without him. He sees how his actions touched the lives of those around him, and is filled with hope and joy.

After that, his luck changes dramatically—just in time for Christmas.

The meaning of the word karma is to make, do or perform. In other words, karma means action. Although the word itself comes from Sanskrit language and Vedic philosophy, it is present in many religions. The command “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is a powerful expression of karmic law in the Christian teachings. Other faiths have their own way of saying the same thing: Our actions matter. They have spiritual, metaphysical effects—not only on the lives of others, but on our own lives.

Vedic philosophy in particular sees karma as a reflection of our own divine nature. It’s a force of cause and effect, and it depends entirely on us. Through our actions, we have the power to shape the world. We can choose to make it a place where people give to each other in selfless service, or a place where selfish interests rule supreme. As the Christmas stories above (not to mention countless spiritual teachers throughout history) tell us, selflessness is a lot more fun in the end. On a collective level, cultivating good karma is about the elevation of the human race as a whole.

Christmas is indeed a season when the timeless laws of karma seem heightened. It’s a season when people instinctively return to more interconnected way of life, in which charity and selflessness create a better world for everyone. It’s true that Christmas has always been about sharing special moments with those we hold dear. But it’s also about the stranger on the street. It’s about enlarging our psychic perception and seeing the interconnectivity of all things. In this way, Christmas truly is a window to the soul.
