PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
This week Mrs Karen Bradley and I attended
a conference in Sydney regarding the
Connected Communities Strategy, sharing
schools Best Practice.
Mrs Murray and I also attended an Early
Action for Success conference in Sydney on
Thursday 19th March regarding Inquiry
based learning.
I would like to wish all
our students and their
families a wonderful,
safe and happy Easter
Holidays.
NANGA MAI AWARD for MRS CLAPSON
Last week Mrs Clapson and I travelled to
Sydney to attend the prestigious education
awards. Mrs Clapson received an award for
her Outstanding Contribution to Educational
Achievement by a Non–Aboriginal Staff
Member. A very proud moment for Mrs
Clapson as she has worked tirelessly and is a
worthy recipient. Narelle has a passion for
“closing the gap” in learning outcomes for
Aboriginal students. She has known and
taught several generations of families dur-
ing her tireless service. Many of the stu-
dents now at TPS are
the grandchildren
and children of stu-
dents she has en-
gaged with in her
time as a teacher. Pictured—Mrs Clapson

cate.

NATIONAL DAY AGAINST BULLYING &
VIOLENCE / HARMONY DAY How proud the teachers were of the student’s during
Harmony Day activities. The effort they put into com-
pleting their tasks was excellent and the answers they
were able to give about why the day was so important
showed a great level of understanding. Mrs Deer’s class
ran a well organised assembly and allowed the children
to talk about and show the wonderful stories about
friendship that had been placed on the ‘Captain Care’
capes. The competition to see who could make the
longest friendship chain was won by 4/5/6D, but I
think if we looked at all the classes work it was really a
tie. Thank you to those parents/ grandparents and fam-
ily members who attended the assembly and helped
create a colourful environment with the chains in our
garden. It looked great, and the photos of the children
against the backdrop of chains and hands, also made by
the children, demonstrated just what harmony was
about. Take a bow Taree Public school community, you
were great! (Photos on page 5)
TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY’ A Department of Education and Communities initi-
ative.
Our surveys have been completed with an overall
completion rate of 86%. Thank you to those par-
ents who gave permission for their child/children
to participate. The student’s honest answers have
allowed the researchers to create a big picture of
Taree Public School, its strengths and areas that
need attention. We will be reporting on the find-
ings early in Term Two, but early indications have
shown an overwhelming agreement by the children
on the positives of school as well as some encour-
aging reports about student wellbeing, engagement
and effective teaching practices.
EASTER HAT PARADE What a wonderful successful day, all the students
had a great day
and displayed
some awesome
Easter hats. Well
Done. Photos of
the event will be
in our next news-
letter.

INTENSIVE SWIMMING RECOUNTS Below are 4 recounts from students in class
2/3V—Guparr about the Intensive Swimming.
Over the last two weeks year 2 to year 6 have
been learning swimming at the Aquatic Centre.
First we went to get dressed, then we went down
to the silver seats. On the bus we played spotto.
Year 2 to year 6 learnt back stroke and we learnt
safety rules.
I like going swimming it was fun. I went on a slide
it was fun. We all got to have a free swim.
-By Braye.
Over the last two weeks year 2 to year 6 went
swimming to the Aquatic centre.
First we went to get dressed and we went on the
bus. Then we went to get off the bus and we had
to line up. Next we went inside and we went to
the side of the pool. We went in the pool and we
had to hold onto the side and we went to the deep
end. After we went to the silver seats and we had
to get on the bus and we played spotto. Finally I
had fun at the pool and I left the pool and we
went back to the school and we had to go up-
stairs.

Over the last 2 weeks year 2 to year 6 are doing
swimming training at the Aquatic centre. First we
got dressed and waited to get our name called
out. Then we talked about water safety and we
got in our groups. Next we started swimming back

and forwards from ten down to five rows. Af-
ter that we had some games.
Finally we got out of the water. It was fun!
-By Nathan.
Two weeks ago from year 2 and year 6 started
swimming lessons at the Taree Aquatic Centre.
First all the girls in year 2 and year 3 went in-
to an old classroom to get dressed. The boys
also had to go into a classroom. Then we had
to get our lunch and line up at the door down
stairs. One of the teachers called out the kids
that were going. Only the kids that paid money
can go swimming at the Taree Aquatic Centre.
When we arrived at the pool all of the kids had
to sit down on the ground so the swimming
teachers could tell us all of the rules. Then we
had to sit on the side of the pool with our legs
in the water. One of the swimming teachers
came over and helped us swim over to the
swimming rope and back. Javyne, Sarah, Jacob,
Josh, Nathan, Sean and Brendon were in my
group. Our swimming teachers name was Bec.
My group had to get a board and jump in the
water and kick our legs. After that we had to
get on the bus and go back to school. I had
fun!
