Ground-breaking.Many loudspeaker manufacturers use inexpensive plastic mould-ings to benefit the manufacturing process, but Tannoy hasabandoned this approach with the Mercury range of loudspeakers. We’ve opted to maximise performance by using solid woodmaterial for the cabinet construction, including a substantialMDF front baffle.Nor does Mercury use small, inexpensive bass and treble units. We’ve gone for something more substantial. So the bass is rich and powerful. The sound is dynamic, clear andaccurate. Acoustics are as natural as the original recording. One listen and you’ll know precisely what we’re talking about.

Wide-ranging.The Tannoy Mercury range offers a choice of loudspeakersfor hi-fi or home cinema applications of truly outstandingperformance and value.

m1 “Superb bass from boxes sosmall; plenty of punch and noshortage of clarity.”

m2 “These speakers out-performeverything in their class andthen go on to stomp all over thenext league up.”

m2.5“Revised Mercuries even hotter...improve on the original m2s

with better punch and greatertreble clarity; excellent value formoney.”

m3 “Wonderfully cohesive andmusical sound... these floor-standers set new standards ofdetail and control at the price.”

mC “Excellent performance... per-haps the best affordable centrespeaker.”

Critic-pleasing.Naturally, at Tannoy, we think our Mercury speakers are brilliant–but what does the hi-fi press say?

m1 ▼

Countless international hi-fi pressreviews have sung the praises of thisnow classic budget hi-fi speaker.Earlier this year, the m1 achieved theaccolade of the EISA 1998/99European Loudspeaker of the Year. Atits price, a truly remarkable hi-fispeaker which is also perfect as asurround speaker in more powerfulhome cinema systems.

m2 ▼

Tremendous dynamics and powerhandling are assured due to the165mm bass driver’s substantialmagnet assembly. The m2 is equally athome as part of either a budget or ahigh end hi-fi. The stable impedancecharacteristic also makes this model theideal solution for upgrading a mini ormidi audio system.

m2.5 ▼

The Mercury m2.5 is essentially a very special, upgraded m2. Cabinetconstruction, drive unit build andpositioning, terminal panel materialsand crossover components have allbeen carefully scrutinised. Wherebeneficial, changes have been made inorder to make the best even better.

m3A perfectly proportioned, slim, tallfloor standing loudspeaker which is soeasy to drive, even the smallest of hi-fiamplifiers will deliver a big sound.Deep, tuneful bass and crisp trebledetail with high power handlingcapability are the hallmarks of the m3.An ideal speaker for larger rooms.

Standard-setting.You need to examine the m2.5 as closely as our engineers did, inorder to appreciate the attention-to-detail this model has received. Many of the enhancements are hidden right inside the cabinet. Our team of acoustics experts, working with cost constraintsremoved, re-assessed each component of the original m2 and wherepossible, upgraded it to improve the acoustic performance.Of course, the most rewarding way to experience these improve-ments is to sit back, listen and enjoy.

Additional mass on underside of top panel to dampen resonance

LF driver overlaps HF to bring acoustic centres closer together

Lighter-weight two layer voice coil resulting in improved midband performance

Additional magnet on back of main magnet to improvesensitivity and damping

Magnet ‘Lossy-coupled’ tobrace with mastic material

providing exceptional rigidity

Brace provides rigidity andcontrols cabinet resonance

Binding post nuts fitted with brass inserts, improving

signal path integrity

Instead of a resistor, a moreexpensive auto-transformer used in crossover improves

control and damping of HF by amplifier

Longer port tube tuning system lower than original m2

mRPre-fitted to the rear panel ofthe mR are four multi-hangersallowing the speakers to beeasily flush-mounted to a wall. This thoughtful design allowsthem to be inverted (see picture)when positioned high on a wall, providing ideal acoustic couplingwith the room environment. Theirneat, compact design makes themthe perfect solution for reareffects/surround applications.

mSUB10With its powerful 250mm lowfrequency driver the new mSUB10150 watt active subwoofer offers home cinema enthusiastshigh performance extended bass. The compact unit provides theflexibility of line level or speakerinputs. Input level control and aphase invert switch ensure thatyou can easily fine tune the bassfrequencies to the rest of thesystem.

mCThe acoustic characteristic ofthe mC centre channel speaker isperfectly matched to the rest ofthe Mercury models ensuringprecise tonal balance and clarity. In addition to full magneticshielding, heavy gauge steel platewithin the cabinet provides extrastability when placed on thecurved top surface of manymodern televisions.

mMThe new mM (Mercury Main) isa floor standing design utilisingtwo 130mm bass drivers – idealfor the additional bass dynamicand power handling require-ments of good quality homecinema. If you like your music atmoderate to high volumes orconsider yourself a bit of a partyanimal – you won’t be disap-pointed.
