To prevent damage to your property, keep items five feet away from your trash cart, mailbox, fences or walls, water meter, telephone connection box and parked cars. Do not place any items under low hanging tree limbs or power lines.Do not put items in bags, boxes or other containers. Bulk collection is for items too large to fit in containers. Bags will be treated as extra trash and are subject to extra trash fees.

Separate Items into Three Piles:Metal items - Includes appliances (remove doors). These are taken to

our Resource Recovery Center for recycling.Passenger car tires - Rims must be removed. Limit of eight tires per household. We cannot collect truck or tractor tires. Tires will go to a tire recycling facility.Non-metal items - Includes carpeting and nail-free lumber. These items go to a landfill.Austin Resource Recovery is working

on plans to salvage reusable items from bulk collection to help meet the City of Austin’s Zero Waste goal.

Got an old refrigerator or freezer taking up space in your house or

garage? Consider selling it to Austin Energy! They will pay you $50 for each old, standard-size (between 14-27 cubic feet), working refrigerator or freezer; limit two per customer. Just call 1-800-452-8685 to arrange for a pick up.

To date, Austin Energy has collected more than 24,000 of these energy guzzlers. Next to heating, cooling and hot water, refrigerators and freezers use more electricity than any other home appliance. Refrigerators that are at least 15 years old use about twice the electricity of today’s new energy-efficient models.

Imagine thousands of volunteers joining together on an ordinary

Saturday morning to make an extraordinary difference. Each April, Keep Austin Beautiful hosts Clean Sweep, a city-wide service day spanning 140 sites in 31 zip codes throughout Austin and resulting in over 76 tons of trash removed and more than 35,400 hours contributed. The network of cleanups is followed by a not-to-be-missed volunteer party and environmental fair that features free lunch, live music, a climbing wall, children’s environmental activities, recycled art, a unique object contest, fantastic door prizes, and more!

Sitting on the sidelines gives you a great view of our beautiful City, but becoming a Clean Sweep leader gives you the gratification of knowing you are helping to keep our City clean

and vibrant. The Board of Directors is seeking volunteers to lead a Clean Sweet project in Tanglewood. Contact Pinnacle Texas by phone at 512-795-8461 or via email at [email protected] if you are interested in leading a group of volunteers in a Tanglewood Clean Sweet project. KAB will provide cleanup supplies, trash collection, and help recruit and register all the extra volunteers you need. Are you not ready to lead a site, but still interested in volunteering? General volunteer registration is available on the website.

Become a Sponsor – Find out more information about how your business can become a 2013 Clean Sweep Sponsor, donate door prizes, or provide cleanup supplies by visiting the Clean Sweep Sponsor page or calling 512-391-0619.
