The Zhonghe Line leads from Taipei into the districts of Yonghe and Zhonghe in New Taipei City. These areas are densely populated,

in shop signs, foods, and festival activities. They're well worth a visit.

A Multicultural Center

Travel RouteTo explore this area, we recommend rst taking the ZhongheLine to Dingxi Station in Yonghe District and strolling around nearby "Korea Street" (Zhongxing Street), where you can shop for Korean goods. Next, check out the Museum of World Religions, then take the MRT to Nanshijiao Station for an exotic meal at Zhonghe's "Myanmar Street" (Huaxin Street), followed by a visit to Hongludi, home to a huge statue of the Earth God.

Nanshijiao

A gourmet map of Zhonghe Line could be divided into two parts: one by Dingxi Station and one by Nanshijiao Station. Close to Dingxi Station is the famous World Soybean Milk Magnate, opened in 1955,

Besides the traditional sesame seed cakes and youtiao (long sticks of fried dough), the restaurant serves Hong Kong-style shumai (pork dumplings), Malaysian honeycomb cakes, and around 30 other snacks. A 10-minute walk from Dingxi Station, Lehua Night Market is located at Yongping Road, where there are leather goods sellers, clothing stores, and Taiwanese food stalls.

Zhonghe's "Myanmar Street" (Huaxin Street), not far from Nanshijiao Station, is about half a kilometer long, boasting over a dozen Myanmareateries, such as the renowned Golden Dragon Cafeteria (60 Huaxin St.) and Lee Garden Halal Eatery (9 Huaxin St.), oering authentic fare at reasonable prices. And not far from Nanshijiao Station is the well-laid-out Xingnan Night Market on Xinyi Street, with a variety of stalls to choose from.

If it's a gift you're after, be sure not to miss the traditional cakes and pastries of Lao Shun Xiang, classic products made by shops that have operated for more than a century.

Travel Route

When vis i t ing Xinzhuang and Sanchong by MRT the main recommended area is that around Temple Street in Xinzhuang. No matter if it's temples to visit, an old street to explore or foods of the ordinary people to enjoy, the area has it all. It's recommended that you arrive around noon and eat lunch locally, then explore the old street at a leisurely pace in the afternoon. At dusk you can have dinner at Sanhe Night Market next to Taipei Bridge on your return journey.

Temples and Old Streets – Historical CharmThe MRT's Xinzhuang Line runs through the districts of Xinzhuang and Sanchong. Xinzhuang's convenient location next to the Tamsui River made it one of the rst parts of the Taipei area to develop. It prospered due to trade in the reigns of the Qianlong and Jiaqing emperors in the Qing Dynasty but its fortunes faded as the river silted up and the commercial center of the Taipei area moved elsewhere. The old streets, historic temples, and numerous long-established stores form its enchanting historic scenery today. Walking the old streets allows visitors to get close to people's daily

Xinzhuang Temple Street is also known as Xinzhuang Old Street. With a histor y spanning more than 300 years, the street is lined with almost ten temples on a short stretch of a few hundred meters, among them Ciyou Temple, Dazhong Temple, Wenchang Temple, Wusheng Temple, and Guangfu Temple. All are heritage sites still thriving as local religious and community hubs. The street also has many century-old shops, including Lao Shun Xiang Bakery, Ririyong Blacksmith Shop and the Xiangrenhe Drum Arts Workshop (Xiangrenhe Clock and Drum Workshop), all precious and increasingly rare examples of traditional industries. When night falls the lights come on around Xintai Road as a boisterous night-market comes to life, selling shoes, decorations, toys, knick-knacks, tasty snacks and other foods. Close to Temple Street are also numerous smaller lanes and alleys with a rich history, including Theater Lane, Water-Carrying Lane, and Rice Market Lane. It is the symbol of Nanshan Fude Temple, a mecca for believers wishing to change their luck with money. It attracts a large number of worshippers throughout the year. Along the road from the foot of the hill to the temple there are numerous fortune telling stalls, making it a veritable fortune telling street. Myanmar Street/Korea Street (緬甸街/韓國街)

(Nanshijiao, Dingxi)

The districts of Zhonghe and Yonghe, served by the Zhonghe Line of the MRT, are immigrant cities; the concentration of overseas Chinese from Myanmar in the Huaxin Street area of Zhonghe led to the formation of “ Myanmar Street,” a street with a pronounced southeast Asian feel; quite a few overseas Chinese from South Korea live on Zhongxing Street in Yonghe and “ Korea Street,” a street with numerous shops selling Korean goods, developed. Myanmar Street and Korea Street can be said to be microcosms of the immigrant communities in Zhonghe and Yonghe respectively, both streets having an exotic atmosphere, attracting many visitors who travel specially to taste the exotic cuisine available or to buy imported goods.Myanmar Street: Huaxin St., Zhonghe District, New Taipei City ( 新北市中和區華新街 )Getting there: Get o at Nanshijiao Station; followXingnan Rd., and turn left into Huaxin St.
