CLEARWATER- July 2, 2013 – Nature’s Food Patch is proud to announce they have been selected as one of the top 12 Right-To-Know grocers in the United States by the Organic Retail and Consumer Alliance (ORCA). Out of 156 customer nominations, Nature’s Food Patch was chosen to be part of the “diligent dozen.” The top 12 stores were chosen to honor those companies which were transparent about their GMO labeling on items carried in-store. These stores are considered to be pioneers in the area of truthful labeling, and are seen as encouragement to other grocers to provide transparent labeling as well.

Nature’s Food Patch employs GMO researcher Patience Melton, who is responsible for researching all products to verify if genetically modified organisms are present, as well as educating employees and consumers on GMOs. If a product is found to contain GMOs, Patience will actively seek out alternatives to find a non-GMO replacement for those items. If there are no alternatives for a product containing GMOs, these products will be labeled as GMO on the pricetag in the store to ensure customer awareness.

Genetically Modified Organisms are plants or animals derived from genetic engineering. One example is commercial GMO foods that are engineered to withstand direct contact with insecticide. While many countries around the world have significant restrictions or outright bans on GMOs, in the US, the government has approved the sale of GMOs, and it lies in the hands of consumers and grocers to educate themselves and actively opt out of purchasing GMOs.

About Nature’s Food PatchNature‘s Food Patch Market & Café (est. 1987) is a

community grocery store located on Cleveland Street in Clearwater, FL and is dedicated to offering a complete selection of quality organic and natural products. The store has been enthusiastically embraced by the health minded community and is known for its commitment to organic foods, quality natural products, community involvement and health education. After

Throat cancer was killing me. How could this happen to me? I eat 90% organic. I consume no sugar. I have an active life style. I am doing everything right. Of course, 50 years of smoking cigars might have a great deal to do with it. Yes, I quit 15 years ago, but the damage had already been done. The slow build up of symptoms didn’t alert me to my situation until I had achieved a stage four squamous cell carcinoma at the base of my tongue. The tumor was so aggressive it grew out of the side of my throat.

That was a year ago. I followed the same protocol we prescribe for our patients, and now the cancer is gone. I contribute our success to a total life style change and Ozone therapy. Because injectable Ozone therapy is illegal

in this country, we modified the program used in other countries to allow us to use it here at the Sentient Temple Healing Center. We have this therapy available here now

for only $25 a treatment. The benefits of Ozone Transdermal Therapy is miraculous. Transdermal Ozone, also known as Hyperthermic Ozone and Transcutaneous Ozone Therapy, is a method in which Ozone is introduced into the body via the skin while sitting in a hot steam cabinet. As the pores of the skin open as a result of being surrounded by the warm steam, Ozone enters the body transdermally (i.e. via the skin).

The Ozone then penetrates the blood, lymph and fat. By allowing Ozone in, and toxins out, via the sweating process that is induced, Transdermal Ozone Therapy is one of the most powerful methods of detoxifying and oxygenating the body in existence. This accounts for the effect that heat stress has in killing cancer. Both heat stress and Ozone kill cancer so this treatment offers the best

opportunity to eliminate cells which are

fermenting sugar anerobically, halt

metastasis and restore healthy aerobic

function.

Call the Sentient Temple Healing Center for your appointment

and evaluation. Lose weight, reduce pain, and cure

your cancer with proven methods usedin Europe and Mexico.

lifeWorks Offers special on Ozone therapy

LifeWorks Wellness Center is unique in Tampa Bay for offering a wide range of treatments using ozone therapy, and is achieving some remarkable results with it.

In medical use, ozone is made by passing pure oxygen through an electric coil which gives it three atoms, instead of two, making it O3. It is the addition of the third oxygen atom that makes ozone “supercharged” oxygen, and gives it all of its remarkable medical properties.

LifeWorks’ co-founder and Medical Director, Dr. David Minkoff explains, “ozone therapy is becoming widely recognized as one of the most effective treatments for many conditions, ranging from infection to poor circulation to gastrointestinal disorders. We are very excited to see the positive results our patients are experiencing with this therapy.”

For the month of August, LifeWorks is offering new patients an exclusive discount of $75 off a consultation with Dr. Minkoff, to be cleared to begin ozone therapy.

This offer is valid from August 1-30, 2013 and applies to new patients only.

Call Tamora at 727-466-6789 for more information. About the clinic visit www.lifeworkswellnesscenter.com. LifeWorks is located at 301Turner Street, Clearwater, FL.

When I first became a mom in 2001, no one told me that my life would change forever. I went from being

the carefree Maiden, traveling on a whim and meeting my needs whenever I felt like it, to a grounded and compassionate Mother. It is in this Mother phase where the “I” now became

“We.” Every action, word and thought is now about my children and husband. I no longer could be the selfish Maiden. I had now grown into the compassionate Mother.

Nursing my children (now on my third) connects our root chakras (energy centers) together assisting me in being a grounded parent (okay maybe a slave to the couch) and also helps the new spirit of the baby to recognize its new Earthly realm. Those babies have a hard time transitioning from the spirit world to their new lives and nursing is an integral part in this transition.

The Mother aspect effects us all whether we birth babies or not. There is a time in our lives where we give more than we take. The Goddess Kuan Yin, the Mahakaruna (great compassionate one), demonstrates this Mother phase in our lives best of all. She is ready without reservation to extend peace, joy, love and every divinely good thing to anyone who reaches out to her. As you pour your heart’s resources out to the world, you connect to the divine Mother.

Opening your heart to compassionate action isn’t easy. It took a couple of years for me to transition from Maiden to Mother. First you whine a little, “I have no time for me.” “I feel stuck over here.” Then you may break down completely (postpartum depression). Eventually you see the spiritual side to it all—the greater picture involved. You are now raising the children of the Earth’s future. These children watch you with a close eye and mimic everything you do and say. The “do as I say not as I do” rule doesn’t apply to this new generation of children. They are on to us, watching our every move.

As a child raised in the 70’s I marched to the beat of my own drum. Though raised in an organized religion, I didn’t let its “rules” encompass me. I quickly grew to understand I was different from most, and I had friends that loved me for who I was. What was it Bette Midler said? “If I had known that my quirkiness as a child were such assets in my adult life, I would

have loved myself more.” The school system was another place where I wouldn’t let authority figures rain on my parade. I could see through untruths of what I was told and went more on what I “felt”. Little did I know that I was developing my intuition.

I was what you call an Indigo Child. The wave of children coming to the planet whose spirit bodies are of a higher vibration. The term Indigo is referring to the color of the person’s energy field or aura. Indigos are portrayed as the warrior spirit, quashing the old ways and making way for the new energies to come to Earth. Most Indigos then give birth to Crystal and sometimes Rainbow Children (also reflected in their auras)--an even higher vibration of spirits that open our hearts to compassion. They assist the entire Earth in undergoing this Mother phase of our existence. We are all, in some way, becoming more like the Indigo and Crystal people. They are here to show us the way, and so the information can be applied more generally to all of us as we make the transition to the next stage of our growth and evolution.

Our vibration can change from Indigo to Crystal to eventually Rainbow. The Rainbow people are the original inhabitants of the Earth. Those beings who created pyramids and other wonders and whose bodies were completely open and connected to the Divine. Those who carry the Indigo Rays, are also gifted as the

“mothers” and “goddesses” of the planet, and carry the feminine

vibration of healing and nurturing. The generations prior to the Indigos

and Crystals had the ability to pretend that everything was great even if it wasn’t. The new children don’t have the option of going into denial. They feel others’ emotions as if they were their own. As parents, we must be sensitive to their needs and keep their home environments free from conflicts.

So let’S break theSe down.

IndIgo ChIldren

The Indigo Children have been incarnat ing on t he Earth for the last 100 years. In the 1970s a major wave of Indigos was born. They are some early indigos born before that and late bloomers born up until around 2000. Indigos are often mislabeled with psychiatric diagnoses of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Sadly, when they are medicated, the Indigos often lose their beautiful sensitivity, spiritual gifts and warrior energy. Their intense energy is needed to change the world for the better. Indigos are unable to conform to dysfunctional situations at home, work, or school. They don’t have the ability to dissociate from their feelings and pretend like everything’s okay...unless they are medicated or sedated.

Characteristics of an Indigo child

• They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it).

• They have a feeling of “deserving to be here,” and are surprised when others don’t share that.

• Self-worth is not a big issue. They often tell the parents “who they are.”

• They have difficulty with absolute authority (authority without explanation or choice).

• They simply will not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them.

• They get frustrated with systems that

are ritually oriented and don’t require creative thought.

• They often see better ways of doing

things, both at home and in school, which makes them seem like “system busters” (nonconforming to any system).

• They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind. If there are no others of like consciousness around them, they often turn inward, feeling like no other human understands them. School is often extremely difficult for them socially.

• They will not respond to “guilt” discipline (“Wait till your father gets home and finds out what you did”).

• They are not shy in letting you know what they need.

• They are clairvoyant and can “see” right through dishonesty.

note: Some children suffer from ADD-like symptoms because of chemicals and dyes added to foods and products geared for children. Removing these from their diet is a necessity. Read my online article on ADD to learn more.

CryStal ChIldren

The Crystal Children began to appear on the planet from about 2000, although some date them slightly earlier. These are extremely powerful children, whose main purpose is to take us to the next level in our evolution. They function as a group

consciousness rather than as individuals, and they live by the law that we are all one. They are a powerful force for love

and peace on the planet. M a ny of t he Cr y s t a l

C h i l d r e n h a v e d e l a y e d speech patterns, and it’s not uncommon for them to wait until they’re 3 or 4 years old to begin speaking. Parents communicate by engaging in mind-to-mind communication with their Crystal Children. Crystals use a combination of telepathy, self-fashioned sign language, and sounds (including song) to get their point across. These children are often labeled as Autistic.

The Crystal Children have strong connections to the energy of the earth, nature and the moon and stars. Crystals

find beauty in nature’s details. Crystals benefit most from an outdoor excursion. It can be an instant mood elevator if your Crystal Child acts grumpy.

Crystal Children have the following characteristics.

• They possess large eyes with an intense stare.

• They have magnetic personalities.• They are highly affectionate.• They start talking late in childhood.• They are very musically oriented, and

may sing before talking.• Crystals use telepathy and self-

invented sign language to communicate.• They may be diagnosed with Autism

or Asperger’s syndrome.• Crystals are even-tempered, sweet,

and loving.• They are forgiving of others.• They are highly sensit ive and

empathetic.• They are very much connected to

nature and animals.• Crystals exhibit healing abilities.• They are quite interested in crystals

and rocks.• They often discuss angels, spirit

guides and past-life memories.• Crystals are extremely artistic and

creative.• They prefer vegetarian meals and

juices to “regular food”.• They may be fearless explorers and

climbers, with an amazing sense of balance.

• Crystals are sensitive to loud noise.• Crystals are sensitive to crowds.• They are sensitive to temperature.• They are sensitive to clutter and

disorganization.• Crystals are sensitive to chaotic

environments.• Crystals are sensitive to artificial

ingredients and chemicals.

raInbow ChIldren

The Rainbow Children seem to be here to implement the Divine Will; they will use their strong will and energy to build the new world on the foundation of peace and harmony the Crystal Children are laying down. The Crystal Children are only able to lay down that foundation because the Indigo Children have already forged the path and broken down all of the old barriers! There is a pattern that is emerging within the soul groups of children that are coming into this world, and as we watch them, we can get a very good idea of where our world is headed. Most Rainbow Children are still evolving and haven’t reached their full rainbow potential.

Characteristics of a rainbow Child are as follows.

• Rainbows have very strong wills and personalities.

• They are very high energy.• Rainbows are attuned to color and

color vibrations around them.• They have passionate creativity.• They love bright clothing and colorful

environments.• R a i nbows bubble over w it h

enthusiasm for everything in life.• They expect instant manifestation of

whatever they think/need.• Rainbows have healing abilities.• They also have telepathy.

ParentIng the IndIgo, CryStal and raInbow ChIldren

There are many of you who are parenting Indigo, Crystal and/or Rainbow children. You may be anxious about how to raise these children and whether you are doing it “right” for them. These children are stronger, more powerful and often more energetic than other children. They have chosen their families for reasons. You parents are destined to help them lead the future New Earth.

These children are hard work. As a parent you wil l be chal lenged to accelerate your own personal growth. Your parenting skills will be questioned in every way. Part of their “mission” is to teach you how to parent in loving, wise and compassionate ways. Very few of you were parented in this way. Not because your parents were unloving, but because they knew no better. They drew on models of parenting based on fear and conformity. Your children come to show you how to put aside these patterns and create new ones.

As Parents, know that your work is so vital to the planet’s future. Every day you are helping to create the New Earth. So, be at peace with your efforts and know that your children value what you do, as they value you and your work. The future generations of Crystal and Rainbow people will honor you as the wise elders who created the New Earth Archetypes for others to follow.

here’s some advice for parents:

• Pray: Ask for higher assistance when you are irritated.

• Understand that they are visual – right-brain dominant people have visual memories instead of language-based ones. They’ll memorize how spelling words

“look” instead of how they sound.• Explain don’t force - forcing leads to

power struggles. Compromising is better.• Attachment parenting – This is

a philosophy that advises parents to

physically and emotionally bond with their child through sensitive response when the child cries, breastfeeding, carrying the infant in a baby sling, sleeping with the child and providing a gentle home environment.

• Live and let live – allow your child to be who they are. When they come home from school angry, they are tired of being caged up all day. Let them run and feel their emotions.

• Take care of yourself – Engage in yoga or meditation to become aware of your own divine guidance.

• Talk to, not down – They dislike patronization. Have discussions on friendly levels.

• Chanting and peaceful music – These are excellent ways to get your kids to wind down after a busy day.

• Schooling – Parents are best to homeschool or at least school additionally after school. When parents help these children study, they see immediate results.

• Pay attention and tell the truth – These kids don’t like to be ignored. They can always tell if you lie or bend the truth. Always keep your promise.

• Have patience.• Show consistency.• Learn from them.

Good luck on your parenting journey of these incredible beings of light.

As ‘back to school’ rapidly approaches, many parents are making inquiries about keeping their kids healthy during the school year. This boils down to questions such as: What sort of meals and snacks should they be eating? How do I get them to make healthier choices? Well, the answers are simple: the same meals, snacks, and healthier choices as you, fluff ball. You are the parent - take the lead.

Seriously. It’s entertaining to have conver-sations with parents who disassociate their eating habits from those of their kids. Nu-tritional habits are formed in the household, within the family unit. As parents, it’s critical to take as much responsibility as possible for ensuring the nutritional habits formed will be beneficial for life. Nutrition forms the foun-dation for childhood growth and development, which then sets the stage for adulthood. We want healthy kids, then healthy adults, free of diseases related to:

1. Excess body fat2. Compromised gut health3. Immune compromise4. Chronic inflammation

As a society, we’re knee deep in trouble right now. About 33% of kids ages 6-11 are over-weight or obese, compared to 7% in 1980. Obese young women really break my heart, as reversing this once the mid-20’s roll around is a very challenging task. As it stands right now, about 36% of young women are considered obese. I’ve met many of these women, who are often depressed about themselves, how they feel and look, and upset about the uphill battle they face. Obesity leads to disruption of the thyroid and adrenal glands, cholesterol dysregulation, sleep disorders, metabolic dis-turbances, and many conditions that can be traced to chronic inflammation and hormone disruption.

Doomsday stuff aside, let’s look at the sunny side of things. We are all capable of giving the young ones around us a boost, getting them going on the right track. Variables with-in our control include:

1. The ability (and responsibility!) to involve kids in strength training (along with other sports).

2. The ability (and responsibility) to greatly influence nutritional choices.

LIFT BABY, LIFT!

Studies show that kids involved in resis-tance training and nutritional programs im-prove self-perception, gain lean muscle mass, strength, endurance, and not surprisingly, self confidence. Resistance training has been found to improve mental well-being, while teaching physical and emotional discipline. Look around your area for a good “Kids Cross Fit” Gym, and/or a local gym offering kids strength training classes.

I LOOK UP TO YOU, MOM AND DAD, I’LL EAT WHAT YOU EAT.

Indeed! If your kids have survived till this point on Ding Dong’s and frozen pizza, it’s because you have, too. However, now is the time to stop this. Slowly but surely, replace your Lucky Charms with blueberries and Greek Yogurt, your pop tarts with apples and almond butter, and your frozen dinners with shredded chicken, veggies, and salsa. Smack yourself for buying Kellogg’s Honey Smacks and don’t do it anymore (this cereal leads the list of “10 Worst Children’s Cereals” based on sugar by weight). Throw away your OJ, blend up protein smoothies instead. Keep on hand plenty of foods like avocado, berries, hummus, chopped carrots, protein-packed homemade cookies, home made granola, nut butters, varieties of grass-fed jerky, cooked meats, eggs and seafood. Take the junky stuff out of the house.

My experience with kids (Gabby and Ma-tias!!) back when they were 5 & 3, was that they loved healthy stuff as long as they were involved. Involved in grocery shop-ping, washing and chopping veggies, putting stuff in bowls, etc. Anything I ate or drank, they wanted as well, which included protein smoothies, eggs, vegetables, fruits, and meats and seafood of all kind. If you want your kids to enjoy the healthy transition, get, and keep them involved.

QUICK THOUGHTS ON SUPPLEMENTS.

Generally speaking, a few key supplements for kids include vitamin D (about 600IU/day), fish oil (about 500mg-1g/day EPA/DHA), and magnesium (about 500mg/day). Greens + powders and protein powders combine to make great smoothies (I use Genuine Health, and Douglas Labs products whenever pos-sible). Sports nutrition supplements are also beneficial for kids – but this is a topic for an-other article.

WRAP IT UP.

To sum, my belief based on a bit of experi-ence and common sense is that your kids habits reflect yours, so you need to change yours first. Get yourself involved in a strength training and nutritional program, and involve your kids. If you don’t have kids, grab a few and get going. Remove junk food from your house, and establish healthy eating patterns with the best food possible. Get this party started!!

Last month, we introduced you to the idea that many of the things we have been taught about food are incorrect, and we exposed Myth #1 of the 7 Diet Myths.

This month we will look at a few of the realities and facts about Myth #2.

Myth #2: Low-Fat and Fat-Free foods are better for weight loss and heart health, and to help lower cholesterol.

reality #2: Diet foods substitute sugar and/or artificial sweeteners for fat, creating health problems and making it harder to lose weight!

Eliminating fat from your diet will cause weight gain. Here are the facts:

Fact #1:

Low-fat and fat-free foods are higher in sugars, which cause blood sugar levels to spike, which will cause insulin to spike and cause you to STORE FAT for 8 hours. You cannot burn fat while storing fat – it is an “either/or” switch in your body. This is discussed in much more detail in audio training, “12 Easy Ways to Burn Fat.”

Fact #2:

Whole milk (full fat) dairy products are lower in sugars, and the fat causes a slower insulin response so you will BURN FAT. Insulin is a hormone that carries sugar from the blood into your cells for energy. When your cells have enough sugar, and there is excess sugar remaining

in the blood, insulin converts the sugar into fat and cholesterol. It then stores the cholesterol in your blood vessels creating cardio vascular disease, and the fat on your body. This contributes to obesity.

See how this is the opposite of what we’ve been taught?

This is why the Atkins Diet, South Beach Diet, and others work – at least until you go off them. These diets apply the facts of endocrinology – the study of hormones – so this makes sense to most physicians. However, these diets miss a key point – they do not address the QUALITY of the foods included in their daily food plans, and will typically allow too much animal protein in the diet. This can become problematic if you are not eating enough high quality organic produce.

Fact #3:

Foods that are low-fat and fat-free tend to be processed. When they remove the fat, like with fat-free flavored yogurt, as an example, sugars increase, as well as chemicals designed to make them taste better, and artificial sweeteners are included to make them sweet.

These types of foods will cause weight gain because of the liver stress, pancreas stress, and adrenal gland stress. These stressors adversely affect both blood sugar and blood pressure; and increase cholesterol levels. Why? The liver is your main detoxifying organ; the pancreas has two parts – one produces enzymes to break down (digest) your food; the other

secretes (releases) insulin to control your blood sugar. As you may recall, your adrenal glands manage stress of every kind.

Artificial sweeteners also trick your brain and body into thinking you are hungry, triggering intense sugar and simple carbohydrate cravings, causing you to need to eat more bread, pasta, cereal, chips, cookies, cake, ice cream, candy and other starches and sugary foods.

The roles of the liver, pancreas and adrenal glands in both gaining and losing weight are also discussed in detail in the audio training “12 Easy Ways to Burn Fat.”

Next month we will reveal Myth #3!

mind By Laura Delle Donne-schmidt, LMHC

Almost everyone can remember a time when watching a tv commercial or listening to a radio jingle and thinking

“what were they thinking, this is silly or it just doesn’t make any sense”. But at a later time and much to your surprise, you found yourself humming that silly jingle or repeating the TV slogan automatically, without consciously realizing it.

Actually, the advertising industry really does know what they’re doing and is utilizing a basic principle for memory enhancement. They are masters at making nonsensical associations and pairing other sensory specific detail so you can easily remember their product. Not only do you remember the product but you remember many things they want you to remember or identify with their product vs their competitor.

For example, if I would mention “the little green looking lizard”, you know it’s not really an insurance company but the association is immediate. Moreover, there are many layers that are associated like he’s small, cute, approachable, easy to listen to with that accent and he’s a nice jovial fellow! After a few repetitions of the visual and auditory stimuli, and the overall good feeling the little guy gives off, who wouldn’t want to give them a call and try them out.

Basica l ly, our minds are mult i faceted and conduct many functions simultaneously. Also, our brains are capable of storing infinite amounts of info and data. Like in the above example

with the gecko, this is easier to accomplish when you give the “thing” you want to remember more sensory specific detail or info that the mind can essentially grab onto. It was also why learning the alphabet was easier as a musical rhyme as a kid.

The beautiful part is that kids can do this instinctively and do so especially when they are at play. It’s how they learn. Kids are creative and use their imaginations in ways that adults have forgotten. They are used to engaging their senses through play and creativity to navigate and make sense of their world.

So as a parent, you can help your child to adapt this instinct while in school or at home doing homework. This will make learning more fun and an opportunity to positively engage with your child.

Step one: have them think about what it represents to them-association

Step two: have them picture or visualize in their mind’s eye-sensory

Step 3: have them note something about it that stands out: detail

Step 4: repeat 3x in a row.

For instance, both my neighbors are teachers and recently told me that their son was having difficulty remember ing a l l the elements of the periodic chart for chemistry class. So, he and his friends c a me up w it h a

clever way to remember that made sense to them. They came up with a Rap song! It went something like this: My element is “K”, and everywhere you look K is all around you, Yo you got it in potatoes and bananas as potassium you know, so K is potassium as an element don’t ya know! Ok, albeit it sounded much better and cooler when he was singing it! Nonetheless, they made it fun and now remember all the elements. Moreover, the students used an association they identified with-they remembered bananas have potassium in them.

By giving sensory specific and even non-sensical associations and detail to the

“thing” they are trying to learn will make remembering easier vs rote memorization which can be boring and tedious. If kids aren’t experiencing success as they learn they’re not going to want to continue.

Giving kids tools to do better, will help them to gain confidence with their abilities, experience success and hopefully be more motivated to learn.

We show them how to move and breathe, we teach them about balance and finding their Drishti Point or Soft Gaze, we help them with balance and body awareness,

but what children’s yoga teachers are really doing is infusing today’s youth with love! Why is children’s yoga the hottest among today’s enrichment classes? Because kids love yoga and parents love the effect yoga has on their children.

Yoga helps us to realize our true nature, which is bliss! Everyone deserves to be in touch with this natural state. When we are our authentic-self, void of fear, angst and frustration, we do and feel our best. Focusing on breath and movement allows us to be in the present moment. When we are in the present moment, we are not anxious about the future or dwelling on the past, but learning to feel safe in the here and now. What an amazing and powerful tool for someone at such a young age to learn. So, how do we begin to implement this age-old philosophy in our media-driven little junkies? We do it with fun and love of course!

In a 2003 study by California State University researchers found yoga class helped improve students attitudes towards themselves, helped improve students behavior, and helped students to perform better academically. That same year a study by Leipzig University reported that yoga reduces feelings of helplessness and aggression, and in the long term helps with emotional balance. They also found the benefits of yoga to be especially significant among children with special needs.

Children’s yoga differs from sports, martial arts or dance in that yoga is not goal-oriented. Kids develop important skills in a fun, non-competitive environment. I encourage Amala Kids (my yoga kid’s group) to be goofy! We use our feet as telephones, touch our friends’ feet or ears and pretty much give children the latitude they need to not feel judged! Young children often feel pressured at school academically and socially, not to mention, the added pressure of competitive organized sports. It is easy for girls and boys to become overly self-critical and lose confidence. Yoga is a great remedy; there is no judgment in a yoga class about how a child does a pose or plays a game. Doing a pose “perfectly” is not the aim of yoga, which nurtures a child’s inner strength and self-acceptance. Children learn through laughter, not through fear. Laughter strengthens the immune system.

One of the truly beautiful aspects of teaching children yoga is watching them care for each other! Most activities are

done with the c o op e r at ion of the group and children d e v e l o p mutual respect. I can’t think of any outlet o t h e r t h a n y o g a w h e r e children might have a chance t o e x p r e s s appropriate touch with one another. Touch releases oxytocin, which so many of us are seeking. Boys’ love of rough-housing is motivated by that need. In lieu of rough-housing, we do partner or group poses. and other creative activities like, Thai yoga massage disguised as making sushi rolls out of each other with

yoga mats. They pat each other down with rice, add sesame seeds,…all while being taught to use appropriate touch. Savasana is often spent lying with their heads on one another’s bellies, listening and feeling the rise and fall of the breath. This simple lesson is an amazing tool in learning to accept one another. Children feel bonded to one another.

What the world needs now is to teach its children how to love and care for themselves and one another! As a fellow yogi and children’s yoga teacher, Lindsey Bombstein, pointed out to me recently, where else but in yoga class do children learn how to relax? Yoga is beneficial and accessible to every person, as long as you can breathe, you can do yoga. The healing energy yoga provides is invaluable. “That is the first time, she (or he) has smiled all day” is something that is often told to me by therapists of my special needs group. Almost every class I teach, I find myself thinking, “Wow, I get paid to be me!” My job is to infuse these children will all the love and silliness I have in my heart.

What the World Needs Now, Is Love

Sweet Love.....

Empowering Children to Live a Fulfilling Life

Investing in children, is investing in a better tomorrow. In order to create stronger communities, children must be educated beyond reading, writing and math. In order to empower children to be better

citizens of the world, they also need to be taught social responsibility, self-sufficiency, and respect for themselves, others and their surround-ings.

In my work I meet many people eager to learn the things that their grandparent or great-grandparent knew, but for many reasons, never got passed along to them. I teach them basic skills for making their own remedies for health, personal hygiene, and caring for their home and pets.

The thing is, it is not just about teaching people a skill, but it is also about the interaction we have with each other. During my classes I en-courage everyone to share their stories and experiences because it adds much more value for all of us.

To my knowledge, this type of learning does not exist in public educa-tion and most parents are working so much they do not have the time (or knowledge) to share these types of lessons with their children.

Throughout history people have looked to their elders for guidance and advice, but somehow this tradition seems to have largely disappeared in our culture and along with it a great many important lessons.

Just over a year ago I began teaching yoga. The practice of yoga en-courages students to reflect on their actions, to see challenges as op-portunities, to develop self-worth, and to activate the desire to make a difference in the world around them.

It seems that many children in today’s world are not given the tools to face obstacles and opportunities with love, compassion and strength. It is my intention to create programs to enhance their spiritual, physical and emotional growth.

This September I will begin teaching Family Yoga at the recreation cen-ter for the City of Seminole. I believe this is the beginning of a whole new journey for me to help bridge the gap between the lessons of yes-terday’s elders and the life enrichment of today’s children.

If you have suggestions or comments about my future programs for children (and adults), please feel free to email me. I would love to hear from you. .

By Carolyn PuckettNatural Remedies

Energy is our greatest resource, not time or money. With more energy, we can creative abundance, with more energy we

can have better health, and with more energy we can make better use of time. How do we access more energy?

It begins with the food choices we make. Does the food you are choosing to eat have the bio-energy that our human bodies can utilize? Plants have converted solar energy into useable form; we then take the plant energy and convert it to our useable energy. Remember the sun is our planet’s energy source and the plants have a greater amount of bio-energy.

Anything unnatural the body ingests or breaths in that cannot be used, the body tries to eliminate. These are considered toxins by the body. If enough toxins collect, then the body treats them as stressors. This causes inflammation and can cause disease process. Make conscious, healthy choices and know why you are eating the foods you have chosen. Making healthy food choices is a work in progress, improves with practice and then becomes a healthy habit.

Getting restful sleep is important to restoring energy. Every day, take some time to relax for self care, and give yourself time to unwind the

mind from the day before going to bed. During sleep we receive healing, guidance and energy. When you awaken, take a few minutes to be still and recollect any messages from the sleep state. Write down what you remember in a journal. These insights can help prepare you for the day, help you solve problems or avoid problems, and help you flow through the day.

Are you getting enough activity and exercise? Do you have a practice that focuses on the body’s energy system, e.g. yoga, qigong, and tai chi? Key components include moving the body’s energy with awareness and with focused breath-ing. This will expand and integrate the body’s energy and help to clear the mind. You will flow with life better.

Are you living in the present? If you are busy worrying about the past or thinking about the future, you are creating stress, using up energy and not receiving the energy for the now. It is in the now that you can receive guidance and light. This can deflect problems, introduce solutions and create flow into your present. Adding a medita-tion practice allows you to shift into the now state of being which translates to living consciously in the moment with divine flow.

If you have stuck emotions that keep you

trapped, your energy is being blocked. Do you have areas of tension or pain held in your body - a tight neck, pain in the back, headaches, tension in the jaws, tension between the shoulder blades or tension in the solar plexus? These are some areas where tension is held, trapped memories and emotions stuck in the fascia. Through Myofascial Release, these areas can be restored with energy. During the session, subconscious memories and emotions can come to the awareness as the physical fascial restrictions are being released. This creates more energy flow in the body and eliminates the tension and pain.

Once you realize that it’s all about energy, and that we are energy, you begin the journey to expand your energy, expand your consciousness, expand your choices, and expand your life experi-ences and possibilities.

Nelson Mandela taught the world. He showed us, by example, to stand up for and demand our freedoms and exercise

our free will. He exemplifies the fight for and the right for freedom. His determination and example of freedom for human rights shows all of us how we can, and should, expect freedom from oppres-sion. He taught us, by example, to develop and to use our personal free will.

Freedom means the power to act, think, and speak without hindrance and restraint. It is the absence of subjection to foreign interference. Freedom is the power to determine action without restraint; the right to our free will.

How can we develop the deep embedded determination and strength of will power similar to Nelson Mandela?

How can we use the powerful energies that free will gives us?

How can we use this to provide us with peace, joy, health, and abundance in all areas of our life?

Free will is a magnificent tool to assist us in our lives. It is available for us to choose again and again. Nothing is written in cement. Free will is our ability to make another decision. Free will is always there for us.

With the gift of free will, we have the freedom of choice to make voluntary decisions, con-sciously or unconsciously, to perform an action, to think a thought, or to feel an emotion.

Because we have incarnated in this country at this time we have the right of free will. This is the highest form of freedom. However, free will brings us, not only terrific joy, but also tremen-dous conflicts of choice. Our choices of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual free will shape and direct our life. This abundant freedom can make people very uncomfortable, even scared. This is where the big lessons are. This is fear. Being in the place of fear nudges us forward to trust, reach for faith. We finally discover we have another opportunity. More free will so we can discover another outcome.

POWERFUL!!! We can respond freely, openly and deliberately. We have the power to decide how to treat people, what to take and what not to take from our life experiences, establish who we want to spend time with, (or not!). We

have the power to pursue our dreams, fulfill our destiny, or be devoted to our highest spiritual potential. Or simply decide how to live our life.

Life will bring us surprises, unexpected situ-ations, difficult or painful disappointments even what we may consider tragedies. This is part of the human experience.

Sorrow and heartache can overshadow any ability to find our free will choices. This hap-pens to all of us at one time or another. Obstacles, blocks, brick walls, seemingly, insurmountable situations do show up for us. We question, now what? Why me, how do I get through this?

We feel stuck, unhappy, miserable, angry, or frustrated at our plight. Most of us go through the why me, poor me, I want my way attitude. At these times, our free will seems to have been taken away. Our free will appears to be under the control of some cosmic force, we cannot control. Doubt, despair and resentment, enter into our consciousness. Perhaps, we feel abused, controlled, betrayed, or rejected.

This can overwhelm us or it can transform us. However, this is the moment, the teacher of

the universe has shown up for us. This is the divine time to find our free will. We can choose again.

Maybe we did get what we wanted in a convoluted or disguised way. There is a divine energy that does show up for us. We really do get what we want or need. We just don’t know what it is. Our job is to search, to seek, to open up to possibilities. It is finding another perceptive. Consider the “unwanted” situation may be just the lesson to provide guidance for us.

An unwanted situation can be the contrast as to what we don’t want. This is a clear and decisive point for a directional shift. An opportunity to look deeper towards what we do want. Unfor-tunate and unhappy circumstances show up for us because of our fear, lack or doubtful thinking, feelings or emotions. We have stifled our free will choice. We have ignored our free will. We have temporally misplaced our trust and faith.

How can our greater good -our personal freedom of choice, our free will -find us if we continue to allow ourselves to be buried beneath the rubble of forced efforts to control, manipulate, and demand things go our way? This is the place

of resistance. When we release our fear, ask for divine guid-

ance, take a breath, and release our resistance, we open up the possibilities. Search for our own re-sponsibility. Ask ourselves, “what part of this can I take responsibility for?” We are able to search for our own responsibility. This is the opening of the doorway for new ideas and new choices to enter.

Recognize this as another chance to grow, to move out of stale or difficult circumstances into something more harmonious. Free will is always better than our resistance. There is always a better, more peaceful, abundant offer on the other side of sorrow.

Think about it: You have the power and free will to choose how you will live your life!

When you begin to own your situation, take responsibility for who you are, energy shifts, mountains move, and the Universe opens up many new pathways.

This begins to lead you out of sorrow and into grace.

Free will is humankind’s main tool in each incarnation for learning lessons for our evolution. Be still, you have another chance, another choice, to decide again.

When we live life under grace, following the flow of energy, our free will choices will be sup-portive of us. A benevolent healing force is created to sustain and guide us. Our greater good will find us. We will have attained a quiet confidence realizing ALL IS WELL.

This is freedom. This is stepping into your free will.

As Maxine, the greeting card character said, “If we were meant to be controlled, we would have come with a set of instructions and a remote control.”

I can still hear my mother urging me out of the house and into the outdoors when I was growing up in rural Alabama. That’s

what parents did back then, told their children to go play and stop whining or fighting with their brothers and sisters. There is wisdom in those words that parents today can heed. Yes, we live in Florida where it’s too hot to even breathe outside, no, kids can’t just run off across the pasture to the woods and yes, everyone is scared of “stranger danger.” But these excuses are not good enough. Children need a great deal of time in nature that they’re not getting today.

Some think it’s enough if children just watch nature programs on television. No bugs, no dirt, no danger that way. But also no fresh air, no sun, no running around, no exploring, no imagination. So, first of all, un-plug the TV drug, the IPAD drug, the video game drug and any other electronic device that has captured the minds and souls of the kid population. As long as children can sit back and be entertained, they will not develop their capacities for entertaining themselves.

That’s another difference from my gen-eration. I was not driven around from one ac-tivity to another. (For many years we didn’t even own a car.) If I wanted to play with my friends, Rachel or Judy, I had to walk to their houses, possibly a mile or two away. My

mother did not have time to worry about my social life.

But what if you’re in the middle of a sub-urban development and there are no woods for escape? That’s why I’m writing this piece—to give you some ideas on how you can turn your own backyard into an enticing place for children to play.

There are several musts for a backyard play area: a big sand box, some “loose piec-es” to build with, lots of interesting plantings under which to make houses, a digging area, some water, a rope swing.

First, the sand box. Please, none of the plastic turtle sand boxes. They’re too small and don’t lend themselves to the kind of play that can stretch into hours. If you don’t have the means to build a sandbox, one that has a bench all the way around and is ample enough for some real building and digging to go on, do what we have done in the kindergarten play yard at Suncoast Waldorf School. Col-lect stumps and set them in a large circle. You can tie them together to keep them from fall-ing over, but the sand, too, will provide stabi-lization. Fill with sand.

You can have a load of sand dumped and you can use a wheel barrow to haul it to the sandbox area. (One of our parents had the means for hauling huge bags full of sand from Home Depot.) It is important to put the sand

box under a tree for shade. If you don’t have a tree, build a shade over the box using a type of sun screen over posts. You can improvise by stretching chicken wire over the top of well dug posts and then spreading Spanish moss over the wire. Our sand box at school sits under several oak trees.

The nice thing about using stumps is that the children can practice their balance while walking around the uneven stumps. But an-other plus is the natural beauty of the stumps and how pleasing it is just to look at them and touch them. What is even more pleasing is to watch the children play in this sand area and to see how engaged they are, how they cre-ate their worlds, how they don’t need adults to tell them what to do, how they learn to play together. They will play contentedly for long stretches of time. Give them a source of water they can haul to the sand and the play takes an even more interesting turn.

It is important to cover the sand box area with a large tarp that you can weight down with rocks in order to keep out cats or dogs. When it rains the tarp will catch rain water and the children can have more fun splashing in the deep puddles.

Now for the loose pieces. By this I mean having things on hand that children can use in their play or building. This would be things such as smooth planks, stumps, bamboo poles,

Every part of our body; cell, bone, tissue and molecule was born with a normal healthy frequency of vibration called “Chi or energy”. During the

early years of growing up, we build layers of imbalances and blockages of this vital Chi/energy. This imbalance/blockage stops or limits our normal frequency to our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical levels of our well being. We literaly “get out of tune or sync” with our own natural and normal frequency.

The Chi/energy can be returned or restored by the use of powerful ener-getic tools or modalities such as ACUPUNCTURe-both needle or Acutron/electrical; CRYSTAlS or STONeS; SOUND (Tuning Forks, Mantras, Crystal Bowls, and Prayer); and your own SeNSiNG SYSTeM CAlleD CHAKRAS, which are energy vortexes within your own body.

cut palmettos or palm fronds, concrete blocks, rope, old sheets or table cloths—just use your imagination and you’ll know what to gather up. One of the most satisfying of loose pieces to have around are several hay bales. First, the children play on them as they are, pushing them around, jumping from one to the other, and enjoying the intact bales. Then, gradually, the hay is pulled out and soft piles of the hay provide other varieties of play which include tossing it up into the air.

When I was growing up, building play houses was a central part of our play. We raided garbage dumps for these building trea-sures. Parents living in urban areas have to help create these loose pieces for children but the rewards will be well worth the effort.

Imagine creating a back yard with little paths that circle around lush plantings filled with blooming flowers. Instead of one large green lawn that must be constantly mowed, mysterious and inviting areas underneath small trees and shrubs are created. Stepping stones can be laid through a flower garden. Recently, a parent at our school built a little arched wooden bridge that crosses the herb and flower garden in the play yard.

Find one area in your yard that is avail-able to the children for digging. Digging in the earth is different from digging in a sand box. Children encounter living nature and

their imaginations take them all the way to China. They need real, child sized shovels, certainly not those useless plastic ones. Add some water, and one has real mud for making pies or creating lakes and rivers.

If you have a strong tree branch, hang a good rope swing. It can be a single rope with a knot or a circular board at the end or a dou-ble rope with a real swing seat. The swing of a rope swing is so much more satisfying that the short swings that metal swing sets give.I hope these suggestions will inspire you to provide the kind of back yard that children de-serve. You will be released from your role as cruise director as the children’s imaginations are sparked into action. Then, you’ll be able to say as my mother did, “Run outside and play now and don’t come back in until I call you for supper!”

horoscopes

ARIESU N I O N … i s c o m m o n l y understood as the uniting of two separate elements. However, in your case this reflects an interest in the sexual sense of union. Seek to unite in your life what may have become divided and at odds. Make efforts to reconcile any differences and risk deeper communication and vulnerability. You will not regret it.

TAURUSSENSITIVITY…is not one of your strong points but your practical earthly intuition is unmatched. Keywords for you this month are rejuvenation, fertility, rebirth, renewal and the passage of time. Seek to understand a deeper level of what confronts you now and practice responding as the deer-with more cautious yet gentle grace. Shed what is outworn and dated.

GEMINI SWEET FRUIT…is the beginning of the most delectable experiences that truly lie ahead as long as you are willing to do the footwork. Fruits can also be transformed into powerful new substances that can transform the very fibre of your life. Use the gifts, or fruits of what you have been given, wisely. Validate your inner nudges by supporting yourself with concrete action.

CANCER FROG…is known for its ability sing no matter whether it rains or shines. Frogs are also a symbol of fertility and new life and its capacity to also transform unattractive elements into princely new ones. Seek to be more conscious of the frog energy in your life and make elements both within yourself and externally to you new once again. Rebirth is the key here. Just decide.

LEO DOG…happy Leo, happy Dog…seriously, a dog can generate and bring new life into the most depressing of situations. It threads a path between darkness and light and even Sirius is also called the “dog star.” Dogs have keen feelings for the truth that resides within the heart. Maybe it is time to spend more time with a four -legged friend and finding a way to do just that can be uplifting for you!

VIRGO COBRA…was attributed in Egypt, among other things, to the establishment of order. What do you need to bring more into order within your life or another’s? The cobra is well known for its connection to the unconscious and anxiety for it signals that something beneath the surface may be amiss. It weaves the sacred thread of wisdom around the waist of all who have the patience and focus to look deeper.

LIBRAHARMONY…contemplate in your life you can improve your sense of harmony and aesthetics, whether it be in relationship, garden, home or work. Strive to identify a deeper level of commonality between you and another while at the same time you seek to celebrate that which makes you uniquely different. Be the first to extend the olive branch and be thankful you can.

SCORPIOTONGUE…it is through speech that we have been given a fateful power to with destroy or create. It is best to hold your tongue when in doubt about the truth of what maybe going on behind the scenes. Make sure you check all aspects of a situation before deciding that it is unpalatable. Then let the sense of the taste of it guide you.

SAGITTARIUSWREATH…is an age-old symbol of respect and celebration. Even a wreath of thorns has led to new life and resurrection. Take some time out to celebrate and old order passing away as you make preparations for a new time of growth. The cycles are shifting.

CAPRICORNHANDS…have the ability to convey a whole language as well as to generate all kinds of goods and to heal. What could be more valuable to the human need for touch and connection? Seek to reach out and touch someone this month. This can make a world of difference as to how well you engage with the world at large.

AQUARIUS HONEYBEE…oh how sweet is the potential of untapped gifts you carry deep within you. Like our friend, the honeybee, you have the ability with your unique perspective to sweeten and illuminate. It is associated with the great mother goddess whose connection to warmth and nourishment are legend. Take the time to nurture and express. Be of the “nectar-born.”

PISCESMANDRAKE…again, a symbol of fertility arises with an innate ability to be poisonous as well as to relieve tremors and confusion. It is a paradox and thus is the story of your sun sign. Having the ability to do in two directions at once allow yourself to encompass a greater level of light while you simultaneously shed any fears. It works.

Journey of the Heart to Egypt - October 12th to 26th 2013. The dream of your lifetime fulfilled. Limited to 16 spaces only. Contact Dr. Imsara for details.
