Our Vision
We are a global caring charity organisation that aims to help the needy and affected people in North and East of Sri
Lanka and people living in similar circumstances overseas.
Our Mission
To provide financial and moral support to help the needy school / university children, orphanage centres, hospitals
and other charity organisations in North and east of Sri-Lanka while maintaining strong links with other charity or-
ganisations locally and internationally.
Our Values:
Respect, care and help each other.
Maintain honesty, integrity and excellence.
Provide moral and financial support to needy and disadvantagedt people
Inspiring a legacy of social awareness and compassion.
Regional Funding: In general we have divided North & East into five regions as detailed below and share our
funds to these five regions to implement humanitarian projects.

Collection Summary: Amount of $51,400 was received as voluntary contributions throughout 2013, which
includes the Thai Pongal Contributions received during January 2013. A cultural program “Enthira Maali—2013”
was organised in Sydney in August 2013 and $17,750 was raised at this event. Laughing O Laughing drama was
hosted in Brisbane in Nov 2013 by Tamil Engineers Foundation Brisbane committee and $24,500 was raised. The
total collection in 2013 was $93,500.

Welcome to our end of 2013 Newsletter Issue 5.

Background of the Tamil Engineers Foundation
Tamil Engineers Foundation (TEF) was established in 2007 to collectively participate spiritually and morally for the
long lasting peace in our home land. This is a non political, non profitable and charity focused organisation. The main
objective is to help the needy school/university children, orphanage centers, hospitals and other charity organisations
in North and East of Sri-Lanka. This is a registered organisation with a license to raise funds for charitable purposes.
We have undertaken many charitable activities during the last six years, which have been well received by the local
community in Australia and overseas.

FLOOD RELIEF TO AFFECTED FAMILIES
IN VANNI
Many recently resettled families were affected by
the flooding due to heavy rainfall in Vanni area.
Amount of $1000 was donated to Ramakrishna
Mission at Colombo to provide emergency relief
measures to flood affected families.
THAI PONGAL VILLA AT SYDNEY MURUGAN TEMPLE
Thai Pongal Day is being celebrated by the Tamil Engineers Foundation each year at Sydney Murugan Temple. Joint
bajan is performed by the members followed by lunch and evening prasatham. TEF members, families and friends par-
ticipate in this great event at the temple and this event also forms a platform for engineers, professionals, well wishers
and their families to meet there and develop networking.
CHILD SPONSORSHIPS AT KILINOCHI (MAHADEVA ARCHIRMAM)
Child sponsorships (Rs 4000 per month) were
provided to five children at Mahadeva Archirmam
and another girl “Thamilini”” at Kilinochchi. These
children lost their parents during the recent civil
strive. Thamilini’s father died during the troubles.
Her mother left her three children with her sister and
gone to Middle East to earn money to fund the heart
operation of her youngest son. Thamilini performed
well in her grade 5 exams. Amount of $2200 was do-
nated to this worthy project.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PERADNENIYA UNI STUDENTS
Many University students struggle to continue their higher
studies due to their family & financial situation. Amount
of $2740 was donated to Peradeniya Tamil Sangam to pro-
vide scholarships (Rs 3000 per month) to 10 deserving stu-
dents. These were distributed as: 5 scholarships from Engi-
neering faculty, 2 from arts, 2 from Agriculture faculty and

ASSISTANCE TO NUFFIELD DEAF & BLIND SCHOOL
Many disabled children are studying at Nuffield Deaf and
Blind School at Kaithady, Jaffna. Amount of $2000 was
donated to provide beds, mattresses, bed sheets, towels,
sarams and clothes for the boys and girls at this school.
We thank Melbourne Sai Group who kindly donated the
funds for this project.
COACHING CLASSES IN BATICALOA
Private coaching classes were arranged in three re-
mote schools in Batticaloa to help the needy and de-
serving students to pass their scholarship exams
LIMB FITTINGS TO CIVILIAN AMPUTEES INCLUDING WOMEN AND CHILDREN

was donated to
Sivan Arul Illam to
implement 15 Nos
(Stage 1) limb fit-
tings to amputees.
REVOLVING LOANS TO ESTABLISH LIVLIHOOD INCOME
Many families lost their husbands and fathers during
the recent troubles and struggling to manage their day
to day life without a regular income. Amount of $
3050 was donated to Sivan Arul Illam, Mannar to
provide Rs 30,000.00 revolving loan to 12 families to
establish them a livelihood income. Poultry, cattle
rearing, water pumps were provided to these families.
LIVLIHOOD TO RESETTLED FAMILIES AT MUL-LATIVU
Many families were resettled at Mullativu area recently
without any basic needs or a regular income. Amount of
$4555 was donated to International Sustainable Li-
vlihood Foundation (ISLF) in USA to provide liveli-
hood to 35 families . Amount of $1500 was raised in
USA and $1160 was raised in Canada i.e in total $7200
was provided for this project to establish them a suitable
livelihood i.e cattle rearing, poultry, farming assistance,
sewing machines etc.

FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS IN TRINCOMALEE & BATICALOA
Many families living under the poverty line were affected
by the flooding from heavy rainfall in Trincomalee and Bat-
icaloa areas. Amount of $1500 was donated to needy chil-
dren in these areas to provide them the most needed schools
books, stationary etc for them to continue their studies.
CATARACT EYE OPERATIONS IN BATTICALOA & KALMUNAI AREAS
Cataract Eye Lenses (400Nos) were purchased from Fred
Hollows Foundation Eye Lense Laboratory at Kathmandu,
Nepal at the total cost of $2000 and handed over to the Doc-
tors at Batticaloa. The eye screening were conducted in Va-
hari, Pattipali and Kiran. Eye operations are being
organised at Batticaloa Hospital.
GCE (O/L) COACHING CLASSES TO SCHOOLS IN KILINOCHI
Weekend coaching classes were organised by SJC87 committee at 5 schools in Kilinochi to assist the GCE O/L
students. A group of highly dedicated and qualified teachers from Jaffna and Colombo travelled to these schools
to conduct voluntary lessons in Mathematics, English and Science. The full day long weekend sessions were
conducted over an 18 week block. 10 bank books of (Rs5000) also were provided to 10 deserving high perform-
ing students to encouraging them to do well in their studies. Amount of $2000 was donated to this project.

December 2013 SCHOOL FOR SPECIAL NEEDS AT KONDAVIL, JAFFNA
Amount of $5000 was donated to Dr. Aru Thirumurugan
at Siva Poomi School for Special Needs at Kondavil,
Jaffna. This funding was given to purchase an envelope
making machine (or a similar machine) to provide self-
employment training to the disabled children at the
school.
CHILDREN SPONSORSHIP (JAFFNA & MULLATIVU)
Child sponsorships (Rs 4000 per month) to six children who
lost their parents Or whose parents were affected i.e. lost
their eyes, hands, legs etc. Amount of $2325 was donated
to this project.
GCE (A/L )APPRECIATION AWARDS
Amount of $1000 (Rs 135,000) was donated to provide appreciation awards to 10 students who came first in
Maths and Bio streams in the last A/L Exams in the 5 districts of the Northern Province in 2013. A similar
award scheme is implemented in the Eastern Province, which is funded by a charity organisation from UK.
PRESCHOOL AT THENMARAVADI,
Tables, chairs and blackboard were provided to a pre school
at Thenmaravadi which is in a remote area of Trincomalee.
This remote village was badly affected during the troubles
and most of the families were displaced. Amount of $600
was donated to this project.
LIMB FITTINGS (STAGE 2) Amount of $10,500 was donated to Sivan Arul Illam
(Mannar) to provide limb fittings to 50Nos civilian ampu-
tees including women and children in our home land.

COW PROJECT IN VANNI (INTERNATIONAL SUS-TAINABLE LIVLIHOOD FOUNDATION OF USA)
Amount of $1000 was donated to ISLF (International Sus-
tainable Livelihood Foundation) in USA to implement cattle
rearing project to affected families in Vanni.
SCHLORSHIPS TO JAFFNA UNIVERSITY STU-DENTS
Scholarships (Rs 3000 per month for 12 months) were pro-
vided to 10 needy and affected students at Jaffna University
to relive their financial hardship and concentrate in their
studies. Amount of $2955 was donated to this project.
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT TO NEEDY CHILDREN Amount of $600 was donated to Sivan Arul Illam to provide
$100 each to the selected 6 child sponsorship children in Jaff-
na and Mullativu areas to encourage them to perform well in
their studies.
LIMB FITTINGS (STAGE 3) & GIRLS TOILETS AT SI-VAN ARUL ILLAM ORPHANAGE CETRE AT
THIRUKETHESWARAM Amount of $10,250 was donated to Sivan Arul Illam
(Mannar) to provide limb fittings to 25Nos civilian amputees
including women and children and to construct 4 Nos toilets
at girls hostel at Sivan Arul Illam Orphanage at
Thiruketheswaram, Mannar.
DESTITUTE WELFARE Amount of $1200 was donated to Destitute Welfare Fund
at Mannar to extend the Child Sponsorship scheme (Rs
4000 per month to a child) to selected 5 children for an-
other six months.
SENDING OF BOOKS New & used Engineering books were collected in Australia
and sent directly to Eng. Faculty at Jaffna University.
DESTITUTE WELFARE FUND, MANNAR
Many resettled families in Mannar area were affected by the recent flooding. Amount of $750 was donated to Des-
titute Welfare Fund at Mannar to provide school books , food items, medicine etc to flood affected families.

FUNDING TO WOMEN HEADED FAMILIES IN JAFFNA AREA.
During the civil unrest in the country many families
lost their husband and fathers. Amount of $ 2952.00
was donated to Sivan Arul Illam, Mannar to provide
Rs 35,000 to each 10 families to restart farming
activities.
SCHOOL BOOKS, STATIONARY, SCHOOL BAGS ETC TO FAMILIES IN JAFFNA
Amount of $500 was donated to Sivan Arul Illam of Man-
nar to provide educational assistance i.e. books, stationary,
uniform, shoes etc to 12 needy students in Jaffna.
BUS PURCHASE IN KILINOCHI
Amount of $3500 was donated to Mahadeva Archiramam
at Kilinochi towards purchasing a bus to transport the chil-
dren in the orphanage to medical appointments, cultural
programs, sporting events, picnics etc.
CULTURAL PROGRAM IN SYDNEY ENTHIRA MAALI—2013”
During Aug 2013 a cultural program was staged in Syd-
ney to raise funds for the charity. It was a house full
event with approximately 700 audience. An amount of
$17,780 was raised for the charity.
LAUGHING O LAUGHING DRAMA IN BRISBANE
During Nov 2013 Laughing O Laughing drama
(Directed by Dr. Jayamohan) was hosted by TEF Bris-
bane committee. The support received from Tamil com-
munity in Brisbane was excellent. This also was a
house full event with approximately 600 audience.
Amount of $24,500.00 was raised for the charity.

The committee extends its sincere gratitude and thanks to everyone who has made generous contribution to date;
helping the Tamil Engineers Foundation financially assist the needy people in our homeland. Voluntary contributions
received during 2013 from Australia & overseas has significantly increased compared to previous years. The total val-
ue of charity activities undertaken in 2013 has exceeded $70,000.00 (Rs8.5Million). This indicates that a tremendous
support is given by you to our charity. We like to commend our members for their great support, generosity and pas-
sion towards helping the needy and affected people in our homeland. We hope your support will continue in the years
to come.
