It is alleged that the suspects entered the store through the roof and used a signal scrambling device to disarm the alarm. CCTV camera footage, which will form part of the investigation, shows two suspects in the store, but it is not clear if more suspects were involved. According to Provincial SAPS media liason officer Captain Mofokeng, the suspects used commercial explosives to blow up the ATM and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. Fox Security and Alberton SAPS were on the scene shortly after the incident and investigations are now underway. Macy’s Spar owner Ian Fleming would like to apologise to his customers for any inconvenience they might have experienced and to assure them that the store’s management have extensive measures in place to ensure the safety of their customers and staff during trading hours. Furthermore, FNB will now install a full ATM on the premises, next to the existing Standard Bank and Absa ATMs. He also advised tame TIMES that Macy’s Spar will open their Tops store at the end of August and that they will have numerous reduced price opening specials on offer. A first for Alberton Child Welfare

Alberton Child Welfare held their inaugural Golf Day at Glenvista Country Club on 6 August. The fundraiser was made possible by Home Talk Developments and Rawson Properties, which organised the event.Elmarie Kennedy, Alberton Child Welfare’s director, told tame TIMES that the aim was to raise R100 000, as in these financial times they need more funds to meet the needs of vulnerable children, as well as their other objectives. The money raised will also be used for therapeutic services for the children, among other things.Lizanne Booysen, who did most of the organising, would like to thank the following companies for sponsoring either tees or prizes: Mawer & Delport, Rawson Properties, Makro, Sunflower Energy, Kiron Developments, Timber Plastics, Protective Force, Kgori Security, Hometalk Developments, On Course Golf Promotions, Matrix Computers, Sam’s Studio and Warren Von Hoesslin Van Matrix Blinds.

Jy weet, op my ouderdom word

A new growth node for Gauteng

Basil Read’s exclusive Klipriver Business Park, situated just 20km south of Johannesburg is steadily growing and recent interest from both local and international companies is further testimony that this area is a major new growth node for Gauteng. This prime land comprises a total of 109 saleable erven and is located on the R59 and R550 interchange, east and west of the Heidelberg off-ramp. Allocated exclusively for industrial use, it is designed to cater for warehousing, logistics and distribution nodes and is divided into four phases, with each phase situated on a quadrant of the interchange. All areas have high visibility, maximum exposure and are easily accessible from the major motorways.Phase 1 of the development comprises of 48 stands, of which 16 have already been sold; new sales on additional stands are in the process of being concluded. These stands are all fully serviced and include fibre optic communication systems as well as excellent security that allows for full access control and perimeter security. Chinese investor New Hope South Africa (Pty) Limited, which purchased 2 erven in Phase 1 that were valued at R15 million mid-2013, has already commenced building both their office and warehouse facility on their site. Current owners such as Renico Construction have capitalized on the prime location, high visibility and easy accessibility and have already built and let out warehousing or industrial facilities. Interest has already been expressed in purchasing additional stands. Companies like Paramount Trailers and PNR Transport are already enjoying their new business premises and believe that the high visibility and easy accessibility of the site have definitely contributed to their business improvements. Recent interest from international companies, with a view to taking larger

portions of land on the other three phases, will add further impetus to the positioning of Klipriver Business Park as a prime property for development.Yusuf Patel, MD of Basil Read Developments, is very optimistic about this development and said, “The Klipriver Business Park node will definitely be the next growth point for Gauteng, as is evidenced from the already wide variety of local and international businesses on the site and the reputable corporate neighbours that include Heineken, BSI Steel, Crystal Pack, Kwikspace, Nampac and Everite. This excellent mix of visibility, accessibility, security, interest and sales are all signs of a growing economy. Klipriver Business Park is definitely the place to be and the space to watch over the next year.” For more information on prime land available at the Klipriver Business Park, contact Christelle Siebert on 071 602 8676 or visit www.basilreaddevelopments.co.za.

Over the past few months, the Mr South Africa competition has become synonymous with the phrase “Men of Honour.” This statement extends beyond a marketing slogan or mere lip service as the Top 50 contestants have engaged with their local communities, inspired students and truly represented the brand.Unlike many other competitions, the Mr South Africa contest gives competitors monthly challenges to test their leadership, planning and management skills, as well as innovative thinking and creative problem-solving capabilities. For example, since announcing the Top 50, the men have participated in the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, held educational talks at various schools around the country, collected blankets for the underprivileged, raised funds for worthy organisations through online advertising opportunities and driven awareness and publicity campaigns for themselves. As each task or project was completed successfully, every candidate was scored according to their output and the desired outcomes. These scores were added up and combined with the support each contestant received through their individual SMS voting lines. “Each of our Top 50 have brought something to the competition this year, but the Top 25 have taken it one step further, which has set them apart from the rest of the pack,” Rudi Baker, CEO of Mr South Africa said.

Mr South Africa and the judges would like to congratulate the following contestants for making it through to the Top 25 round:

The recently announced Absa Joburg City Festival, taking place across Joburg City from 2 to 5 October, will see an amazing array of entertainment on offer in a diversity of venues, all showcasing the vibrant energy and culture of one of Africa’s largest cities. The Absa Joburg City Festival is an initiative of the Joburg City Tourism Association (JCTA), a voluntary group of businesses and organisations committed to growing the inner city’s tourism industry. The first Joburg City Festival took place last year. This year ten main festival venues will host some of South Africa’s most loved artists, from Johnny Clegg and Jack Parow to Loyiso Gola and Amanda Strydom. With an additional 50-plus fringe venues offering an incredible range of food, drink and entertainment, the four days of the festival will be a celebration of the regeneration of the city centre. On 4 October the Springboks take on New Zealand at Ellis Park Stadium. To mark the occasion, Absa will align its sponsorship of the Springboks with that of the Festival by

hosting the popular Boktown at Absa Campus and supporting the

Fan Mile from Absa Campus to Ellis Park Stadium via

Maboneng. To coincide with the opening of the Festival, the Absa Art Gallery will unveil a new collection and the Absa

Money Museum will showcase

artefacts pertaining to the city’s 128-year history.

Atterbury Property will launch Newtown Junction, comprising a shopping centre, offices, a hotel, a gym and 2 400 underground parking bays. It will also be the venue for a number of public performances by various artists during the Festival. All ten festival venues are linked via the Rea Vaya bus system, and festival passes with transport included will be available as the festival approaches. Event tickets for the Joburg City Festival will be on sale from 16 August on www.joburgfest.co.za.

In a ticketing first for South Africa, and to encourage attendance at as many events as possible, a sliding scale applies, whereby the more tickets you buy, the less you pay.

September will mark Jazzy Masala’s sixth annual production as they stage Badtamasti at The Lyric at Gold Reef City on 6 and 7 September for 2 shows only.Following the fusion of gumboot, gungroo and tap accompanied by pure classical Indian music in Footprints of a Dancer in 2013, which proved to be a huge audience hit, Jazzy Masala now brings the Jozi public Badtamasti. The exhilaration builds around the theme of Masti aur Maza (frolicking fun) in Jozi. Preparations for the new production are underway with talented dancers working tirelessly to bring their best to the stage. The inspiration for this production lies in the title itself Badtamast Masti - having fun with and through dance and adding a touch of spice to our flamboyant, beautiful and rich culture. With over 80 dancers involved

in the production, the show promises to be sizzling, colourful, fun and pulsating. It will encompass a variety of genres woven together to create new ways of movement which Versha Magan has become legendary for.Inspired by Bollywood at its finest, with Classical Kathak as its base and Contemporary and Jazz fused together with Latin and hip-hop; Jazzy Masala has become a household name and aims to bring you something fresh and creative every year. This production is jampacked with endless entertainment, great fun and absolute enjoyment. On this journey Jazzy Masala takes pride in bringing you something fresh, original and innovative to The Lyric Theatre each year. For enquiries: Contact 083 275 4531 or 011 435 7945. Badtamasti- a vibrant celebration of dance

Sun International’s Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World, in association with A Festa Portuguesa, has booked Portugal’s biggest recording artist, Jorge Ferreira, to play at their Brakpan venue during this year’s highly anticipated A Festa Portuguesa 2014 from 23 to 28 September. South Africans, and the better part of the First World, know and love him for his early 80s breakout hit-single Papai, which, having sold in excess of 1.2 million copies, stands as the country’s fifth best-selling song of all time.In a career that has spanned four decades, Ferreira has found fans in the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Venezuela, the United

Kingdom, France, the Portuguese islands of Madeira, the Azores and, of course, South Africa. He has released full-length albums, more than four mini-albums, 16 singles, 20 compilations, three live albums, 16 musical collaborations, one VHS, eight DVDs and a large number of music videos. The singing sensation has also made the following genres his own: country, rock, American pop, rockabilly, ballads, reggae, dance, flamenco, Latin music, American folk, fado, Christmas songs, hip-hop, kuduro, desgarrada and Portuguese folklore. In 1979 he began with the single Conjunto Mars and its accompanying full-length album Mars, which showcased a mix of Portuguese and American pop songs in a way that has yet to be repeated by anyone. Next up was Amar Como Jesu Amou (To Love like Jesus Loved), an album that was also released in Portugal with great success. The game-changer, though, was the release of the album Viva Fall River (Live Fall River), arguably an album that changed the face of continental pop forever. Jorge Ferreira will perform at The Big Top Arena at Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World on Friday 26 September, at 7pm, and again on Saturday 27 September, at 1pm. Tickets to see him live in concert range from R300 to R600 each, and will also allow fans entrance to A Festa Portuguesa on the day of the performance they attend.

CSF taking shape in Ekurhuleni

The MMC for Community Safety, Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza, who also chairs the Community Safety Forum (CSF), led an evaluation conference on Saturday 2 August at Germiston Council Chambers. The objective of the conference was to reflect on the past twelve months with regard to progress made by the CSF since the official launch in July 2013.In laying a firm foundation for the CSF, extensive consultative processes were initiated in 2012, which included sensitizing communities at ward committee level and was followed by consultative workshops with all other stakeholders, culminating in an official launch conference in July 2013.Three regional CSF structures have been established, at least five major successful awareness campaigns have so far been conducted and many new EMPD personnel have been hired, the MMC for Community Safety, Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza announced.“Although we are still faced with challenges in respect of financial constraints and the clarifying of the difference between CSFs and Community Policing Forums (CPFs) to our communities, great strides have been made since the official launch in July 2013. A Community Safety Plan (CSP) has been adopted with remedial measures in place to solicit funds and stepping up on awareness campaigns. Over and above, future plans include establishment of ward-based CSFs as well as Voting District-based CSFs by mid-2016,” MMC Siboza explained.MMC Siboza made an impassioned plea to the delegates to ensure that all formations, youths, families and individuals actively take a bold stand against crime in their homes, streets, neighborhoods, communities and the entire region in order to create a safer Ekurhuleni for all. “The onus is on each and every one of us to play a enuine and sincere role in making our homes and streets safe,” Siboza emphasized. The CSF Committee under the chairmanship of MMC Siboza is charged with the responsibility of coordinating all stakeholders involved in community safety e.g. CPFs, Business Against Crime, SAPS, the Justice Department, Correctional Services, Home Affairs and non-profit organizations (NPOs) with the objective of ensuring seamless management of the CSF structures in Ekurhuleni.

Champion Son: renusha Sookdaw of World Golf events South africa congratulates richard Blignaut on his win.

S’manga Khumalo has achieved the second of his two ultimate career goals. the first was his historic win at last

year’s Vodacom Durban July, South africa’s richest race. the second occurred on 13 august when the 29-year-old was announced as the Champion Jockey for the 2013 / 2014 national season in South africa. this announcement took place at the prestigious equus awards held at emperor’s palace in Johannesburg, known at the “oscars” of the South african horse-racing industry.Khumalo is the first black jockey to walk away with this title, one which was cemented by his impressive 185 wins this season, which saw him outdo his closest competitor, Richard Fourie - who had 143 wins to his name - by 42 wins. Khumalo ends this season with a remarkable 1 381 races.Known affectionately as “Bling” within racing circles, he was spotted by a talent scout, who visited his school in Kwa Mashu in Durban, at age 15. While his wiry 154cm frame had caused him much teasing as a teenager, the scout recognised in him the makings of a jockey. In 2000 Khumalo joined the Durban Jockey Academy in Summerveld where he started a five-year apprenticeship - and the rest, as they say, is history. Khumalo has been racing professionally since 2006.After a short but well deserved rest, Khumalo will start the 2014/2015 national season with his heart set on more prominent race wins locally, as well as a number of international races.
