Tambopata booklet Alternative to field trip The field trip is designed for students to gain a better understanding of the rain forest and how to help protect it. Your task is to produce a guide to Tambopata that could be used as a way of demonstrating to other students what sort of animals and plants can be found there. You will also need to research and describe human activities in Tambopata. The guide should be prepared for publishing as a blog. You will need to create a blog and arrange for access to this at school by sending me the link so I can ask Miss Darienne to unblock it at school. To help you think more about the points above I will go through each one:

Geography:

• Where is Tambopata in Peru? Does it boarder any other Countries? How big is it? • What is special about Tambopata? Is it a resreve or national park etc?• How would tourists get there?• What is the weather there throughout the year? Are there any seasons?

Wildlife:

• Find out about what kind of animals would you find there? Give at least two examples of the following; mammal, bird, amphibian, reptile, fish. State their features and any helpful information such as if they are endangered.

• Find at least four examples of arthropods and give some useful information about them.

• Plants are very important. Find at least four trees specific to Tambopata and describe what they are used for.

• In addition to the four trees, use the rain-tree link to find out about two other tress; sangre de grado and cats claw. What known medcinal value do the have?

Human activities:

• Find out how many people live in the area • Where do the people live. Are the in one place? Are there any tribes?• What are the main activities of the locals?

Ecology:

• What is the effect of the human activity in the area?• How much of the rain forest is being destroyed, or is it growing back?• What has the government done to protect the area?• What is ecotourism, and how is this benefitting the area?

Summary:

• Prepare the pages to ceate a blog that can be published using the instructions

• Use the questions as a guide to what information should be included• Use the web links given• Use additional searches to find extra information• Use blogger or similar weblog site to create a blog

The blog will form 20% of the mark for term 2 and should be completed by the third week of term 2
