History

The Taman Ujung water palace was built in 1919 and inaugurated in 1921 by the King of Karangasem which at first used for resting place and for entertaining important guests such as kings or the Chief Executive foreigners who visited the kingdom of Karangasem.

Inside the park there are three large ponds and wide, in the middle of the pond north of the main building are connected by two bridges. On the right there is a garden pond and flower pots and statues.

Shape of the building is very grand and distinctive because of a combination of European and Balinese architecture. In the west of the pond in a little high, there is a circular building called "Bale Bengong" place to enjoy the beauty of the park and its surroundings. To reach the top of the hills west of the park is the steps high and wide. In the North park on the hill there is a large statue beneath the statue of the bull and the two mouth water sculpture where water out into the pond. From the top of this hill we can see the scenery truly beautiful and amazing. Unfortunately this magnificent cultural heritage has been destroyed by the earthquake that occurred when Mount Agung erupted and also particularly due to the earthquake that occurred in 1979. Although it is now in ruins, but the impression of majestic in the past are still visible and the beauty of the panorama still awesome.

The architect was the late King of Karangasem Ida Anak Agung Anglurah Karangasem where he combined the available landscape and surrounding environtment such as rice terraces, mountains, river, beaches and coastal edge. The King of Karangasem used the Balinese cosmology as the concept of his building foundation.

From the site selection, laying out the base of the park and also its building application, all have their meaning from the ritual spiritual values of Hindu religion. Some of Balinese song later also takes the majesty of Taman Ujung architecture.
