FEBRUARY RESIDENT OF THE MONTH
Our February Resident of the Month is Al Krauza, a native of New Jersey. Al was born on November 1, 1942 in Bayonne and is a product of the public schools there. He was the middle child and only son of Jean and Al. His parents owned and operated a grocery store at 42nd and Broadway in Bayonne. He and his sisters worked in the store from their early years where they all learned the value of a dollar, earning fifty cents per hour!
Al received his B.A. and M.A. from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. After completing his formal education, Al taught 5th and 6th grades in an elementary school in Bayonne and then worked as a guidance counselor in the High School. He also worked with the New Jersey Department of Education and Multimedia Education in New York City for 3 years. He founded an Educational Testing Business in 1971 that was based in Elizabeth and Trenton, New Jersey. The business scored SAT and CAT tests and had a contract with the New York City public schools. As his business expanded, Al was joined by Linda Weiss, who eventually became his business partner and later his wife.
Al has 3 children – one son who lives in Pennsylvania and one who is in Los Angeles. His daughter lives in New Jersey. Linda has one son who lives in Laguna Beach and another who lives in New Jersey. Her New Jersey son is a retired lieutenant with the NYC Fire Department at the time of the 9/11 tragedy.
In 2009, Al’s nephew, Ben Weiss, created BAI, a very refreshing drink in many healthy and delicious flavors. Al was the National Director on Premise from its founding until 2018, when he retired. The company was bought out by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group for $1.7 billion.
Al and Linda moved to the Towers in May, 2016. Linda became very ill with rheumatoid arthritis and passed away in 2018. He has since become involved with the Elks Club in Newport Beach. He also enjoys racing his 2015 Corvette Z06 at the American Auto Assn. speedway in Pomona.
Al is now focusing on a new program, WHOLE BRAIN POWER, created by Brain Coach Michael J. Lavery. This system is designed to enhance the focus and attentiveness for those experiencing cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Al enjoys living here and has found The Towers’ community to be extremely supportive!
Friends we will dearly miss…
