President’s Message Hello Tall Pines Families! I hope that

you and your kids had a great time dressing up for Halloween, and Trick-or-Treating down Treat Street ~ weren’t they cute! And, thank you to all who came out for our Back to School dinner ~ it was really a fun night ☺

Well, here we are already into November. This is the time of year that we focus a little more on family and ask ourselves what we are truly thankful for. As adults, that’s an easy question ~ we can fill a journal with all of our answers. But, what about our kids? Have you asked your child what they are thankful for? A few years ago, my daughter’s answer was her toys ~ not a big surprise, and an answer I still hear. Then last year she made an adorable placemat that read “I am thankful for my sister.” I was completely surprised when she brought it home from school. But, it just confirmed the fact that what we do as families is so important. Making time for one another, and as we say at Tall Pines, “using our words” is crucial in raising responsible, loving children. But, it’s not all daisies and rainbows ~ my girls do argue, and this sentiment is very short-lived on some days. But, it still brings a smile to my face every time I walk by the kitchen table ☺ So, ask your children what they are thankful for ~ you may be surprised at the answer you receive. And, do it more than once a year ~ kids have a way of laying it all out on the table, and it’s enlightening to hear what they have to say. Wishing you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving ~ Nicole

Kerler’s Korner The business office continues to be

busy~ those of you who have been notified of needed paperwork, please tend to that immediately~ the state requires that your child's file needs to be complete--if we are still waiting on Mom/Dad's physical and TB, you need to trade your working day with another parent until ALL your paperwork is in. Also, remember to show your Grocery Rebate Card while you shop...Briarpatch has joined Safeway, Raleys, Save-Mart and SPD as grocery stores who are giving back to our school when you shop~ but they do require that you show your card or rebate coupon! If you have any questions, please come by the business office and ask!! We are also setting up a program with California Organics~ so whether you shop at their grocery store, eat at their restaurant or order from their deli you can earn money for our school~ Keep your eyes open for more DETAILS to come! Happy Autumn!! Nancy and Bill

A Tall Pines Christmas On Wednesday Dec 8th and Thursday Dec 9th we would like to invite grandparents and other family members to our dress rehearsal at 11:oo. Refreshments will be served. Because of tight space the evening shows are for immediate family members only. It’s just too over whelming for the little ones to have so many people- and the fire marshal may not like it either! Please bring an hors d’oeuvres or dessert to share (enough for at least 10 people).

Please practice the songs for our performance at home!

Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

The Snowman Once there was a snowman, a snowman, a snowman. Once there was a snowman,

tall, tall, tall. In the sun he melted, he melted, he melted. In the sun he melted, small, small, small.

The Little Christmas Tree One little Christmas Tree, standing all alone.

His heart was very sad, he didn’t have a home. Then CHOP went the axe, and down went the tree, and away he went,

with the happy family!

May There Always be Sunshine May there always be sunshine. May there always be blue skies. May there always be (Mommies).

May there always be me. *Repeat: insert Daddies, Families, Friends

Jingle Bells

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!

Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh,

HEY! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!

Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh,

HEY! Dashing through the snow, in a one horse open sleigh, over the fields we go, laughing all the way! Bells on bob-tail ring, making spirits bright.

What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight!

OHHH. . . .

Science with Teacher Julie Take a Fall Walk with your child to collect different types of Fall leaves. When you get home talk about how the leaves are alike and different. Match leaves and the colors of leaves. Next place a large leaf under a piece of paper and have your child rub crayons on the top of paper. The leaf print will appear for your child to see. Have Fun and enjoy the beauty of the Fall. Teacher Julie

The Goose Story This fall, when you see the geese heading sough for the winter, flying along in a “V” formation, you might be interested to know what science has discovered about why they fly that way. It has been learned that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. Thus, by flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds at least 71 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own. (Those who share a (Those who share a (Those who share a (Those who share a common direction and sense of communitycommon direction and sense of communitycommon direction and sense of communitycommon direction and sense of community can accomplish more because they are can accomplish more because they are can accomplish more because they are can accomplish more because they are traveling on the “draft” of one another.)traveling on the “draft” of one another.)traveling on the “draft” of one another.)traveling on the “draft” of one another.) Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone, and quickly get back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front. (Our work is easier when we join with (Our work is easier when we join with (Our work is easier when we join with (Our work is easier when we join with others headed in the same direction.)others headed in the same direction.)others headed in the same direction.)others headed in the same direction.) The geese at the back of the formation constantly honk to encourage those up front to maintain their speed. (Just like people!)(Just like people!)(Just like people!)(Just like people!) Finally, and this is very important, when a goose gets sick, or is wounded by gunshots and drops from the sky, two other geese immediately fall out of formation and follow it down. Moreover, they stay with their fallen companion until it is either dead or able to fly again. They then launch out on their own again or with another formation to catch up with their group. A Child’s World “When you come to our school, please remember it is a child’s world. These activities are: Their ideas Their work Their fun!! Sometimes a child’s idea of decoration, beauty, and good housekeeping does not coincide with an adult’s! A child’s imagination is great! Children can do wonderful things—paint the wind, dance like a leaf, and find joy and happiness in performing simple tasks. These are abilities that adults may have lost along the way. Enter and return for a brief visit to the wonderful world of young children. Enjoy the enthusiasm for living and learning.” -Author Unknown
