From the Editor’s Desk
Greetings!
N ew Year always begin with
something new, something
that is more meaningful than a
mere New Year resolution, per-
haps a new venture into new chal-
lenge! That’s the common experi-
ence on the 1st of January in the
Gregorian New Year.
However, New Year has not
always been on the January
1st!
As the month of July dawns, the
Toastmasters New Year com-
mences. 1st July is the beginning
of the new term in Toastmasters,
the New Year in Toastmasters’
fraternity.
So, what’s new in July to com-
memorate the Toastmasters
New Year? New goals setting?
New line of Executive Commit-
tee as the office bearer at Club,
Area, Division and District
level? And of course, a lot
more of new pinches for me to
mention, but surely the Toast-
masters New Year does bring
in new ventures to its world-
wide fraternity as much as the
Gregorian New Year does!
For me, the beginning of this
Toastmasters New Year seems
to bring me tremendous new
challenges and mark new ad-
ventures especially when I am
elected as VPPR and Editor of
Talking Matters newsletter for
this term.
This is indeed a new experi-
ence for me and this new re-
sponsibility with new challenges
will turn out to be a success
with the support and guidance
from all the Club Members.
I am however blessed as de-
spite July being the hot summer
month packaged with the de-
celerating life pace of Ramadan,
the cooperation from all Club
Members to ensure the success
of this first issue of PASSION for
the year 2013-2014 is very en-
couraging. I thank all members
for such team spirit and their
continuous support.
Though there are slight changes
to this new volume, we are try-
ing to keep this newsletter as
informative and effective as be-
fore. We decided to maintain the
name and basic design of this
newsletter to reflect our con-
sistency in branding – let our
newsletter be our PASSION and
our identity, our pride for the
years to come as much as it has
been our pride and PASSION in
the previous year.
My wish is no other than for you
to keep reading this newsletter
until the last page and take a
moment of truth to give your
valuable feedback and sugges-
tions for our improvement in
future issues of this newsletter.
Best Wishes for Year
2013-2014 & Happy Reading!

P a g e 3 Division Governor’s Message
no longer be the best.
When you start believing that
no one can beat you, you will
stop competing. You will hate
losing. Your ego will beat you.
You won’t be a winner any-
more. When you are not a
winner you cannot be the
best.
BE HUMBLE!!! If you are
humble, when you lose you
will look in to yourself. You
will try to identify your weak-
nesses. When you do that,
your weakness will become
your strength. You compete
with yourself. You will be the
best. Be humble to be the
best.
Toastmasters program teach-
es you to be humble. Toast-
masters create Leaders.
Toastmasters guide you to be
a servant leader. Once you
are a Servant Leader you will
learn to be humble.
The Talking Matters Toast-
masters Club has always been
the pioneer in setting quality
meetings. Talking Matters
under the visionary leaders
like DTM Rammohan Rai, has
been able to support the
members’ education and
club’s goals. The new set of
leaders under the competent
leadership of TM Nisha
Shivram is dynamic and ready
to take on the District 20.
The Members of Talking Mat-
ters have been doing wonder-
ful job. It’s due to the humble
leaders of Talking Matters
that they have been able to
reach the finishing line in the
best possible way.
I wish all the best to Talking
Matters Toastmasters Club
and its members to achieve
greater success and make
DIVISION E the best in Dis-
trict 20.
All the best!

Division Governor -
Division E, District 20.
In the race towards excel-
lence, there is no finish line.
But in a race, the winner is
the one who comes first.
That person is termed as the
best.
Without competition we
would not have had progress
that we witness today, and
the race is still going on.
There will always be a win-
ner, yet there will be some-
one who will perform better
and creates new record. The
race will go on… and… on...
The winner is the one who
gives his best shot. The one
who out-performs himself.
The one who sets next mile-
stone (The Goal). The one
who strives to achieve it. The
one who always feels that he
still has more in him to per-
form.
The time you feel that you
have mastered it, your desire
will vanish.
When there is no desire, the
chances are that your win-
ning streak will end. You will

Area Governor’s Message
P a g e 4
As we were about to land
at Mumbai airport early
hours of Friday, I looked
out of the window and I
could see lightning and hear
thunder. At the same time,
the pilot warned as the
weather was turbulent. All
the passengers including me
were anxious. All of us
were praying for safe land-
ing. At last, after 10 minutes
of rough travel, the pilot
and co-pilot managed to
land the aircraft safely.
Thunderous applauses fol-
lowed the safe landing. I
asked the flight attendant
for a feedback form, his
curious look and questions
amused me. The attendant
asked, “Sir, is the quality of
food poor? Is the quality of
service poor? And please
give us feedback verbally; I
assure you we will im-
prove.” I gave with a reas-
suring hand on his shoulder
and said, “I would like to
give you only positive feed-
back, do not worry.”
He gave me the feedback
form with concern and left. I
addressed the feedback form
to the pilot, Mr. Gaurav, com-
mending his skills and exper-
tise.
After reaching home, I re-
ceived a call from the pilot,
thanking me for giving feed-
back on the flight journey.
Very humbly he said that such
situation was common during
this rainy season but it was
the first time he received a
written appreciation from a
passenger.
Fellow Leaders, Toastmasters
movement taught me how to
connect with people, com-
municate my thoughts and
convey the message appropri-
ately.
In our daily walk of life, Con-
necting with people, Com-
municating our thoughts, and
Conveying the message clearly
are instrumental in building
relations. The road map to
achieve these three Cs are;
To achieve and promote
quality meetings in all the
clubs of our area.
“In our daily walk of
life, Connecting with
people, Communicating
our thoughts, and
Conveying the message
clearly are instrumental
in building relations”
To strengthen and
provide active support
to clubs which con-
duct Speech Craft,
Youth Leadership Pro-
gram and membership
drive plans.
Encourage joint meet-
ings and keep innova-
tive themes for the
regular meetings in
order to attract more
members and increase
the interest of current
members.
With these points in our
mind...
Together we can and we
will!

President’s Message
P a g e 6
“A new position of responsi-
bility will usually show a man
to be a far stronger creature
than was supposed.”
Every single incident, every
single opportunity, every ob-
stacle, every failure, every
victory in my life has trans-
formed me into a new person.
From the day I had joined
Toastmasters, I have been
involved in responsible jobs as
the VP Membership, VP Public
Relations and VP Education.
And every time a position was
assigned to me, I observed the
metamorphosis taking place
within me, making me a
stronger individual. Today,
when I have taken the baton
from my predecessors, my
responsibilities have increased
and so as the challenges.
Last year, as the Vice Presi-
dent of Education, I could
manage to take my club to the
Presidents Distinguished Club
status, with the help of my
team members and the guid-
ance of our Immediate Past
President TM Ekata
Bhatnagar. It was a team ef-
fort. Talking Matters Toast-
masters Club could not have
been a distinguished club, if
the VP Membership had not
added members to the club, if
the Treasurer had not collect-
ed fees on time, if the club
officers had not attended the
officers’ training and if the
club members had not
worked towards their educa-
tional goals.
And this is exactly what I ex-
pect from my team and the
club members in this term
also: “THE TEAM WORK”.
As the president of the club, I
promise to perform my duties
“It is time to get up and
work vigorously towards
our destination. There
will be obstacles and
differences in opinions
but all we need to do is
stay calm and stand
together as one Team”
to the best of my abilities and
take the club to greater
heights with the support of
my team and the members of
the club. We have come a
long way and the journey is
still on. We cannot stop and
take rest. It is time to get up
and work vigorously towards
our destination. There will be
obstacles and differences in
opinions but all we need to
do is stay calm and stand to-
gether as one Team.
With this I congratulate TM
Ekata Bhatnagar and the past
Ex-Com for the outstanding
work they have done and
wish the current Ex-Com all
the best for the term 2013 –
2014.
TM Nisha Shivram,
CC, CL

TM Nisar Latif has achieved SECOND PLACE in the

Message from the Immediate
Past President confidence level was sinking
and so were my inherent and
acquired skills. A strong urge
to scrap off the rust and the
gathered dust that were
masking my abilities, brought
me to Toastmasters.
When I joined TMTM my aim
was to get back my lost touch
by relearning and practicing
both communication skills
and leadership abilities. And
TMTM offered me ample op-
portunities to learn and grow.
My last year in particular as
the President of TMTM was
the most enriching and satis-
fying experience. Today, after
four years when I look back, I
can see that I have come a
long way. But when I look at
my fellow Toastmasters and
my seniors, I feel I have just
begun and have a long way
ahead...
Every individual joins Toast-
masters with a purpose. And
this purpose can be easily
achieved by active participa-
tion in the club activities. My
message for the new mem-
bers is that make use of every
single opportunity that comes
your way and try to perform
every role to the best of your
abilities. You can do this by
following two simple steps:
1. Refer to your manuals and
prepare for each role as per
the guidelines.
2. Add your pinch of creativi-
ty, your flavor to the roles
you perform.
To the new Ex-Com, I would
like to say that it’s the mem-
bers who form the club and
it’s the club that reforms the
members. Try to retain all
the members of the club, old
as well as new. That’s per-
haps the biggest challenge
that we are facing today. Top
Class functioning of the club
and quality meetings should
be your mantra. Success will
eventually follow.
My best wishes to President
TM Nisha Shivram, her team
and all the members of Talk-
ing Matters Toastmasters
Club for the year ahead.
Best Regards
TM Ekata Bhatnagar, CC
Immediate Past President
Ramadan Kareem!
My best wishes to all the
members of Talking Matters
on the commencement of
the new term 2013-14.
This year in August I will be
completing my 4 years with
Talking Matters. A journey
that I will always be proud of!
I consider my decision of
joining Talking Maters Toast-
masters Club as a perfectly
timed appropriate decision, a
decision that I will always
boast about.
Toastmasters came into my
life when I was going through
a personal mental turmoil.
My family has always been my
priority and so I chose to
stay at home after working
for six long years. Though it
was tough to stay away from
my work life, I thoroughly
enjoyed my role as a home
maker initially. My little son
was my new project, a 24X7
job that demanded deep in-
volvement. In spite of my
new role being a satisfying
one, somewhere deep in my
heart I always missed my
work life. And more than
anything else what bothered
me most was the rust that
was building on to me. My
“Every individual joins
Toastmasters with a
purpose. And this
purpose can be easily
achieved by active
participation in the
club activities. My
message for the new
members is that make
use of every single
opportunity that comes
your way and try to
perform every role to
the best of your
abilities”
Leadership is the ability to get men to do what they don't want to and like it.

Message from Ex-Com
P a g e 8
Last year was quite an event-
ful one with lots of new
promising members joining
the club and changing our
venue and all. It made us feel
we were having a roller coast-
er ride… with many ups and
downs.
In the midst of all this and
being the Vice President
Membership of our club dur-
ing the last term, I can proud-
ly say that we added close to
20 new members and Talking
Matters was recognized with
Smedley’s Award. Talking
Matters was also recognized
in the district level for mar-
keting excellence, thanks to
the efforts of our Past VP
Education TM Nisha and Im-
mediate Past President TM
Ekata. All these efforts have
eventually led us to receive
enough DCP points to
achieve the ‘Presidents Distin-
guished Club’ recognition by
the end of our last term. Our
roller coaster ride managed
to end the year on a high
note…
Now we have entered our
new term with lots of dreams
and ambitions. We have had a
wonderful start with 2 new
members joining in our very
first meeting. As I have taken
up the highly responsible posi-
tion of the Vice President
Education this term, it is my
duty to ensure that all our
meetings run smoothly and
that all the members are given
equal and enough opportuni-
ties to present and nurture
their speech and leadership
talents.
I will also give importance to
leadership roles performed by
our members during regular
meetings and ensure that they
get their roles evaluated and
credited.
“All these efforts have
eventually led us to
receive enough DCP
points to achieve the
‘Presidents
Distinguished Club’
recognition by the end
of our last term. Our
roller coaster ride
managed to end the
year on a high note”
I am of the opinion that the
Mentors take a bit more re-
sponsibility for the projects
done by their respective
Mentees. For this the Mentors
must feel a sense of pride
while their Mentees are per-
forming and when they see
their guidance and efforts
fulfilled. Mentors are im-
portant leaders in any club
and they should receive their
due credit and respect. It will
be on top of my agenda for
the year that this happens.
With gleaming eyes, let’s look
into our future and expect the
best to come out of it…

Vice President Membership
I joined Talking Matters Toastmasters Club at the end of last year. It was quite new to me
as I feel like I just attended the first meeting as guest and now I am the VP Membership. I
take this opportunity to thank everybody in the Club for supporting me, especially the
current and Immediate Past President.
As the Vice President Membership of Talking Matters, I would like to request all members to spread the word of Toast-
masters in your Social and Professional Circle, explain and make them feel they have some leadership capability in them
and bring them as guest in to the world of Toastmaster; a good learning experience in leadership.

Message from Ex-Com
Some people and events have
left everlasting impressions on
the canvas of my life. TM Eka-
ta (Immediate Past President)
is one of those people. She
comes with a full package of
help, leadership and team
spirit. I felt that every mem-
ber of Ex-Com was very
comfortable and confident
playing respective role under
her leadership. All Ex-Com
members supported me and
my tasks to be on the top of
the success level. I enjoyed
working with Nisha, Aneesh,
Deepak, Omer and Nilesh.
The senior leadership played
a vital role in the success of
Ex-Com team. Rammohan
Rai, Sonny Varghese, MM
Thomas, Paul Easy, Mina Easy
and many others were always
ready to lead by example. I
am really touched by their
dedication, passion and care
for the development of oth-
ers.
What I learned during this
period, tried to translate into
my professional success. By
the grace of God I got pro-
moted to next level in my
organization and it will be
unfair if I don't give credit to
my learning from Toastmas-
ters program. Learning is a
never ending process and that
will last till the last breath.
I'll take this opportunity to
congratulate and welcome
the new Ex-Com of Talking
Matters Toastmasters Club.
Let us all support them, assist
them and work with them
because their success is our
success. I am sure they with
write another marvelous sto-
ry of glory during this term.
Ramadan Kareem and EID
Mubarak in advance.
TM Nisar Latif, CC
VP Public Relations (2012-13)
Every start has an end and
every end gives birth to an-
other start. With the end of
our tenure, the new Ex-Com
team has taken charge with
the new passion and promise
to move the club on next
higher level. Being VP-PR for
Talking Matters Club was an
exciting journey for me. A
journey filled with challenges,
thrills and lovely moments.
Most importantly this was a
journey of self-discovery
where by default I got many
opportunities to test my lim-
its.
I've enjoyed every bit of tasks
performed being in the team
as member and as leader too.
It was totally new experience
for me to be directly respon-
sible of releasing newsletter,
publish photos of others on
the same night of the meet-
ing, attending Ex-Com meet-
ing, promoting club initiatives
being leader of several initia-
tives taken by the club.

ending process and that

As a Treasurer this year I aim
for the stability of the club
finance and will try to im-
prove our comfort. Without
members' help it would not
be possible to achieve.
In order to achieve financial
stability, I would like to in-
form all members that dues to
the Toastmasters Internation-
al are to be paid twice a year,
by the end of October and
March. We would appreciate
your timely payments
throughout the year. This
would help us to plan the cash
flow accordingly and hopefully
will result in second goal
achievement.
We are intensively looking for
a bigger venue to accommo-
date all our members and
guests with comfort. Without
your support it would not be
possible. Please feel free to
inform the Club's Treasurer if
you know any good venue,
where we can potentially real-
locate. Advices are welcome,
as we want to ensure maxi-
mum comfort for everybody.
Treasurer will also require a
support throughout the year.
If anybody is willing to take
this role and help the club,
please let Treasurer or Presi-
dent know. This role will help
to improve your leadership
“One mind is good, but
two are better”
skills, will keep you motivated
and would allow you to par-
ticipate in our Club's future.
Thank you for all your sup-
port and I am always available
to help you and for your feed-
back. If you see any oppor-
tunity for Treasurer to im-
prove, please, let me know.
One mind is good, but two
are better. Your ideas are
valuable and will be appreciat-

Vice President Public Relations
I think I was literally possessed by her persuasive skills and before I knew it, I was already the VP-PR of the Club! I started with
zero knowledge and experience when I took up this role. I should express my gratitude to the Immediate Past President, TM
Ekata Bhatnagar, President, TM Nisha Shivram and Past VP-PR, TM Nisar Latif, for all their guidance and support from the very
moment I agreed to take up this role.
There were times when I thought of quitting and withdrawing from the position and discontinue my membership from the
Club. There was even one night that I had nightmare with TM Ekata and TM Nisha in my dream, punishing and torturing me
because this newsletter didn’t come out well. However, if you are reading this message in our newsletter, it should signify that I
am still taking up this role and did not quit, but I just hope that my nightmare will not come true!
Best regards,
TM Suhanida Gani
Vice President Public Relations
When TM Nisha Shivram proposed to nominate my name as the next Ex-Com exactly one
month after I officially joined Talking Matters, I was contemplating if I should take up the lead-
ership role. I told her that I had never done creative writing or newsletters before, I was very
new and I didn’t know anything about Toastmasters, and after all I was not sure if I will be ca-
pable to carry out the responsibilities as the VP-PR, as taking up a role is not just about the
title, but it’s more on the commitment and contribution that I should assume with that title. I
replied to her saying that I will need sometimes to think about it, and she replied back,
“Someday you have to take up some role, so why not this time?”

Farewell, TM Venkatesh Rao There are no goodbyes for us, wherever you are, you'll always be in my heart..
- Mahatma Gandhi - On April 24th 2013, Talking Matters Toastmasters Club Meeting No. 229 was attended by many seasoned Toastmasters to bid
farewell to our Past President, TM Venkatesh Rao who left Qatar for good.
TM Venkatesh Rao is a very talented speaker. He has won many contests during the early years of Talking Matters. In year 2004-

LOL - Humorous Skit Contest Division E “LOL - Humorous Skit Contest” was held on 19th June 2013. Talking Matters LOL Team led by TM Nisar Latif has
participated in the contest with TM Anshu Jain, TM Deepak Narawadee and TM Suhanida Gani as the casts with the guidance of
the Humorous Champion, TM Vinodh Pisharom as the Advisor. TM Ekata Bhatnagar and TM Nisha Shivram have also been the
important “Ladies Behind the Scene” to this skit and have supported the team throughout the contest preparations.
Talking Matters did not win any award during the contest, however, the spirit and passion shown by the team were superb. After
all, taking the challenge itself is more valuable than the trophy, and that was indeed the first winning milestone!
