Using Conditional Merges

Page 18: Talisma CRM © Campaign Overview Mailers Mailing Lists 1Proprietary and Confidential

Proprietary and Confidential 18

• Use to merge data elements when desired output differs in Object instances or when missing data would leave undesired empty space− First<sp>Middle<sp>Last becomes

First<sp><sp>Last if the Middle property is null− Solution is to create two Conditional Merge

elements• First<sp>Middle<sp>Last if Middle is not null• First<sp>Last if Middle is null

Conditional Merge Elements

Page 19: Talisma CRM © Campaign Overview Mailers Mailing Lists 1Proprietary and Confidential

Proprietary and Confidential 19

• Resulting Mailer Template Text

− Resulting merge with Middle Name

− Resulting Merge without Middle Name

Conditional Merge Elements

Page 20: Talisma CRM © Campaign Overview Mailers Mailing Lists 1Proprietary and Confidential

Proprietary and Confidential 20

• Unsatisfied Conditional Merge Elements will always be null – nothing will be inserted in the mailer

• Any satisfied Conditional Merge Element will be followed by a carriage return− It is not possible to insert a Conditional Merge

element in a line− The Conditional Merge Element must always be a

complete line or paragraph− Do not follow a Conditional Merge Element with a

carriage return unless your intention is to display a blank line.

Special Considerations for Conditional Merges

Page 21: Talisma CRM © Campaign Overview Mailers Mailing Lists 1Proprietary and Confidential

Proprietary and Confidential 21

• Create a new Mailer• Name the mailer XX – Cond Merge• Write a message to the constituent confirming

the constituent’s full name – First Middle Last• Use a conditional Merge to properly format the

full name – ‘First Last’ or ‘First Middle Last’ as appropriate
