What is periodontitis?More than half of adults worldwide suffer from some form of periodontitis. This is a chronic infectious condition, which damages first the soft tissue and, if not stopped, the bone – leading to bleeding and receding gums, aesthetic issues (such as 'longer' teeth), chewing problems and eventually tooth loss. It has also been linked to other illnesses, such as diabetes and heart disease.

Gelcide treatment2

Treatments such as scaling and root planning (SRP) have been available since the 1960s and they are relatively successful at keeping tooth loss at bay, mostly when combined with the use of antibiotics. Up to now, the norm has been to supply the active agents orally, a method that can mean quite a lot of disruption for patients. On top of enduring frequent (and often uncomfortable) dental procedures, they must obtain and self-administer oral antibiotics and then follow up treatment at home – usually every 8 hours for up to 10 days. They may also suffer side effects, such as gastrointestinal problems, and may be subject to increased antibiotic resistance, which may cause future health problems.

This is why we have developed Gelcide, which offers a more effective – and easier – treatment for periodontitis. Your dentist applies the gel at the actual site of infection, where it stays for the length of the treatment, allowing the body to heal. This means no unpleasant side effects or the need for follow-up treatments at home – or indeed any changes to your day-to-day life. And an added bonus? As the outcome is more predictable, visits to the dentist can be reduced dramatically!

Patients who switch to Gelcide can benefit from:

• Immediate results, and a reduction (or no) bleeding in the gums. • More effective treatment (and fewer visits to the dentist).• Less discomfort and lower costs.• Less chance of bacterial resistance to antibiotics compared to standard oral

antibiotics treatment.• No need to buy antibiotics at the pharmacy nor take them at home 3 times

a day over 10 days.• No side effects from oral antibiotics.3
