ABOUTMEIworkasaBACP(Accred)CounsellorandQualifiedClinicalSupervisor.Iqualifiedin2005asaGeneralPractitionerandveryquicklyrecognisedacommondenominatorbetweenthemajorityofmyclients- lowself-esteem,poorbodyimageandproblemswithassertiveness(theytendedtouseangerasawayofcommunicatingorwereeasilyintimidatedand/orbentagainsttheirwill).Somanyofmyclientswerepresentinginthisway,withself-loathingandalimitedabilitytobekindtothemselves.Furthermore,Iwasworkingwithalotofclientswhowereclinicallyobeseorpainfullyskinnyandlearntveryquicklythateventheonespresentingwithnormalbodyweightwereoftenabusing
themselvesbyself-harmingandsubstanceabuse,poordiet- oftencoupledwithdifficultandchallengingrelationshipswiththemselvesandothers,andwereclearlyusingfood
toself-medicate,eitherbyovereatingorindeedundereating.
WhenconsideringalloftheaboveIfeltverystronglythatIneededtoembarkonfurthertrainingandin2007ItrainedasaMasterPractitionerinEatingDisordersandObesity,atTheNationalCentreforEatingDisorders(NCFED).IamnowaRegisteredSupervisorandcurrentlyattendingthecurrentyear’strainingcourseasanassistanttoDeanneJade,PrincipalandFounderoftheNCFED,inordertoensuremyskillsremaincuttingedge.
WHYDIDIDEVELOPTHISCOURSE?
Quitesimply,IhaveexperiencedalotofsuccessbyusingDeanne Jade’sup-to-datemethodsofpsychologiesthatIwastaughtinmytrainingforallformsofaddictive/self-sabotagingbehaviourandIhavelearntthatinordertohavesustainedchangeitisvitalthatself-esteem,poorbodyimageandlackofassertivenessareaddressed.Indeed,itisessentialtogainanunderstandingbehindthereasonswebehaveaswedo,inordertocreatesustainedchange.IbelievepassionatelyinwhatIdo,andinorderformorepeopletohaveaccesstoadeeperunderstandingofthemselvesandothers,and
developatoolboxfilledwith‘toolsforchange’,Ihavedevelopedthiscourse.ItisbuiltfromtheNCFED’spioneeringtrainingandtheconceptthat,unlesswechangeour
thoughtsandbehaviours,theverythingsthatrestrictusfromreachingourfullpotentialwillcontinuetolimitlong-termsuccess.
