Take TenIn just ten minutes, we can show you ten intelligent ways to put a successful sleep therapy program together for many of your patients.
A sleeping threat to your patientsObstructive sleep apnea, or “OSA,” impacts the lives of tens of millions of
adult men and women globally. Unfortunately, most are unaware of their
condition and far too many cases are unrecognized and untreated. Those who
suffer with OSA stop breathing repeatedly during sleep because their airway
collapses as they relax. Many experience 30 or more of these apneas each and
every hour. This may dramatically compromise a person’s quality and quantity
of sleep, along with their quality of life.
The clinical importance of OSA diagnosisIn addition to feeling excessively tired and irritable, studies suggest that those
who suffer with OSA are at increased risk of developing comorbidities such
as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other serious health conditions as
their sleep continues to be interrupted. As a healthcare professional, you can
certainly appreciate the value of early diagnosis.
What we can do togetherWhen healthcare professionals such as you initiate the conversation about
OSA during routine visits with your patients and encourage those experiencing
symptoms to participate in a sleep study, they may be on their way toward
restored energy and health. Working with you as part of the patient care
team, sleep lab professionals diagnose OSA and determine therapy. Homecare
providers then set up and help familiarize your patients with their therapy, and
make sure equipment is fi tting and functioning properly. What we do is
provide the care team with intelligent solutions that include the Philips
Respironics Sleep Therapy System. Our new system not only delivers effective
therapy to help restore sleep, energy and quality of life for patients, but also
gives the care team essential information needed to manage patient care and
achieve long-term compliance.
Take TenIn just a few short minutes, we’ll walk through the benefi ts of the Philips
Respironics Sleep Therapy System. We’ll show you ten ways that it provides
smarter therapy for your patients and helps you make the most intelligent
patient management decisions possible.
An intelligent approach to sleep therapyPhilips Respironics provides you with a comprehensive sleep
therapy system that gives you the ability to provide your
patients with the most intelligent care possible. Our advanced
sleep therapy device is designed to be simple to operate,
yet sophisticated enough to know when, why and how your
patients’ therapy needs to be adjusted to provide the most
effective and comfortable therapy possible. To give you access
to vital patient data, our Encore patient management system
puts everything you need right at your fi ngertips – even while
your patient is sleeping. And because each patient has unique
features and needs, our full line of patient masks has been
developed to achieve the best fi t and comfort level possible.
Our variety of advanced therapy technologies – from CPAP to
bi-level and our proven Flex pressure relief technologies – help
your patient adapt to therapy and stick with it for long-term
results. It’s all an intelligent approach to patient care
that may lead to better health and better quality of life.
1. Managing your patients’ sleep
Intelligent sleep management starts with intelligent tools.
Encore is a software-based patient management system from
Philips Respironics and is part of the Sleep Therapy System.
It’s simple to use. It’s powerful in its ability to provide you
with essential patient data. And it can be indispensible in
helping you make smarter, more informed decisions about
each patient’s care. Here is just one example of
the intelligence that Encore puts at your fi ngertips.
2. Monitoring basic functions
The highly advanced Encore patient management system
tracks and reports patient compliance, therapy pressure
and more – including basic OSA events like the number of
apneas a patient experiences each hour. It also provides
you with information about mask leak which may indicate a
required adjustment to the mask or pressure. As a result,
you always have an accurate picture of your patient’s therapy
and know exactly what adjustments may be required.
3. Getting advanced notice
The system knows when patient therapy needs are
evolving – and it’s smart enough to make sure that you
know, too. The advanced event detection technology
monitors patient activity and detects when more complex
events such as clear airway apneas and periodic breathing
– such as Cheyne-Stokes Respiration – occur. These
events are often linked with comorbid heart conditions.
The reporting function promptly and automatically
updates the care team when a patient may require
changes in therapy, allowing you and your team to
respond quickly and effi ciently.

4. Simplifying humidifi cation management
The new Philips Respironics Sleep Therapy
System has two advanced humidifi cation
features to provide maximum patient comfort
and to preserve the device’s performance.
The fi rst, System One Humidity Control,
preserves consistent humidifi cation levels – even
in changing environmental conditions. It analyzes
ambient temperature, relative humidity, and
fl ow to deliver the optimum level of humidity
while dramatically reducing rainout. The
second, Dry Box technology, keeps the water
source isolated from the inner workings of the
device, even during routine movement with a
fi lled chamber.
If you’ve had patients on pressure therapy
for OSA before, chances are you’ve heard of
Respironics Flex technology. Flex pressure
relief technologies have brought a new level of
comfort to every breath for millions of sleep
therapy patients around the world by making
pressure therapy as close to natural breathing
as possible. In fact, patients have shown proven
compliance of greater than four hours when
using Flex technologies.* CPAP, auto-CPAP
and bi-level therapy can all be made more
comfortable and natural for your patients
through Flex technologies. And that
contributes to better therapy, better
compliance, and better lives.

5. Relieving pressure for proven compliance
6. Maximizing patient comfort
The real brains behind this intelligent sleep therapy system
is the unique, clinically-proven algorithm known as Digital
Auto-Trak Sensitivity. This highly sensitive algorithm is what
actually tracks and responds to each and every breath,
making the Respironics Flex pressure relief technologies
possible. Digital Auto-Trak detects the onset of inspiration
and expiration and instructs the device to provide just the
right amount of pressure relief at just the right moment.
The result is therapy that mimics natural breathing and
is as comfortable as possible.
7. Maintaining effective therapy
Short-term and long-term changes in the patient’s
condition often lead to many limitations with
traditional fi xed CPAP. Ideally, therapy would
continually adapt to changing needs and deliver
pressure in response to partial and total closure
of the upper airway. The Philips Respironics Auto
technology, using a uniquely sophisticated and
clinically proven three-layered algorithm, provides
subtle proactive and reactive adjustments to
achieve the required effect of therapy at minimal
pressure. The result is effective and comfortable
therapy over the short and long term.

A sleep therapy system is more than a device; it is a comprehensive
system of software, hardware, tubing, and masks. System One
Resistance Control is software that knows how to optimize the
device’s pressure delivery for any Philips Respironics mask. With
simple settings, it instructs the therapy device to compensate for
variable resistance characteristics related to different masks. In
doing so, the device is always able to deliver the full benefi ts of
Flex comfort settings no matter which mask is used.

wealth of vital information at your fi ngertips.
You can trust that there is one system hard at
work as an extension of your team, monitoring
and adjusting to your patients’ changing needs
throughout each night and providing them with
optimum ongoing care. It’s intelligent patient
care that can help to achieve better patient
outcomes. And that’s always #1 on our top
ten list.

10. Giving patients something they can live with
A therapy system is only effective if your patients
use it. Philips Respironics has gone to great
lengths to assure that the new Sleep Therapy
System not only performs well but is also intuitive
and easy to use, simple to maintain, durable, and
aesthetically pleasing. And we support that system
with a host of helpful educational materials that
you can provide to your patients, including
patient-friendly user manuals, product instruction
videos, and OSA therapy education materials.
These pieces have been developed to help
familiarize your patients with sleep therapy and
to help them to become comfortable with the
system. Like you, our goal is to help make their
therapy experience better and, ultimately, their
lives happier and healthier.
