Watching videos on the Internet that constantly stop and start can be frustrating. There are a number of different things that can cause videos to play inconsistently:

1. Content ProvidersContent providers such as YouTube and Netflix push out Internet demanding content. If they are getting more requests to watch videos than they can handle, it could delay the transfer of the video to your screen causing it to pause or buffer until enough of it can download for you to view. You may want to try waiting until requests have slowed down and try to play the video again. 2. Internet SpeedVideo files are typically large and require more Internet speed or bandwidth. Content providers recommend minimum speeds to view their content, and failure to meet these will likely cause videos to be poor quality or have frequent stops and starts. These recommended guidelines are for one device and in today’s households, it is common to have several devices connected to the Internet at a time. Finding the appropriate speed to match your household’s Internet usage habits will give you the best Internet experience.3. Your Home NetworkMany home routers are only meant to handle a couple devices at a time and can get quickly overloaded if a family connects all their devices to one router. Use a router that is equipped to handle a heavy traffic load if you are in a household that consumes a lot of data.

Also secure your router to prevent anyone outside of your household from accessing your network. 4. Activity on Your ComputerWatching videos over the Internet uses computing resources, so it is a good practice to close out any web pages and programs that you are not using. Also make sure that any applicable web plugins, such as Java and Adobe Flash player, are updated to their latest versions. Keeping your computer virus and spyware free will also help your videos download and play more smoothly. It is recommended that you have your computer routinely checked for viruses even if you have an anti-virus program on your system.

MynameisAngieLohrenzandIwork at NU-Telecom’s Hutchinson office. I have been a Sales and Support Associate for seven years and enjoy my job because there

I like the challenges of my job too, as there is always something new to learn. It keeps my mind young! I also enjoy the people throughout the company – they’re all top notch and a pleasure to work with. When I’m not at work, I like spending time with my husband, Wes, my children, our 11 grandchildren, and walking my dog Bailey. Wes and I enjoy riding our Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveling, and I enjoy

going to community theatre productions with friends. I participate on a committee at my church and read to kindergartners as part of the United Way Dolly Parton ImaginationLibraryprogram.

If you use Microsoft Windows XP or Office 2003, you should be aware that Microsoft will be ending its support for these operating systems on April 8, 2014. Microsoft will no longer provide new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates.

You can continue to use Windows XP, but it’s not recommended since your computer might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Microsoft strongly recommends you become current with Windows and Office. NU-Telecom’s TechTeam is available to assist you with upgrading your software or finding a new computer to fit your needs. To find what version you are using and for complete details visit http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/end-support-help.
