“I just want a facial,” the woman said with irritation. “I don’t know why you need to know that.”
And there you have it. The universal challenge of every therapist on planet Earth: helping clients understand that facials are much more than a “feel good, look good” treatment.
Facials work with the largest organ of your body: the skin. Every medication you take as well as your lifestyle choices—even your emo-tions—are filtered through your skin.
That’s why therapists ask those “pesky” questions. The better she understands you, the better she understands your skin and how to treat it.
That means the results from your facial will be far more beneficial because it was tailored to meet the specific needs of your skin. Results, too, will last longer, as long as you continue your pre-scribed home care routine.
Here are 7 questions that signal you’re working with a professional:
What’s your at-home skin care routine?
What prescription medica-tions are you taking? Any topicals like Retin A?
Any health problems?
Any adverse reactions to products or ingredients?
Your lifestyle: Do you smoke? If so, how much? Do you eat a lot of processed foods?
When was the last time you had a facial?
Are you currently seeing a dermatologist?
There you have it. Seven questions that signal you’re working with a professional.
And remember, even if your therapist has been working with you for a long time, she will still want to be up-dated on any changes to your health.
So reap the benefits of working with a pro. And just let your face do the talking!

The word “hydration” or “hydrating” has been a buzzword in both
the cosmetic and aesthetic field for decades. We have had
hydrating creams, serums and treatments for as long as I can
remember.
Before we define the actual meaning of “hydrate,” let’s look at a
similar word that is a complete misnomer: moisturiser.
Technically, there is no such thing as a moisturiser, especially in
cream form.
For dry skin sufferers, creams do provide temporary relief for at least a few hours. That awful tight feeling
eases up and skin feels moist and supple, but not for long.
So why doesn’t that wonderful feeling last? Think of it this way. Those dead skin cells on your face are like
the little dried up sponges you find under your kitchen sink. You can rub the most expensive “moisturisers”
on your face all day long and nothing will really happen except those dried up sponges become greasy.
Soak those same sponges in water and they puff up nice and soft, then let them dry out for a while and it
returns to its dry, wrinkled state again. That’s exactly what happens to your skin. New living cells beneath
the surface are larger than the dead cells sitting on your skin.
When the skin is cleansed and nothing is applied, those dead cells shrink and feel tight. The urge to apply a
cream to break this tension—and it does—makes your skin feel moisturized. Unfortunately, it’s only greased
or lubricated.
Skincare No-No’s! We know we’re not your mum and we certainly wouldn’t try to tell you to eat your peas! But, when it comes to skincare, we so get on a soapbox about helping you to look younger.
Over-Exfoliation
Yes, please do exfoliate! Just don’t overdo it. Aggressive exfoliation leads to dry, rough skin. Fragile capillaries can get damaged causing a flushed look to your face.
The Right Skincare
This is a biggie! Did you know that almost 50% of women misdiagnose their skin type? Get the right products and see faster results!
Skin Below Your Chin
While your whole body needs moisturising, don’t forget your throat and chest area. The skin here is thin and needs lots of moisturising!

Melasma / Uneven Skin Tone
Melasma is a very common skin condition that appears as large blotches—tan or dark
skin discoloration on the face—an uneven skin tone.
Melasma may be caused by sun exposure, pregnancy, and oral contraceptives. Sun
exposure is also a strong risk factor for melasma.
Melasma treatments are performed daily at our Upper Mt Gravatt clinic. All Integrity
treatments are safe and TGA approved.
Non-surgical Medical Aesthetic Treatments for Treating

Understanding skin
Your skin is your largest organ. In fact, the average Australian adult has two
square metres of it.
It is also your first line of defence against damaging sunlight, unsafe
chemicals, harsh temperatures, harmful bacteria and other organisms you
encounter every minute of every day.
However, because your skin is an external organ, it can be easily damaged and
disfigured.
Learning more about your skin will help you take better care of it, so it can
function as well as possible, and age as it should, not before its time.

The SPF ("sun protection factor") listed on a bottle of
sunscreen is a measure of how well the product protects your
skin from the sun's shorter-wave ultraviolet B (UVB)
radiation. Technically, it is the ratio of how long you could spend
in the sun before burning when you're protected by sunscreen,
compared to when you don't have that protection.

Did You Know This About Valentine's Day...?
According to legend, there were 3 Saint Valentines. One was a
priest, one a bishop and we know very little about the third. We do
know that all were martyrs. According to one legend, St. Valentine
(take your pick), was executed by a Roman emperor because of
his beliefs. Supposedly, before he died, he left a note for a loved
one signed, "From Your Valentine."
