CertifiedEnergyRatersusespecialvariable-speedfanstoperformcomputerizedblowerdoortests.Allexteriorwindowsanddoorsareclosed,andthefanisinstalledinthefrontdoorwithaspecialairtightseal.Asthefanisturnedon,theEnergyRatermonitorstheflowofairthroughthefan,aswellastheairpressureinsideyourhome.

Oncethehomeissealedandevenlypressurized,it'seasytodetectexactlywhereairleaksareoccur-ring.Whileyouwouldprobablyexpecttofinddraftsaroundwindowsanddoors,youmightbesurprisedthataircanleakaroundelectricaloutlets,plumbingpipes,andrightthroughthestructureitself.
