WHAT DESIGNERS SHOULD CONSIDER TO MAKE PRODUCTS MORE ECO -

FRIENDLY.

Using the minimum number of different materials

Color coding parts which aids disassembly

*Labeling*

Using materials which can be recycled• plastics

Avoiding adhesives and coatings• Difficult or impossible to recycle and take apart

materials.

WHAT DESIGNERS SHOULD CONSIDER TO MAKE PRODUCTS MORE ECO -

FRIENDLY.

Re-usable parts and materials• Saves money- do not need to make more parts by re-

using old parts

Making the products as small as possible, keeping

in mind that the performance should not be

impaired.

Using Materials which can be fully recycled.

The Home Appliance Recycling Law

• Began in 2001• Televisions, Washing Machines, Refrigerators, and

Air Conditioners• Requires that 55% is recycled

JAPAN• Process

• Consumers buy recycle tickets from the post office $24• They take the washing machine to retailers with the

coupon• The fee is transferred to the producers

• The producers can either recycle the washing machines themselves or pay a third party to do so for them. *Norway
