Tai-Chi Kuo, JD, MBA 2020 Delegate Candidate for the Midwest Region American Solidarity Party Hello! My name is Tai-Chi Kuo. I am a married, Chinese American Evangelical Christian living in the Chicagoland area, and I am running for midwestern delegate at the 2020 Convention. For the past several years, I’ve served on the American Solidarity Party National Committee (SNC) in the capacity of either Vice-Treasurer (2018-19) or Treasurer (2019-20). I also served concurrently on the ASP-Illinois (ASP-IL) Committee during this time. Serving on the SNC has been one of the best experiences of my life. I have learned a lot from governance and organizational perspectives and had the opportunity to work with some truly tremendous people. However, I also believe that the skills to successfully steward our Party’s finances must be passed down to ensure that we always have someone who can perform these essential tasks, and with that in-mind I will not be running for re-election to the SNC at end of my term (in June), with hopes of training and supporting the incoming Treasurer. I will be staying involved both locally, in ASP-IL, and hopefully at the national-level as one of your midwestern delegates. I first began my journey into politics after hearing a message on the subject of “Public Faith” exhorting Christians not to withdraw from public service, but to engage deeply with American society on the pressing issues of our times. I found and joined the American Solidarity Party in the summer of 2017 after a very disappointing 2016 Presidential Election where I reluctantly supported the Johnson-Weld ticket. Since that time, I have been active as an ASP-IL officer, and was elected to our SNC in 2018. I have also coordinated/hosted our 2020 ASP Presidential Primary Debates, written for our party blog on Illinois’ dangerous new abortion law and on standing against the increase in religious freedom challenges from “both sides” of the political spectrum, and serve on the Social Media Team for Brian Carroll’s 2020 Presidential Campaign. The issues I am most passionate about include Religious Freedom, Faith in the Public Square, Asian American issues, and Greater China issues. Professionally, I have worked in Project Management and Business Analysis-related roles for over ten years on numerous Financial Services, Technology, and Legal projects. I hold a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Business Administration from the University of 1

Q&A

Re: My vision for the next Stage of Party development: The American Solidarity Party will always be a grassroots-led organization. However, it is                         undeniable that we have grown both numerically and in level of experience from a largely social                               media-based network focused on running largely-symbolic races to one where sustained local                       activity is ongoing at an individual and team-level in areas such as Ohio, California, Utah, Texas,                               Georgia, and Florida. As such, I believe organizationally, the ASP-USA has FIVE goals in its next                               stage of development:

1. Develop and expand the ASP's fundraising network above and beyond our existing                       micro-transaction base, which can be introduced to ASP local, state, & national-level                       political committees to fund their campaigns,

2. Develop think-tanks to analyze federal-level legislation and produce detailed policy                   whitepapers & content that may be used by aspirants to national office,

3. Obtain Federal Election Commission recognition as a Party Committee (raising our                     contribution limits & national profile),

4. Continuing to develop familiarity & expertise with Federal Election Commission                   requirements (both financial constraints as well as constraints on Committee activities), &

5. Provide leadership to support the development and maturing of state Solidarity Parties,                       including coordinating state legislation & policy review to develop localized ASP policy,                       mentoring state & local leaders on the functioning of party and political committees,                         connecting in-state supporters and aspirants to their local Solidarity Party network

Re: Whom I would support for National Committee: From experience, I can say that serving on an Executive Body like this does require passion and                                 skill, but more importantly, personal sacrifice and commitment. To obtain my support, aspiring                         National Committee members must indicate their willingness to dedicate at minimum 3-4 hrs per                           week to "Party Business" (on a light week), with the expectation that Party Business may consume                               upwards of 10+ hrs/week during a particularly busy time. Please note that "Party Business" ought                             not include social media debates on current events (unless that is actually your stated-role), but                             rather, tasks like chairing meetings (in-person or remote), communicating with vendors, updating                       internal best practices documents, etc. These nuts and bolts are extremely important in the                           running of a Political Committee, and will be important to maintain as we strive to compete in                                 additional elections as well as obtain Party Committee status with the FEC.

Re: My position on whether to retain a Statement of Principles: I am not opposed to a Statement of Principles, but my support would vary depending on the stated                                   purpose(s) of such a document, as proposed to the Convention.  I would NOT support a Statement of Principles which functions as a litmus test for membership.  I would support a Statement of Principles which functions as a GUIDE for party and individual                               candidate platforms.   Re: What should be on any Statement of Principles: I believe any Statement of Principles adopted by the American Solidarity Party should contain the                             following elements:

1. A principled commitment to Pro-Life policies from conception until natural death

2. A principled commitment to Restorative, Reparative Racial Justice for previous wrongs                     and lingering effects, as well as emergent issues

3. A principled commitment to the preservation of Traditional Family Values (i.e. Marriage,                       Private & Home-schooling, Parental Guidance) and Religious Freedom

4. A principled commitment to Peaceful Resolution of Armed Conflicts where possible and                       Just War where it is not

5. A principled commitment to Environmental Sustainability

6. A principled commitment to foster the development of a well-regulated Market which                       provides for both the economic flourishing of everyone, as well as new opportunities to                           personally succeed

Re: Whether I would support additional Platform Revisions: Not at this time. May consider small, limited changes, especially to the economics section.  Will not consider removal of Marriage-related content. Our current position (to support                       Traditional Marriage within the existing context, without pushing for an Obergefell repeal) is                         already a great, distinct middle-ground between the GOP position (to push for an Obergefell                           repeal), and the DNC position (of removing the "Traditional" and imposing new era morality).
