PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The Tahoe Donner Board of Directors is very pleased to announce that Jim Stang has been appointed to fulfill the term of Suzy Kinsley who resigned from the board for per-sonal reasons. As we wish Suzy goodbye, we welcome Jim who has a wealth of experience in the private sector and at Tahoe Donner. Jim has served on and been Chairman of the Finance Committee, served as a member of the General Plan Committee and as a member of the Men’s Golf Club Board. He is an avid golfer and skier. In the private sector he worked for General Electric, Apple, various high tech start ups and even at NASA. We look forward to working with Jim to continue the great progress Tahoe Donner has made over the past few years and continuing to accomplish the critical items mapped out in the General Plan.

As part of the General Plan, Tahoe Don-ner recently signed a contract with Dale Cox Architects for the design of our new Nordic Center. Dale has a wealth of experience in the Tahoe Basin and as far west as Montana. As plans begin to be fleshed out we will be hold-ing numerous forums with the homeowners to discuss the plans and get their feedback for this exciting new center.

It has been snowing, and when you get this our Nordic, Downhill, and Snowplay areas will be open and running at full capacity. Remem-

ber we are “the best place to begin.” Lessons for children start at age three. I can personally attest to the fact that they are the best lessons in this area as my wife Karen and I have taken our grandchildren to a number of resorts and Tahoe Donner is unmatched. They learned more in a half-day at Tahoe Donner than in a full-day elsewhere.

On January 12 Tahoe Donner is hosting a Winter Trails Day at the cross country ski center. Details are still being worked out but it will include clinics, free skiing, demos, vendors, food and much more. Please watch for details in the Tahoe Donner Weekly News email updates and plan on attending this new event.

Pizza on the Hill has expanded its menu and added a new sauce on their pizza. The new menu includes a number of sandwiches such as tri tip, meatball, chicken, and Italian sausage. There are also a number of new salads on the newly expanded salad bar. This is a great alter-native to the menu at the Lodge, and rumor has it that Prime Rib Saturday’s are back at the Lodge starting January 5.

Winter trails day

Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center will be teaming up with REI for a day of short demos, clinics, music and fun. Trail passes will be $5 with all proceeds benefitting local ski teams. (Read more on pg. 27.)

We will offer Learn to Ski and Snowboard packages for $29, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Packages include an all day lift ticket, rental equipment, and a two-hour group lesson for anyone ages 7 and up.

2013 Weight Loss kick-off Party

The 2013 Trout Creek Weight Loss Challenge is a free opportunity to join others in a friendly competition to reach your weight loss goals. Trout Creek Recreation Center will host a kick-off party at 5:30 p.m. Participants can sign-up for the program, weigh-in and have their photo taken.

Winter Wonderland Party at Pizza on the Hill

Join us for happy hour specials all night long, half-price cheese, pepperoni and veggie piz-zas and a coolest winter hat contest. We will also have a bunch of fun activities planned, including Bingo from 6 - 8 p.m., so be sure to stop by!

The winter season is upon us, we have plenty of snow and a wealth of activities to enjoy right in your own neigh-borhood of Tahoe Donner. Of course, the three primary winter amenities; Downhill, Cross Country, and Snowplay areas, are open and ready for some fun. We also have your

year-round operations available as well with fitness activities and hot tubs at Trout Creek Recreation Center. There is excellent new food and beverage options at the Lodge Restaurant & Pub and Pizza on the Hill. Don’t be satisfied being stuck indoors or off the hill this month, get geared up and out for some winter fun in your backyard of Tahoe Donner.

For those new to our winter wonderland, here are some winter tips for homeownership snow removal. Shoveling snow can be tedious, or a chore assigned to the kids, either way we want you to avoid injury. Lower back strain is one of the most common injuries related to shovel-ing snow. The following measures can help you prevent injuries and keep your back healthy while shoveling:

• Before the first snowfall is predicted, make sure you have a proper shovel. The best shovel is one that is light-weight, ergo-nomic and has a curved handle. Your shovel should also be long enough so that you can avoid bending over while shoveling and short enough so that the load on the blade (when you lift it) is close to your body.• Make sure that you have other essential equipment like warm, waterproof and skid-proof boots, as well as gloves, a hat, a coat and sunglasses to protect against glare. • Warm up before you start shoveling by walking around for 5 or 10 minutes, then stretch your arms, legs and back.• If possible, shovel when the snow is fresh rather than after it has been packed down and is heavier.• If the area you need to clear is large, shovel in stages starting with the most critical path first.• Switch hands often, and keep your hands separated with one hand closer to the blade. • Keep the loads light, rather than piling large amounts of snow on your shovel blade. If the snow is deep, shovel in layers.• Avoid bending and twisting as you lift, and empty each shovel full of snow. When possible, push the snow to one side as you clear the path.• Avoid throwing snow off the shovel blade, especially over your shoulder.• Take a break every 15 or 20 minutes to straighten and stretch your back. • Stay hydrated. • Stretch again when you are finished shoveling. If you do experi-ence any back strain, apply ice packs for the first 24 hours, then apply heat to loosen the muscles.

• There are also some great local contractors who advertise in our monthly magazine who are more than willing and well equipped to assist with snow removal.

This past month we recognized four great employees for their contri-butions to the association during 2012. Federico Zarate, our sous chef at the Lodge was recognized as the Team Member of the Year for his continued dedication and excellent skills in delivering a consistently high quality dining experience for our members. Alex Savitsky was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his increased management responsibilities as our mountain supervisor at the Downhill Ski Area, and for his hands on work and leadership role in a variety of summer construction projects around the community. Brian Yohn, our replace-ment reserve manager was recognized as our Rookie of the Year for his ability to quickly master the varied aspects of our associations replacement reserve program in order to immediately update and improve both the visual quality of our amenities and the behind the scenes functionality of equipment. Bill Houdyschell, our staff forester was recognized as the Manager of the Year for his great team leader-ship skills, in-depth defensible space program, and continued detailed performance in maintaining the health of the forest across our common and open areas. If you have the opportunity, please recognize these great team members who have set themselves apart in the work they do for our community.

Mark your calendar: January 12 is national Winter Trails Day. This year we are working in cooperation with REI to bring our community an amazing opportunity to get out on the winter trails at our Cross Country Ski Center. This will include a free day on the trails, extensive demos, lessons, clinics, and more. Start fulfilling those New Year’s reso-lutions and get out on the trails!

MEET NEW BOARD MEMBER JIM STANG

Tahoe Donner would like to extend a warm welcome to Jim Stang, the new director who is stepping in to fill the remaining six months of Suzy Knisley’s board position. Suzy resigned for personal reasons after serving five and a half years. Jim brings with him years of experience volunteering on committees within Tahoe Donner and is no stranger to the area.

“We’ve been property owners in Tahoe Donner for 20 years - built two houses here – and have been full-time residents for the past five years.” said Jim. “We moved up from Sunnyvale and selected Tahoe Donner over a number of different areas because of the location and amenities. We just like living here!”

Both Jim and his wife Lydia are very involved in activities around Tahoe Donner. They’ve been married for 39 years and have spent the past 25 years enjoying all that the area has to offer. Lydia is involved in the 18-hole golf club, senior ski club and quilting club. Together Lydia

and Jim spend a large amount of time on the golf course – close to 50 rounds this summer alone. “I’m an avid golfer,” said Jim. “Lydia and I play together, but we also play with our own groups too.”

In addition to his successful career accolades and expertise on volun-teer Tahoe Donner committees, (see introduction from Tom Johns on page 2) Jim is a senior volunteer with the California Highway Patrol. In his spare time he enjoys reading novels about historical events, the economy and technology. He’s currently reading “The Generals” by Thomas E. Ricks and always finds time to read his monthly subscrip-tion The Economist. Jim also recently started taking piano lessons and mentioned that it’s been a very humbling experience.

With his diverse professional background, passion for golf and affin-ity for the area, Jim is looking forward to being a part of the board of directors.

Do you have a specific agenda(s) that prompted you to seek this board appointment?

Yes. I wish to see to it that TDA remains a financially sound HOA and one that fulfills the residential and recreational needs of current and future members. To achieve this, the board of directors must ensure that our association’s assets are physically and functionally sound, implement well-founded amenity use policies, apply prudent oversight to the association’s operations, and implement well-advised and sensible CC&R.

What experience do you have with common interests developments?

Twenty years as a Tahoe Donner property owner, 15 years as an off-hill member and five years as a full time resident.

What are your opinions of the 2030 General Plan?I support the project scope and schedules presented in the

document and the fact that the plan undergoes periodic review for appropriateness. It is a needed document.

What is your long-range strategic vision for TDA?I want TDA to continue to exist as a viable and desirable mountain

community in which to live and play.

Why should the Board select you to complete this term in office?

Firstly, I care greatly about where I live and I am familiar with TDA’s staff and operations. Secondly, I have built two homes in TD and as a result I became very familiar with the details and complications of construction. Thirdly, my work experience as a computer programmer and computer systems analyst for 25 plus years has served me well. I worked for General Electric, Apple Computer, Silicon Valley start-ups, State of New York, and other state agencies. I designed, programmed, and fixed large financial, manufacturing, pharmacy dispensing, law enforcement, and data-base computer systems. I have a BA, MS, two AA and one AS degrees, and have graduated from the General Electric Financial Manage-ment Program.

Part of what makes Tahoe Donner special is the community norms and standards that the associa-tion’s founders and early members established in order to keep our

neighborhoods looking great and relationships between our members harmonious.

These standards are included in our Cov-enants Rules (C&R’s) that are monitored by a Covenants Committee that is comprised of Tahoe Donner property owners. The Cov-enants Committee has advised that many of the complaints acted upon in recent years are the result of owner or guest unfamiliarity with these rules.

The following are some of the more important norms and standards:• Fireworks are prohibited.• Open wood fires are prohibited without proper permits.• Minimize noise after 10 p.m. (If neigh-bors can hear it, it’s too loud.) Keep in mind that noise will travel further in the mountains than in metropolitan areas.• Turn off exterior lights after 10 p.m.• Prevent garbage spills by using approved enclosures. (Garbage pick-up is on Tuesdays.)• Clean up after your pet.• Store items such as ladders and recre-ational equipment out of public view.

The new leadership team at the cross coun-try ski center is committed to raising the bar to the next level for members and guests in an effort to give them a premiere skiing experi-ence. The Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center is now home to a new state-of-the-art Piston Bully grooming machine in addition to the newly added trails that will be opened when conditions permit. Other changes include a new look and feel from a fresh coat of paint and comfortable and functional new furniture. The staff at Alder Creek Café will be expanding the menu and adding new items that promise to keep guests coming back for more.

We are also introducing season long rental packages with unlimited use of rental skis. Packages for kids are $100, adults are $199 and demo packages are $245.

Truckee Parks and Recreation’s Ski Pro-gram at Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center has some openings available. Tahoe Donner instructors lead this program, which starts January 9. Sessions are offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 – 5 p.m. The cost is $110 for the season, plus $55 for rentals (or $6 rentals per day). Please call TDRPD for details (530) 582-7724.

We have lots of additional events and pro-grams planned for the season. We hope you will join us on the trails. It’s not too late to get your season pass, which provides the best value for skiing if you are planning on being a frequent visitor this year.

SAllY JONES | Cross CountrY ski Center MAnAGer

Attention dog LoversTahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center will be opening a few

trails for skiing with your dog. The dog trailhead will be at the south end of the parking lot with new access to Cup of Tea and Piece of Cake trails. Dogs will be allowed on these two trails during opening hours (midweek, non-holiday) and on weekends and holidays until 9:30 a.m. and after 3 p.m.

Zen skiing Group

On Mondays from January 7 - March 11, Carla McClure, a PSIA level 3 instructor, medita-tion teacher and acupuncturist, will be leading this new program. Her focus will be on teach-ing skiers how to slow down and become more efficient. The only requirement is that par-ticipants are comfortable skiing beginner (green) trails on either stride or skate skis. Session includes 10 weekly classes from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Cost is $145.

10 Week Master’s Program Top coaches will lead groups for skiing, training and learning new technique with skiers of

the same ability on Tuesdays (9:30 – 11 a.m.), Thursdays (12 - 1:30 p.m.), and Saturdays (8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.).

kvinna skida/Woman skiLocal Physical Therapist and PSIA level 3 instructor Andrea Miller will be leading a 10

week series skating group from January 2 – March 13 on Wednesdays from 12 – 1:30 p.m. This will be a group focusing on fun, fitness, and skate technique. Sorry guys – this is for women only! Cost is $200 for the entire series.

On Friday, January 6, from 5 - 9 p.m., kids 4 – 9 years old are invited to join in the fun with crafts, dinner, a movie and a bedtime story with cookies and milk. This month’s featured film is Hop. Registration must be made at least 24 hours in advance at tahoedonner.com or by calling (530) 587-9437. Cost: $15 per child.

Winter is in full swing and we our starting off with Learn-to-Ski or Snowboard Week January 7 – 11. For this week only packages are $29, which includes an all-day lift ticket, rental equipment and a 2 hour group lesson for ages 7 and up. It’s a perfect time to learn a different sport or take advantage of an affordable option with great value.

Our race series begins on January 12 and 26. Races are only $5 and includes two runs down the course. Racers can also get a few addi-tional laps in for $1 per extra lap.

Mountain Manager Safety tip of the month: Buddy up! It’s always a good idea to have a buddy when you’re skiing and riding on the mountain. It doesn’t really matter how big or small the mountain is, a buddy is always a good idea. Always wait for your buddy, and be sure to communicate with each other. We sug-gest picking a safe meeting place like the bot-tom of the chairlift or a location that is highly visible to other people around you, just in case you lose track of each other and need to meet up. Remember be safe on the mountain!

Alvarez were photographed in one of the outdoor hot tubs at Trout Creek Recreation Center for the January 2013 Tahoe Donner News cover. The hot tubs, lap pool, steam room and dry sauna are always popular for unwinding and relaxing after a long workout or ski. January is the perfect time to set new fitness goals and take advantage of all the great things Trout Creek has to offer! (See article on page 28)

This month’s cover models have owned a home in Tahoe Donner since 1996 and absolutely love it! They run two businesses – a local interior design firm called THID and an adventure travel company called Bio Bio Expeditions. Living in Truckee and Tahoe Donner is a natural fit given their passion for mountain biking, trail running, hiking, swimming, rafting and kayaking. For part of the year, they run a beautiful adventure camp on the Futaleufu River in Chile.

Between the two of them, Lorenzo and Terry have four children – Liam, 14, Ana-Kenzie, 11, Sabine Alvarez-Bradford, 7, and Saskia Alvarez-Bradford, 5. The kids enjoy swimming in the pools at Trout Creek Recreation Center and at the Beach Club Marina. As a family they also attend special events at Tahoe Donner. “Our kids loved the haunted house at Halloween,” Terry said.

Lorenzo and Terry spend quite a bit of time in the spas at Trout Creek Recreation Center. When in town, they can be found soaking in the hot tub, swimming laps and stretching out at least three times a week.

“We found the best place to live in the middle of the Sierra Nevada playground,” said Terry. “Summer is great for enjoying the beach and BBQs, fall is nice because it’s less crowded and so beautiful, and winter is awesome because of the great cross country skiing and spending time skiing out to the huts.”

A constantly varied blend of weight train-ing, cardio and gymnastics will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. This functional movement, core to extremity workout is designed to burn fat while building a strong body.

Yoga for skiing with judy dowdyThis class on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:45

p.m., will prepare us for our winter sports in a safe and holistic way. Drawing from years of personal training, group fitness instruc-tion and a level 4 Yoga Fit Yoga Instructor, Judy combines vinyasa (flowing) yoga moves with core and strength exercises producing a hybrid class. Yoga Fit yoga draws from a few yogic lineages including eight-limb Asthanga, Restorative and classical Indian Asthanga. The class will focus on strengthening muscles used in winter activities, lengthening soft tis-sue to prevent injury and calming our minds to accept our challenges. All levels are welcome.

Sally Jones, new Manager of Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area (TDXC), has returned to the trails that brought her to Tahoe in the first place.

A native of England, Jones grew up in an environment that didn’t include snow, much less sliding over it on long

boards. She received her bachelor’s degree in recreation studies from Bedford College. During college she also got her first exposure to what would define the rest of her professional and personal life.

“It was in my second year at university that I took a trip to France with some friends to go alpine skiing and I had a blast. I loved it,” Jones recalls. “The highlight of the trip was a tour from the top of a mountain down to the lodge, miles away. I really loved that point-to-point aspect. I didn’t even know that there was a whole sport of skiing that was designed for this. I got the bug enough to know that, at some point, I wanted to do more skiing.”



Island. It served as a sheep farm in the summer. “I was in charge of setting up a cross country ski area, but I’d never cross country skied in my life. I had a blast cruising around on the hills of the farm there.” said Jones. After a trip or two back to England in the off-season, she settled in at the Snow Farm, mastered skiing, and became a Nordic skiing instructor. Her life’s path was set.

But it’s a long way from the South Island of New Zealand to the snow-filled valleys of the Sierra Nevada. Upon the recommenda-tion of her employ-ers, she took a side trip to Lake Tahoe in 1989 to check out the skiing and was immediately hooked. During that trip she met Glenn Jobe, the original owner of Tahoe Don-ner’s Cross Country Ski Area. Jobe offered her a job as an instructor and Jones eventually became the ski school director. “I loved working for TDXC and I made my life sort of an endless winter. I’d work in the Sierra during our ski season and then go back to New Zealand and work their ski season.” said Jones.

In 1996 the Auburn Ski Club on Donner Summit offered Jones a position as their Nordic program director. She accepted the job and has spent the past 16 years developing one of the strongest club programs in the country. Jones also then became a full-time resident of Tahoe Don-ner. She recalls, “I just loved being so close to the skiing, living here. What really brought me to Tahoe Donner was the access to the trails – both winter and summer – and not having to drive to play outdoors. I love the open feel here; I can’t think of a better place to live.”

Jones’ role as program director at Auburn Ski Club wasn’t just paper pushing. She has been involved extensively with developing the Nordic division of the Professional Ski Instructors Association (PSIA) here in the west, and holds the highest level of certification from that organiza-tion. She has also helped to develop instructor training certification in

both New Zealand and the United States, and is currently a clinician and chief cross country ski technique examiner. Jones is also an active international cross country ski race technical delegate (referee) for the United States Ski Association and a long-time board member of the Far West Nordic Ski Education Association, which is the California/Nevada

It’s early January and winter is here. The issue of blowing and/or pushing snow onto adjoining properties always pops up around this time. I’m sure that everyone is aware that your snow should stay on your property. Unfortunately, not everyone takes the steps to ensure that this happens. Too often we get calls from property owners

complaining that their neighbor, or their neighbor’s snow removal ser-vice, is blowing or pushing snow onto their lot and sometimes against their house. Please, when you clear your driveway, or have it done, make sure that you or your contractor blow or push your snow only onto your own property. Also, please keep in mind that the Town of Truckee has the right to place snow from the streets in the front 20 feet of our lots. Some folks are under the impression that their property starts at the edge of the asphalt street. Typically, property lines start between 15 – 20 feet from the edge of the asphalt. That means that the town has the right to push and/or blow snow up to 35 feet from the edge of the street.

While garbage is a much more significant problem in the summer, we still need to dispose of it properly in the winter months. Many proper-ties now have metal enclosures. One thing that resurfaces is that the enclosures are not being closed securely or the latches are no longer secure. Please keep in mind that homeowners are responsible for all of their guests or renters, including uninvited bears that make a trash mess or destroy a garbage can enclosure. Please make sure that you, your guests and renters close the garbage can enclosure securely.

division of the United States Ski Association. In her spare time, Jones has studied a somatic (holistic) approach to leadership and combines that expertise and the martial art of Aikido to coach leaders in various organizations.

Although not looking to leave Auburn Ski Club, Jones was enticed by friends to take a closer look at the manager position at TDXC when it opened up. “Originally, I wasn’t interested, but having been involved in trying to get the Super Tour to Tahoe (a series of national-caliber cross country ski races scheduled for April), I saw Tahoe Donner’s new commitment to growing the sport and making itself an international destination. I became much more intrigued with the possibilities of becoming a part of that growth.” she said.

Hiring Jones was an easy decision for Miguel Sloane, Tahoe Don-ner’s Director of Operations. “Certainly her experience was appeal-ing, but the way she conveyed her passion for the sport, and how that matched what we are trying to accomplish here at Tahoe Donner, made the decision pretty simple. She rose to the top of a very talented pool of applicants.”

It wasn’t just bringing top-notch ski racing to Tahoe Donner that interested Jones in the job. She saw the plans for the new day lodge and knew that being a part of the operation would fit perfectly into her philosophy of bringing Nordic skiing to a wide variety of participants. “I’m extremely excited with the direction that Tahoe Donner is taking to improve the ski area,” said Jones. “Their commitment to cross coun-try skiing is what made me so interested in taking the job. They are 100 percent behind making the area an international destination for cross country skiing.”

She’s hit the ground running (or skiing), feverishly planning new programs, hiring the most customer service-oriented individuals she can find, adding more trails (including special ones for furry friends) and developing more programs for young skiers. Anyone who has seen Jones in operation at Auburn Ski Club knows that she’s all about getting kids excited about cross country skiing. She also has a strong commit-ment to the ski school, which already boasts the largest number of PSIA Level 3 instructors in the region (the highest level of certification). Jones will be bringing her technical experience to the forefront of their instruction programs with ongoing training to provide the best instruc-tion for the beginner skier through advanced racers. “What we have is amazing, and I really want to get the word out to more people about our great facilities and programs, and build on that. My job is to listen to what people want, and to design a community-based program around that.” Jones encourages all Tahoe Donner residents to come to the cross country center and see what all the excitement is about.

upon recent approvals from Town of Truckee Building Department, our general contractor is now permitted to start improvements at the covered pub deck and new sun deck, with pro shop expansion, snack bar expansion, and kitchen improvements occurring in early 2013, and a

Covered pub deck The existing pub deck will receive a roof, windows, and fireplace for ex-panded dining options during cooler months. During summer months, the roof will provide desirable shade while removable windows will allow for necessary air circulation.

new sun deck With the existing deck being covered, those that appreciate more sun will have the option to utilize the sun deck, which will wrap around the exterior of the covered deck. The existing exterior staircase will be replaced with a new staircase that accesses the new pathway toward practice greens and down into the new pro shop entrance.

Pro shop expansion By expanding the pro shop outward towards the starter shack, an office, storage room, fitting room and additional retail area will be gained. This expansion also allows for a new corridor that provides golfers ac-cess to restrooms without travel through pro shop or conference room.

Winter Trails Day offers children and adults across the nation who are new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing and cross country skiing for free, and to discover the great fitness and social benefits with these easy-to-learn winter sports. In addition, there will be demos available for the not-so-new to snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Come one, come all on Saturday, January 12, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Assisting REI and Tahoe Donner with lessons in striding and skate skiing will be our very own Truckee High Nordic Team. A BBQ will be offered along with great music. You don’t want to miss this day at the Tahoe Donner Cross Country Center. Free demos and lessons are offered during this time for snowshoeing, striding and skate skiing for both adults and children.

Parking will be available at the Cross Country Ski Center at 15275 Alder Creek Rd., along with at The Lodge on 12850 Northwoods Blvd. Shuttles will be provided. January is always a great time to set new fitness goals and begin a brand new year with a clean slate. Trout Creek Recreation Center has two new programs that are sure to motivate and help you achieve your goals!

2013 Weight Loss ChallengeThe 2013 Trout Creek Weight Loss Chal-

lenge is a free opportunity to join others in a friendly competition to reach your weight loss goals. You still have a little bit of time to think about joining the program, which begins on Friday, February 1, and lasts for 12 weeks. Trout Creek Recreation Center will host a kick-off party at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30. Participants can sign-up for the program, weigh-in and have their photo taken. There will also be a guest lecture on the 12-Steps of Weight Loss Success and a brief introduction about how services at Trout Creek Recreation Center can help contribute to your success. Don’t worry, if you can’t make the kick-off party you can still join the challenge by signing up at the front desk any time before Febru-ary 1. Throughout the 12 weeks, we will provide special educational opportunities (nominal fees will apply) for challengers to gain knowledge, motivation, and resources to overcome plateaus and maintain their weight loss. Weekly weigh-ins will be avail-able to track progress. At the culmination of the 12 week challenge, prizes will be awarded to the participant who has lost the greatest number of pounds and the partici-

pant who has lost the greatest percentage of body weight. Every participant that loses 10 percent of their body weight will receive a Trout Creek Weight Loss Challenge t-shirt.

Century Club ChallengeIf you’re a frequent user of Trout Creek

Recreation Center, you should consider join-ing the Century Club Challenge. Visit Trout Creek 100 times by September 30, 2013, and you will become an honorary member of the Trout Creek Century Club and receive a Trout Creek Century Club t-shirt. We will celebrate our Centurions with a Century Club Celebration in October and unveil the

Century Club Hall of Fame. We will also reward our Super Centurions (150 visits), Mega Centurions (200 visits), and of course, the Centurion who has the greatest number of visits to Trout Creek. Throughout the period we will be offering mini-challenges to keep our Centurions motivated and com-mitted. How many laps can you swim in a month? How many miles can you log on a treadmill? How many fitness classes can you attend? Mini-challenge winners will also be recognized at our Century Club Celebration.
