The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a lineof  Android-based tabletcomputers produced

by Samsung.[1]

 The first model in theseries, the 7-inch Samsung GalaxyTab, was first introduced on 2September 2010 atthe IFA in Berlin.[2] Since then therehave been several models released,including models with 7.7, 8.9 and

10.1-inch displays.

The original Galaxy Tab was

introduced on 2 September 2010 atthe IFA in Berlin.[3] It has a singlecore 1 GHz Exynos processor, and a7-inch TFT LCD display with aresolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.[4] Itsoperating system is basedon  Android 2.2 Froyo with some

custom skins andapplications.[5] Most Android 2.2 appsdeveloped using Google's guidelinesfor Android should scale properlywhen displayed on larger-screendevices such as the SamsungGalaxy Tab, according to

Samsung.[6]

In May 2011 it wasreported that Android Gingerbread2.3.3 was being made available inItaly, with other regions expected tofollow.[7] Several updates have been

made throughout the world and inFebruary, 2012, Android versionGingerbread 2.3.6 is available.[8] 

During the 2011International Consumer ElectronicsShow (CES), Verizon Wireless andSamsung Telecommunications

 America (Samsung Mobile)announced that a new 4G LTE-Enabled Samsung Galaxy Tab

features access to VerizonWireless' 4G LTE Mobile BroadbandNetwork and a 5 megapixel rear-facing Camera will be available[9] 

Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus [edit] 

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is the direct

successor to the original Galaxy Tab.This model has the same resolutionas its predecessor at 1024 x 600, butuses a PLS panel. Also it now comeswith Android 3.2 Honeycomb pre-installed as well as including newer,more powerful hardware. The new

model includes a 1.2 GHz dual-coreprocessor, 16GB or 32GB of user accessible flash storage, and a 2-megapixel front and 3-megapixelrear-facing camera. The device is

much smaller than the original,measuring 193.5 x 122.4 x 9.9 mmand weighing just 345 grams. It runs

 Android 3.2 Honeycomb, withSamsung's custom TouchWizsoftware, but an update to Android4.1.2 Jelly Bean is available.

Samsung Galaxy Tab10.1 [edit] 

Main article: Samsung Galaxy Tab10.1 

 At the Mobile World Congress eventin 2011 Samsung showed a newGalaxy Tab model with bigger 10.1-inch HD display and faster processor,running Google's Android 3.0

Honeycomb operating system.[10] Itwas set for a US release in March2011 and a European release in

 April. However, after the iPad2 release, some specifications weredescribed as "inadequate" [11] by theexecutive vice president of 

Samsung's mobile division.

This would lead to the introduction of a newer, slimmer 10.1-inch model atthe Samsung Unpacked Event

during CTIA Wireless Convention inMarch 2011, together with a 8.9 inchmodel, pushing the release date

further to 8 June for the US releaseand "early summer" for the latter model. Although there was noinformation about a delay of theEuropean release date, it wasannounced that the previous design,seen at the Mobile World Congress,

would be sold relabelled as"Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v".[12][13] 

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs Android3.2 Honeycomb, with Samsung'scustom TouchWiz software. Anupdate to Android 4.0 Ice CreamSandwich is available.[14] 

Galaxy Tab 10.1v [edit] 

The Galaxy Tab 10.1v wasscheduled to be released in the UKby Vodafone. After theannnouncement of the slimmer Galaxy Tab 10.1, Vodafone

confirmed that the 10.1v would stillbe released.[15] However, the releasewas later cancelled, and the GalaxyTab 10.1 was released by Vodafoneinstead.[16] The Galaxy Tab 10.1v is

thicker than the standard 10.1, at10.9 mm compared to 8.6 mm, buthas an 8 MP camera compared to

the 10.1's 3 MP camera.[15]

 Samsung Galaxy Tab7.7 [edit] Main article: Samsung Galaxy Tab7.7  

During IFA 2011 in Berlin, Samsung

announced the new Galaxy Tab 7.7,sporting a dual-core 1.4 GHzprocessor, 1GB of memory, supportfor 32GB MicroSD cards (possiblyonly on some models), a 5,100mAhbattery, a front-facing 2-megapixelcamera and a rear-facing 3-

megapixel camera with flash. Thereare 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models.The device measures 196.7 x 133 x7.89 mm (7.75 x 5.24 x 0.31 inches)and weighs 335g (11.8 oz) making itmuch more single-hand friendly thanlarger models from Samsung and

other manufacturers.[17] It runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb, withSamsung's custom TouchWizsoftware, with an update to Android4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

available.[14] The Galaxy Tab 7.7 wasreleased in the US on Verizon on 1March 2012.[18] 

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 (model number GT-P7310)

Samsung Galaxy Tab8.9 [edit] The Galaxy Tab 8.9 was announced

at the CTIA Wireless Convention inMarch 2011.[19] It features the sameNvidia Tegra 2 processor as used inthe Galaxy Tab 10.1, with a 3megapixel rear-facing camera and6100 mAh battery. The devicemeasures 230.9 x 157.8 x 8.6 mm

and weighs 470 grams. It runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb, withSamsung's custom TouchWizsoftware, but an update to Android4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is

available.[20][14] The Galaxy Tab 8.9was released on 2 October 2011 inthe US.[21]

The latest tablets in the series are

the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1 andare aimed at budget markets. Thefront facing cameras have beendowngraded to VGA quality, the rear camera to fixed focus, the chip set isnow a TI OMAP4430 1.0 GHz dual-core, and is slightly thicker. In

addition, the 5GHz WiFi has beendropped. The 10.1-inch versionretails for $399 and the 7.0-inchversion retails for $249. Both modelsrun Samsung's TouchWiz softwareon top of Android 4.0 Ice CreamSandwich, and have been updated to

 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.[22]

 At the Mobile World Congress 2012,

Samsung announced the GalaxyNote 10.1, as an alternative to theGalaxy Tab 10.1. It has a 10.1-inchdisplay and uses a quad-core1.4 GHz processor and supports theSamsung S-Pen input as seen on theoriginal Galaxy Note phone.

Nexus 10 [edit] Main article: Nexus 10  

The second tablet in the Nexusseries, the Nexus 10 was announcedby Google on 29 October 2012. It is a10.1-inch tablet produced by

Samsung, with a 2560x1600 PLSLCD display and a 1.7 GHz dual-coreprocessor. The Nexus 10 runsthe  Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and isavailable in 16 and 32 GB models.

Galaxy Note 8.0 [edit]

 At the Mobile World Congress 2013,Samsung announced the GalaxyNote 8.0. It has a 8 inch display and
