The XII TAG-TF• Formed in March 2012 as a Task Force of the XII Best Practice

Board.

• Chartered to:o Record prevalent taxonomy architectures.o Evaluate standard practices.o Identify patterns and profiles.o Document the above as a Taxonomy Architecture Guidance.

• Diverse group of XBRL experts, both in background and geography.

Observation framework• Template for observations created to capture >100

aspects of taxonomy.• Included sections for:

Survey• 14 distinct taxonomies selected.

• Taxonomies must be non trivial and in production use.

• Survey carried out or reviewed by taxonomy authors and decision makers.

• No self-organisation of architectures found.

Taxonomy Guidance Document• Audience: Taxonomy architects (mainly technical).

• Aim 1: “to increase the understanding around what architectural choices are important and what approaches are available”.

• Aim 2: “inform of the possible impact of architectural decisions”.

• Source: “the practical application of XBRL and empirical data taken from actual reporting programs”.

• Conclusions: “good practice can be considered as choosing the best fit for a specific reporting requirement”.

Upcoming release• Version 1 contains something for everyone:

o Introduction and importance of taxonomy architecture.o How to characterise your taxonomy and use the document.o Designing taxonomies for extensions.o Modelling of tables and lists, using tuples and dimensions.o Methods and best practice for the construction of labels.

• To be released for public comment in Q1 2014.

Future• Once initial framework in V1 is complete, can expect frequent new

releases.

• Future versions need to reflect high priority items.

• Seek input from the community on the high priority Taxonomy Guidance items.

• Starts today! Pick up a questionnaire and tell us what you want first.
