Dear Tacoma Families,

Can you believe it? The end of one of the most unique, ‘unprecedented’ semesters we have EVER had in schools and education. Floods, Fires, Disease. A HUGE thank you to all of you for your support of our staff, the school, and most importantly our students.

FAREWELL MRS STURT

Mrs Sturt departed Tacoma Public School last week to take up a new position in another school. We will miss her terribly – her absolute love of our students, support for our staff and her knowledge of our families. We have been so lucky to have had her skills and passion for the past 15 years. It is time to share her expertise and fun sense of humour with another group of students who will thrive under her care. Farewell and thank you, Sturtie!

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

What a fantastic day! Many thanks to Mr Mac for his organisation as well as all our staff for the many jobs done to run the carnival. Congratulations to all our students who participated and competed with enthusiasm and pride. It was such an incredible day. We missed our families, but it was so wonderful to see our students cheering each other on.

REPORTS

A modified report will come home on Thursday.

ABORIGINAL ACTION TEAM

This year we have launched an Aboriginal Action Team to work together to improve our Aboriginal students’ outcomes, develop the staff and whole school’s knowledge of Aboriginal culture, people, language and histories. Our team is co-led by Mrs Fraser and Mrs Fletcher. We were very excited to experience a fantastic PL session for our staff – a wonderful movie called ‘In My Blood It Runs.’ I would encourage all our parents to watch this thought provoking documentary film – Sunday, July 5, 9.30pm on ABC and ABC iview. The team is also busily preparing activities for NAIDOC week – lots of learning and fun later in the year. Did you know we are so lucky in that we have 4 teachers who are Aboriginal? Mrs Fraser, Mrs Pearson (SLSO), Mrs Simpson and Mr Tedd. Tacoma are fortunate to have a wealth of knowledge and experiences right inside our school gates!

NAIDOC WEEK

Date change to 8th-15th November due to Covid-19
