Tuesday appointing three people to Tacoma's Human Rights Commission.

The 15-member commission is tasked with studying, investigating, and mediating commu-nity issues that may result from prejudice, big-otry, and discrimination, according to the City's Web site. Commission members are appointed by Tacoma City Council; serve three-year terms; and include representatives of the general public and the employer, labor, religious, racial, ethnic,

handicapped, and women's groups in the city. The Human Rights Commission typically meets at 5:30 p.m. every third Thursday at Tacoma City Hall.

Photos Courtesy Pierce CountyPierce County of cials marked the completion of

a series of roadway improvement projects along the 176th Street East corridor between B Street East and State Route 161 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week.

According to Pierce County of cials, up to 25,000 vehicles per day travel the 176th Street East corridor near the intersection of 176th Street East and Canyon Road East. In 1989, the traf c count was about 8,000 vehicles per day at that same location. Over the years, Pierce County has made a number of road improvements along the corridor in six major seg-ments that spanned more than six miles.

"The improvements will increase capacity, relieve traf c congestion, aid the movement of freight and goods, and contribute to public safety by adding sidewalks, lighting and traf c signals," said Pierce County Public Works and Utilities Director Brian Ziegler. "We are pleased with the results of eigh-teen years of effort by our employees, partners and contractors."

Design work on the corridor began in 1996, while construction began in 2003. Major work on the nal project — from B Street East to 14th Av-enue East — is expected to be completed this win-ter, with some minor work expected through the early spring. Pierce County will also make nal improve-ments to the intersection of 78th Avenue East and 176th Street East in 2015 after ongoing coordination with environmental regu-latory agencies is complete.

The work on the completed projects cost a combined $71.2 million. Funding came from a combination of traf c impact fees, Transportation Improvement Board funds, County Road Funds, real estate excise taxes and bonds, and developer funds such as State Environmental Policy Act mitigation contributions.

The 176th Street East corridor is one of several ar-terials around the county that has been upgraded to include curbs, gutters and sidewalks to allow expand-ed access for pedestrians and bicyclists. Also, crews installed pervious concrete sidewalks and shoulders from B Street East to 14th Avenue East to reduce sur-face water runoff. This is the rst time Pierce County has used pervious concrete on the shoulders of an ar-terial roadway. The county also constructed a new rail-

road crossing bridge just west of Canyon Road East. Workers removed the old two-lane bridge and built the new bridge during a four-month road closure. Finally, road workers added raised medians to the roadway to increase safety, control access to businesses, and im-prove traf c ow. The medians have a combination of drought tolerant plants and hardscape features, and also include depressed curbs to accommodate re and aid vehicle cross over.

Ziegler, Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy, Pierce County Councilmember Jim McCune, and Transportation Improvement Board Executive Direc-tor Steve Gorcester attended a ribbon-cutting ceremo-ny on Wednesday at the Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Station No. 60 in Tacoma.

More information about the 176th Street East cor-ridor is available online at piercecountywa.org/freder-icksonarea.

PETITION / HEARING RE TERMINATION OF PARENT-CHILD

RELATIONSHIP

SUPERIOR COURT OF WASHINGTON FOR PIERCE

COUNTYIN RE THE ADOPTION OF: SOOK JA FULLER DOB: 02/06/2014

TO: Bryan A. Harvey, non-consenting alleged father; and

TO: John Doe, unidentified actual fa- ther; and

TO: Any other person claiming a pa- ternal interest in the above-named child.

You have been named as the father or a possible father of the above- named child. A Petition for Termination of Parent-Child Relationship has been filed in the above-entitled court. The Petitioners are asking the Court for an order permanently terminating the par- ent-child relationship between you and

the child, permanently terminating all of your rights to the child and for a De- cree of Adoption declaring the Peti- tioners to be the legal parents of the child.

(A) The child was born on February 6, 2014 in Tacoma, Washington. The name of the child’s mother is Athena Fuller.

(B) The child was conceived on or about May 16, 2013, in the city, town or general area of Tacoma, Washing- ton.

In order to defend against this Peti- tion, you must respond to the Petition by stating your defense in writing and by serving a copy upon the attorney at the address below within twenty (20) days after the service of the Sum- mons, excluding the day of service, or within thirty (30) days (if service is made upon you outside the State of Washington), or a default order per- manently terminating your parent-child relationship with the child by default will be entered. A default order is one where the Petitioners are entitled to what they ask for because you have not responded. If you serve a notice of appearance on the attorney at the ad- dress below, you are entitled to notice before a default order may be entered.

You have the right to be represented by an attorney. If you are determined indigent and request an attorney, an attorney will be appointed for you. Your failure to file a claim of Paternity under chapter 26.26 of the Revised Code of Wash- ington or to respond to the Petition for Termination of Parent-Child Relation- ship filed herein is grounds to termi- nate your parent-child relationship with respect to the child.

If the child is an Indian child as de- fined by the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978, 25 U.S.C. 1901 et seq., and if you acknowledge paternity of the child or if your paternity of the child is es- tablished prior to the termination of the parent-child relationship, your pa- rental rights may not be terminated un- less you give valid consent to termina- tion, or your parent-child relationship is terminated involuntarily pursuant to chapter 26.33 or 13.34 RCW.

The Court hearing on the Petition for Termination of Parent-Child relation- ship shall be on the January 16, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. at the Pierce County Superior Court, Juvenile Court, Remann Hall, 5506 Sixth Avenue, Ta- coma, WA 98406.
