Tacoma led 5-4 after four innings, but gave up one run in both the fifth and sixth innings to give El Paso the lead. Jesus Montero and Patrick Kivlehan both recorded multiple hits and sent out solo home runs to lead the Tacoma offense, while Mike Kickham went 4.1 innings in his season debut. FRIENDS IN UNFAMILIAR PLACES: The Pacific Coast League saw six affiliation changes during the offseason. Sporting new parent clubs in 2015 are Oklahoma City (LA Dodgers), Albuquerque (Colorado Rockies), Colorado Springs (Milwaukee Brewers), Sacramento (SF Giants), Fresno ( Houston Astros), and Nashville (Oakland A’s). REFUSE TO LOSE: Tacoma has now either won or split their first series of the season in 10 of the last 12 years. The last opening series win for the Rainiers was in 2009, when they took 3-of-4 from Sacramento on the road. Tacoma last swept an opening opponent in 2006, going 4-0 against Colorado Springs at home. STAYING HOT: Rainiers infielder Ketel Marte’s nine- game hitting streak that extends back to the end of 2014 is tied for the third longest streak in the Pacific Coast League. Over that span, Marte is hitting .342 (13x38) with nine runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Marte’s 14-game road hitting streak that extends back to 2014 is tied for the longest in the league. In those 14 games Marte is hitting .356 (21x59) with 13 runs, five doubles, one home run, and eight RBI. GOING NUCLEAR: Catcher John Hicks and infielder Chris Taylor both hit north of .310 in road action against the Isotopes in 2014. Hicks hit .385 (5x13) with two runs, two doubles, and four RBI in his four games in the desert. Taylor managed to hit .556 (10x18) with four runs, two doubles, two triples, and three RBI in his four games in Albuquerque. YOU AGAIN?: Tacoma has faced Albuquerque 443 times in club history, the third most games against any PCL opponent. The Rainiers moved the all-time series record to 210-232-1 with a 9-7 advantage over the Isotopes in 2014. Tacoma has only faced Las Vegas (462 games) and Salt Lake (597 games) more than Albuquerque. LEADING THE PACK: Through the first series of the year, Rainiers third baseman Carlos Rivero leads the Pacific Coast League with a .600 batting average and 1.067 slugging percentage. In four games he has notched a team-leading nine hits and is tied for the club lead in RBI (6) and home runs (2). ROUND TRIPPERS: Tacoma batters have hit a home run in each of their first four games (six total, T-second in PCL) to open the season, a feat the team has not accomplished since 2012 when Rainiers batters combined for six home runs in the opening four-game homestand against Salt Lake April 5-8. AT HOME OUT WEST: Outfielder Patrick Kivlehan has gone 5-for-13 (.385 AVG) with five runs, four RBI, two home runs, and two walks in his first three Triple-A games. Kivlehan, the No. 4 ranked prospect by Baseball America, has 48 career minor league home runs and sent out 20 last year between High Desert and Jackson. YOU SHALL NOT PASS: Tacoma catchers John Baker and John Hicks have combined to throw out 60 percent (3 CS, 2 SB) of base stealers, the second best mark in the Pacific Coast League. EXPERIENCED BATS: The seven Tacoma batters with Major League experience who have played this year are currently hitting .345 (38x110) with 16 extra base hits and account for 73 percent of the teams RBI (24-of-33). TRIPLE-A VETERAN: Rainiers starting pitcher Mike Montgomery has made 88 Triple-A starts since 2011, including 44 PCL starts. He owns a career Triple-A record of 25-30 with a 4.98 ERA (264ERx477.0IP). Last year was Montgomery’s best Triple-A campaign, going 10-5 with a 4.29 ERA (60ERx126.0IP) in 25 starts for the Durham Bulls of the International League. The tall lefty was acquired in a trade with Tampa Bay in exchange for Erasmo Ramirez (RHP) on March 31, 2015. QUEST FOR 4000: The Rainiers need 15 victories to record 4,000 all-time franchise wins. Since 1960, Tacoma has put together a record of 3985-3961 (.502). The Rainiers record as an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners is 1462-1405 (.510). Monday, April 13 at 5:35 P.M.
