From the Desk of Mrs Jordan See our school shine …. On Wednesday we completed our 15th very successful Concert of Excellence at the Glasshouse. This major event of the year showcases the amazing talent that we have at Tacking Point Public School. An enormous congratulations to all of our wonderful performers, the amazing staff for their tireless efforts to bring this showcase together, especially Mrs Elynne Toft to coordinator extraordinaire and to all of you (parents/carers, grandparents, family and friends) as your support enables all of this to happen!

Congratulations dancers!! The annual Port Macquarie dance eisteddfod is here over the next couple of weeks and our eisteddfod dance groups had the honour of competing in the school’s sections on Thursday evening. The groups lit up the stage with their huge smiles and abundance of enthusiasm. Many thanks to our beautiful children who performed so well and to our awesome dance teachers and coordinators for all of the time and energy they put into their teams each week to provide this opportunity for them.

What a Team! On Monday morning I had the privilege of watching a portion of the boy’s football match of Tacking Point and Ben Venue (Armidale). The score line was tight but in the end the Tacking Point team proved too strong taking the win 2-1. These boys along with coaches Mr Trevor Thompson and Mr Matt Bale will be competing in the State Final, Monday 21st October in Sydney. This level of achievement is ultra-impressive and to see the team congratulate their fellow opposition on the day was a fine display of true sportsmanship. All the best at the State Final Boys … Go TPPS!!!

Staff Mr Rob Harris is on leave this week and Mrs Kate Dawes is on 3H. Mr Phil Harris returned on Thursday looking very relaxed! Next term we have Katrina Harvey, Kerryn Lindley, Elynne Toft and Steve Cornish on leave for the first few weeks of the Term 4.

Thank you to all of you for everything that you have done this term to ensure your children come to school each day prepared and ready to face the challenges that school has to offer. The growth the students are able to reach when they push and apply themselves has been so rewarding for us all. It is now time to have a break, enjoy the change in routine and spend some quality time together.

Thought for the Week:

Happiness has nothing to do with what we have and everything to do with how we think.

Message from the Deputy Principals As we move into the holidays can we remind all drivers to please be safe around our school area? We are a large school that is located in a residential area and traffic is always congested for parking and movement at the start and the end of the school days. Please follow all road rules to maintain the safety of all our students and other drivers. Congratulations to all staff and students on an amazing Concert of Excellence! We are so lucky to have the support of so many external groups from the performing arts. This is just another example of the greater community coming together to support our students. Have a wonderful holiday with family and friends. We look forward to seeing your fresh smiling faces back next term.

Ros Mangold and Trevor Thompson

Library Knitting Club I have had a lot of interest with boys and girls in learning how to knit, and some nice success with a pilot group. Term 4 I’d like to offer a ‘Knitting Club’ at lunch times in the Library for students, Grades 3-6. We are blessed with some very capable ‘Tiny teachers’, who will help peer tutor or eager crafters! If you would have any balls of wool or knitting needles you would like to donate to our project, we would be very appreciative. Please drop wool and/or needles to either the front office or down to the Library. Many thanks!

Boys Football Team – Through to State Finals The Tacking Point Boys Football team is through to the PSSA Knockout State finals after a tense 2-1 victory over Ben Venue PS from Armidale. This puts the boys into the last 4 teams of the state wide competition, an amazing achievement. On the road to the finals the boys have shown improvement in skill and positioning, demonstrating excellent teamwork and determination in every game. They have won 7 games scoring 43 goals and only conceding 4. Good Luck in Sydney on the 21st October!

Tacking Point Team: Campbell P, Max G, Riley B, Hayden K, Ryan C, Cameron M, Mitchell M, Kobyn D, Lorcan M, Oscar C, Jimmy S, Ashton N, Riley H and Kye S.

North Coast Athletics Report Twenty four of our athletes competed in the North Coast Athletics last Friday in Lismore. Three of our athletes were successful in making the North Coast team for the State PSSA Championships in Sydney next term. Isabella B (shot put), Knox B (100m) and Jack M (shot Put) were the successful athletes.

Other athletes put in great performances, some just missed out on going to Sydney and others made the top 10. These athletes included Gemirah F (4th 100m), Mable M (4th High Jump,12th 100m), Grace M (5th 1500m, 10th 800m), Lane J (5th 1500m), Aurora M (4th Shot Put), Elias C (8th 100m), Cruz L (9th 800m), Ben O (9th 800m, 6th 1500m), Sam Y (10th 1500m), Girls Junior Relay (Sakura A, Aurora M, Sophie W, Mable M) (6th), Boys Senior Relay, (Ryan C, Cameron M, Riley B, Max G) (4th), Girls senior relay (Talina R, Lane J, Riley C, Eloise R) (11th) Thanks to all the parents who provided transport to Lismore and back.

Boys Basketball Our senior Boys Basketball team’s journey has come to an end after a long and successful year. Their run ended against Byron Bay Public School in the North Coast Championship final. The team travelled to meet them in Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay got off to a quick start and were able to keep our boys from scoring freely during the first two quarters. During the second half of the game, our Tacking Point boys put in a huge effort however Byron Bay was too much to rein in.

The team did Tacking Point proud, playing with the same effort that saw them progress into the competition. They had smiles on their faces right until the very end and their sportsmanship was outstanding.

As a coach, I could not be prouder or happier with how the boys conducted themselves on and off the court. They need to keep their heads held high and remember that they are the runners up on the North Coast and did well to reach the top 16 within the state! Well done and a huge congratulations.

New Payment System Available The Tacking Point Public School P&C is happy to announce the Introduction of QKR. This payment system is set to replace Flexischools and is available for Canteen, Uniform shop and events.

Why the change? We received feedback through parents that the upfront costs in loading your account and transaction fees were a deterrent from using Flexischools.

Both systems will be running simultaneously until the end of Term 3 2019, then Flexischools will be switched off.

How do I close my Flexischools account? Simply follow these instructions; Log into Flexischools > My Profile > Account Status > Close account.
