19h November, 2020 Dear Shane Thank you for your efforts in pursuing this much needed upgrade. X Mr Shane Knuth, MP Email: hill(S)parliament.qld.gov.au We are writing to you to express our strong support for the much needed upgrade of the Silkwood-Japoon Road. At present, the road is in poor condition and doesn't meet the needs of many of the current users of the road, namely school buses, heavy farm machinery, refrigerated trucks, RV's and caravans. The edges are eroding, the surface is rough and uneven, there are sections that narrow down to one lane, and with the winding sections, this makes this road a very unsafe experience for many of our travelling guests. Pre COVID, many of these guests were international, and this was deemed to be a very unsafe road for people who weren't used to travelling on the left hand side of a road. When meeting oncoming traffic they were more likely to respond by turning to the wrong side of the road. By widening the road, this situation can be somewhat avoided. Our business, Paronella Park, attracts a large number of travellers using this road, mostly towing large caravans, or driving RV's and 5-wheelers. The narrow road creates a safety concern when two vehicles approach from both directions, as there is no safe way for vehicles to move off the road. As this road is part of the Canecutter Way Tourist route, it is important that it creates a positive experience for visiting travellers. Currently, it is the source of a lot of disbelief expressed by travellers, that this road leads to Queensland's Number 1 Tourist Attraction, Paronella Park. Regards Judy and Mark Evans DIRECTORS

Dear Mr Knuth,

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

The road is too narrow to support the regular traffic of tourist buses, heavy vehicles, r/s and caravans. This road is also used by the many farmers in this area with the likes of bin haulers for the sugar cane and heavy farm machinery.

I am writing to you with strong support for the much needed upgrade of the Silkwood / Japoon Road. I am a school bus owner /operator and use this road daily. Its condition is very poor and not to mention very dangerous. My concerns for safety come to me daily on this road.

This road is part of a major tourist route that supports the world known Paronella Park and is the backbone of this community. The upgrade would not only mean more employment but would greatly increase the flow of traffic to allow the safe travel for all. Our community is asking for the support of the State Government In this project as we are already the subject of high rates in the area.

Dear Mr Knuth,

Thank you for your consideration in this very much need upgrade.

Regards Cr Teresa Millwood

The average daily travel In this vicinity is approximately 1300 with and large amount of this being that of heavy vehicles. This issue has been brought to my attention by many of my ratepayers some of which are school bus drivers, business owners, farmers, tourist operators and emergency services.

In our small community we unfortunately have a very low rate payer base and could not possibly afford the cost of such expectations. The upgrade of this road would also bring with it employment opportunities and some revenue for the local business sector. This road is a State Government road and given the current times with the likes of Covid 19 and the encouragement of government to promote tourists in keeping their travel experiences within our states and country I am asking for your consideration in this matter.

Given the modern day travel experiences within this region this narrow winding road is insufficient to support the usages. This route is on the Canecutter way and a large number of tourists utilize this road with approximately 100 000 vistors flocking through the gates of Paronella Park.

I am writing to you with strong support for the much need upgrade of the Silkwood/Japoon Road. This road forms part of a tourist route and is currently in very poor condition. This roadway supports the home of the world famous Paronella Park and is used by school buses, heavy vechiles, heavy farm machinery, rv's and caravaners frequently.

Problems our Paramedics face:

Copy to Cr. Teresa Millwood

The Silkwood Local Ambulance Committee exists to support our paramedics in toeir vital work within our community and, as such, we write requesting that the State Government provide funding to upgrade the Silkwood/Japoon Road.

Mr. Shane Knuth MP Member for Hill Queensland Parliament.

For the safety of all who live and work in the area, we urge the Government to provide a grant to upgrade this dangerous and often-used road.

Our Ambulances drive directly on to this road as they leave our centre and the condition of the road contributes to critical time tosses when they are called to emergency cases. Patients with suspected spinal injuries must be driven very slowly over this road because of its condition, it is very bumpy and very narrow. The bridge over the Liverpool Creek is subject to frequent flooding, forcing ambulances to divert to higher roads, adding 15 minutes to the Paramedics' respcmse time. There are many farms in the area, and farm accidents happen fairly often.

• The read in non-viable to many vehicles.• Many tourists hauling mobile homes use the road to visit tourist attractions, including Paronella Park, the

winner of many Tourism Awards. Widening the road and better signage would help them.• There are numerous near-misses because of the narrowness of the road.

Currently, the Silkwood-Japoon Road is in extremely poor condition. The edges of it are being pulled away with constant use and the surface of the road is generally rough and uneven. There are sections that narrow down to one lane and winding parts that make travelling along it an unsafe experience. Not at all what a tourist would find enjoyable, particularly meeting a large transport vehicle!

This road receives an incredible amount of traffic, not only from the many tourists that travel on it with their caravans and RVs to visit our famous Paronella Park, but also from a rural aspect This rural area has many banana packing sheds that require their fruit to be collected daily. This involves large transport refrigerated vehicles travelling along this road.

Mr Shane Knuth, MP Email: hiH@parliament,qld.qov.au

The Cassowary Coast region is a wonderful place to live with incredible natural assets for all to experience, however the Silkwood-Japoon Road is a poor reflection for anyone utilising this unsafe route.

As the Principal of St. John’s School, Silkwood, I would like to declare my support towards the upgrading of road from Silkwood to Innisfail via the Silkwood-Japoon Road. Our school is situated in Harold Street, Silkwood which turns onto the Silkwood-Japoon Road. Many of our school families reside along this road and travel on it most days, either to and from school, or to access the Innisfail Business Centre.

Thank you for your consideration.

I am writing in regards to the main road into Silkwood. This is a busy road leading to many little businesses around Silkwood. It is a dangerous road and in desperate need of attention.

Hill Electorate Office

Dear Mr Knuth,

With thanks for your consideration,

1

The 2019 traffic census data indicates an annual average daily traffic rate of 1319 for Silkwood Japoon Rd (100m west of Bruce Highway) with 12.71 % of these as heavy vehicles.

With Silkwood well positioned on the Canecutter Way tourist route, a high number of RVs and campers traverse the road through to Paronella Park through the tourist season. In regular years, Paronella Park takes more than 100,000 visitors through their gates. Along with the upgraded road between Silkwood and Mena Creek, RV parking & an ablution block is required in Silkwood to allow tourists to stop, rest and shop.

I am in strong support of an upgrade of roads between Silkwood and Mena Creek - Silkwood Japoon & Innisfail Japoon Rds. At present, the single lane carriageway is in poor condition, narrow, winding and insufficient for the modern day travel experience having regard to its useage.

The Feast of the Three Saints Festival attracts many visitors to this region’s ' local attractions. The upgrade to the road would be beneficial to the safety of visitors during their stay in this area.

As the President of the Three Saints Committee, Silkwood, I am In strong support of an upgrade of roads between Silkwood and Mena Creek - SJlkwood Japoon and Innisfail Japoon Roads. At present, the single lane carriageway is in poor condition, narrow, winding and Insuffident for the modem day travel experience having regard to its usage.
