    HTCSI TABLOID

    MARCH 2011 Issue No. 04

I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrec-

tion and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to

attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I

have already obtained all this, or have already been

made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for

which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Greetings to you in the matchless name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Church historians say that church was founded in AD 31. Today, there arethousands of churches all claiming to follow Christ yet divided by different

teachings, traditions, customs and beliefs. Could all be right? Which one didJesus build? What is central to Christianity is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. NoChristian or no church can be a true follower of Christ unless they truly know Him.A convert to Christianity, Paul says I press on to take hold of that for whichChrist Jesus took hold of me. Phil 3:12. The purpose of Pauls life as aChristian was to firstly to know Christ, secondly, to share in the fellowship ofChrists suffering and thirdly to attain resurrection from the dead. It was for thisreason that Christ took hold of him, he says.Message Bible translates Phil3:10, I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could

know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partnerin his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself.

First of all, what does "knowing Christ" mean? The Bible, time and again, OldTestament and New Testament, portrays the right relationship between man andGod as personal. In the Old Testament, for example, the Israelites' are alwaysseen in relationship to a living God; they are not simply followers of a legal codeor believers in a Mosaic philosophy. Consider, for example, Jeremiah 9:23,24: 23This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdomor the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of hisriches, 24 but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands

and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice andrighteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD.

Knowing God is more important than wisdom, or strength, or riches. Think aboutthe people who are most admired in this world. They are admired for these threequalities, aren't they? We tend to admire those who are bright, intelligent, andknowledgeable; or those who are physically gifted in strength, talent, or beauty;or those who have amassed great wealth. Todays Christian world if you can bea good singer or a preacher or a healer etc that is what we all long for. Just forgaining admiration and appreciation from others. But the Lord says through

Jeremiah that none of those are of great importance. What matters morethan anything else is understanding and knowing the Lord, Yahweh.

And this prominence of knowing God carries over into the gospels. Jesus himself,on the night prior to his death, prays for his followers, saying: Now this iseternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3) Eternal life is what? Knowing God, knowingJesus! Without knowing him, there is no true life.

So do you know this Jesus? Has he been working in your heart? Do you know thepower of the resurrection in your life? Or have you allowed Satan to continue tocontrol you? If we know Him, then we partner in His suffering, and go all the waywith him to death itself. Like Paul let us count all that we have as rubbish andhumble ourselves at the Cross of Christ to know Him better. What better daysthan the Holy week to fall on your knees and acknowledge Him

as your Savior! Like Mary, and the disciples did on the

resurrection day or apostle Paul at the gate of Damascus,

and press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus

took hold of us. God bless you
